You guys rock. I'm an interested voyeur to all your musings and ideas. Its great seeing such collaboration coming from so many people. Then all the ideas keep condensing downward to what I see as a workable modification. Hoping the voltage drop is workable and a plug and play type module with a cheap replaceable fuse works. And I learned another new word..Kerf.

My apologies Chris, I really didnt mean to come off that harsh. No hard feelings :)

It seems like, as with most things, there are some give-and-takes with what our individual needs are. One particular type of protection (or lack thereof) isn't better than others, different set-ups cater to different needs. pdibs's mod with the shim yeilds the best performance gains with the least amount of work, but there is a lack of protection with it engaged but it works great for people like us who have a deep understanding of what were doing. Using a special order nano fuse yeilds less performance than the shim but more than a common off-the-shelf fuse, will require a more custom recepticle but will be purpose built and "bullet proof". Using a blade fuse doesn't yeild as good of results as a special order, but has better performance than a resettable, but the fuses are cheap and easy to get. A resettable fuse has the least permormance but is still much better than the spring and far superior protection, this would be a great option for the general public once a rock solid recepticle is designed.

I think this has been mentioned earlier in the thread but if you are not a sub-ohmer and vape under 6A This is a great option. With the vape safe 2 you could replace the spring with a high performance / no protection spring, obviously the only limitation is the 6A which should be good down to .8ohm.

Hope you don't mind if I hijack for a second to show off some of my pic's...

I went to my local pep boys and bought those Blade Fuse Tap. Took one of my spare springs and cut the spring off. Put one of the taps under the spring plate, the other over the fuse and bent what was sticking off over, and voila. perfect fit.

Results:
3.93V on a ~1.1 ohm coil. 0.26V drop, no other modifications.

That's WAY easier than mine! Please post yours in the new thread I started, SeaNap! I didn't want people to have to sort through all my previous clutter to get to our results. BTW: is that a mini fuse? or a "regular size"?

OK, I gotta go build a 1Ω coil and test . . .. . I can't wait!

ADDIT: here's the results for the automotive mini fuse (10A) on a 1Ωcoil . .. . . . . .. V-drop = 0.13V !
