So Cal
My little tomato got a new hat today from IB Tanked. I've never used carto tanks before, so this is all new to me! The order was a little messed up - I asked for one colored and one clear, and even emailed them to confirm, but never heard back. So now I have 2 colored tanks the same. Which makes it fairly hard to fill, because it's hard to see! Also, I only ordered one set of caps, but I have 4 extra O rings for the second tank - all in the same size. Is that right? I filled according to the sheet they sent, and it vapes ok - but boy this thing is NOISY - crackle, crackle. Could never stealth vape with this one - sounds like a bowl of Rice Krispies! I think I made a mistake ordering four cartos at 3.0 - at 4.1 I'm not getting nearly the flavor I expected (which I get from clearos). Turning it up higher seems to make the flavor much harsher and hotter (which I don't like) - am I doing something wrong?:

I haven't ordered from IBTanked, so no idea of what cartos they sell. The tank should make no difference to the performance of the cartos tho. The most highly regarded cartos on this board is Ikenvapes, tho recently, some people have had a few problems with theirs: Products

The fact that people even recommend carto brands seems to me that it may be important.

My cartos came from ValleyVapes... who is no longer in business. But they are just basic bogo cartos, and work fine (I have had a couple that failed however, but I'm not sure that it's the carto, or my improper filling, as that was when I first started using Cartos).

As for snap crackle pop sounds... my cartos always did that at the beginning, then after about a tank or so, they settle into a light hissing sound, that's a bit like a kettle boiling, kind of hard to describe, but I don't find the sound unpleasant.

ALL my atomizers make some noise, some more than others. Each one is different. I only have 1 unit that makes no noise, and that's the Steam Turbine... I mention this because it's so ironic... the name would make you think it would be the noisiest, and it's the only atomizer I have that is dead silent:).

But to answer your question, my cartos have always made noise, some more some less, and you get used to it... it's been so long since I've had any clearos that I completely forgot whether they made noise or not!

Finding a carto you like makes all the difference. The tank is just the juice feeding element to it all. When I got my Ibtanked I absolutely hated my smok cartos an high ohms of 3.0 is just too high for me. I have ikenvape carto's and they are better and many poeple like them, along with boge.

Of the 3 I like the ikenvape ones best, I have punched and slotted ones. Not a big fan of the slotted. The punched ones are nice though. They do tend to be loud, definitely not for stealth vaping. I would try and go lower on the ohms if you want a cooler vape as you can lower the power down. At 3 ohms I dont really feel the nice flavor until I get around 3.8-4.2 volts. I don't mind the warmer vape, I actually prefer it.

I wouldn't give up on the tank just yet. Experiment with some carto's they are all different, some are packed super tight with the filler material some not so much. Its all based on taste and preference. Just like going from the smok cartos that came with my tank to the ikenvape carto the difference is on different ends of the spectrum... :) Hope I have helped, if not, well I tried. ;)

I posted the same thing yesterday. I have been looking at the Ikenvape cartos but never having used cartos before it's a bit confusing! There are so many to choose from and many are out of stock which are probably the ones I would prefer. I know I want the 35mm 40mm total and LR but what is all the rest? I am clueless here!

I was going to order the fusion mega 3.0 to fit my XL tank. But they're out of stock in both 2 and 3 ohms. Guess I'll have to find something else.

I get more crackling from the Smok cartos that IBTanked sells than the Ikenvape cartos. To me, they taste the same but the Ikenvape cartos last way longer. I get about two tanks out of the Smok cartos and about 4 tanks out of the Ikenvape cartos. Doesn't matter if they have holes or slotted. The juice I use is dark and sweet so YMMV.

Well, not only is it really noisy (so much so that I couldn't use it while I was watching a movie with my daughter - imagine someone making weird sucking/crackling noises all the way through a movie LOL) but it has a slightly strange taste. I have Tribeca in it, which I know well, and it seems to have lost its sweetness. I took out the carto and reprimed and refilled. It doesn't taste burned -just not sweet at all and rather harsh. It's 3.0ohm, and I'm running it between 4.2 and 5. It did seem to behave better at 5 but that taste is funky. Is it the carto or a case of poor priming? The Thingy didn't seem to work at all for the first priming, so for the second one I used Ocelots condom method.

Maybe the problem is that it's a 3.0?? I've never used any heads higher than a 2.0 anything.

I've always read that the LOWER the ohms, the stronger the flavor, the less volt you need to vape it on, and so the longer your battery lasts.

The downside to lower ohms is that they burn out faster, higher ohms last longer.

My personal extrapolation from the above statements is that if you are buying refills, higher ohm saves you overall money (carto/heads), and if you are RBAing, you want to go lower ohms (battery life, battery recharge wear).

I'm no authority on this, so maybe the more experienced can chime in with explanations or enlightenment?

"LR coils will heat faster and hotter than a higher resistance coil, and will pull more current (amps) from the battery to do so. The resulting vape experience will be a warmer vape.

The opposite is also true. Higher resistance coils will take longer to heat and be less hot, requiring less current from the battery to do so. The resulting vape experience will be a cooler vape."

I think that was why I ordered the higher ohm coils when was deciding. Maybe the taste is less smooth in cartos than clearos? Of course, my clearos ran around 2.2-2.4

ProVape recommends 3.0Ω for the ProVari, but you can use whatever you like. 7 watts is 7 watts no matter how you get there (except for the amps, but with a carto on a ProVari that's not something of high importance.)

The cartos from IBTanked are Smok(tech) Smok is actually the real name of the brand, Smoketech is the manufacturer, but for the most part people call them Smoketech. I buy mine from IBTanked, since I like flanged cartos and it's hard to find flanged in standard size.

I didn't care for IKV Fusion, but I did like the Platinum. Unfortunately, Platinum doesn't come in flanged. I may get some again, but I don't need any cartos right now. I also don't like that IKV has inconsistent inventory. I don't like having to watch the site buy something when I don't need it, since it might not be in stock when I do need it.

I like happy crackles :) But we all know I'm weird.

I am such an idiot....this morning I was so disgusted with both the Tribeca and the noise of my tank that I decided to switch to Absolute Pin which I know for sure has no weird top notes. I very carefully primed a new carto using the slow drip drip method. Waited. Filled up a tank - and BLISS............I guess the previous effort was entirely user error (as you all knew LOL). I can tell you that for some reason using the twiddle your thingy I didn't get it primed properly. Also because the tank is painted you can't see what's going on, so for me this method is much more reliable. And the awful noise and weird flavor is gone - now it's just a pleasant hiss:vapor::facepalm::)

I don't know anything about batteries, volts, ohms, so I just look for info that explains in terms of what we're doing...

Could someone explain how faster heating coils would draw more battery power? That actually makes more sense than what I previously thought (how do you have better flavor without using more power?)... but doesn't explain the low vapor. This whole electricity connection gives me a headache:)!! LOL!

Do a bunch of dry sucking too, while plugging the hole at the bottom so it's not getting air, but getting the juice into the side hole instead:).
