They are not thinking about the broader view of what they are doing here. They want these regulations to help people not be harmed by things, yet they themselves are creating more harm than good here besides the obvious. I'm going to bet that within the first six months of this going into effect, we'll see a black market sprout up. That one is actually pretty obvious. I also think we'll see a surge of people who don't know what they are doing attempt to build mods and stuff on their own and end up injured in the process. We'll hear about people trying to transform flashlights into a tube mod and get their face burned off. I'm very worried about where this is going to go. I know a lot of people are going to start breaking laws that would never have done so before. Why? Because I know that the majority of us would rather go illegal than pay a dime to big tobacco for anything ever again. I don't understand how we can live in a world that actually helps prop up a business that makes it's living knowingly killing people over a lifesaving alternative that provides jobs and innovates with an eye towards safety for it's users. Sorry for ranting and all, but that's just the frustration coming through. I know it's probably too soon to yell fire yet, but I just can't believe people can be so stupid.

Whoa! Man.
I really went on a rampage there.
I will sum it up, i hope nobody had time to read that thing.
My prediction is this.
This FDA thing will pass, with little to no modifications. Any positive modifications will be temporary and will amount to nothing. Small e cig businesses will fall.
Big Tobacco will market there e cigs and juice. They will fail! The juice will be horrible, devices utter crap! And expensive as hell.
Big Pharma will market e cigs and juice. These will be good.......enough...just good enough to "attract" new/ex smokers, and maybe some "old" vapers. Market share will increase, slowly but positively "enough" to warrant a reduced price and more flavours.
Big Tobacco will exit the market rather quickly. Big Pharma market share will spike.
Big Pharma holds the monopoly on ecig market. Start farming out e liquid to small manufacturers. Devices as well.
Nicotine consumption increases dramatically.
Big Tobacco cigarette sales reach an historic low.....Big Tobacco PROFIT reports reach HISTORIC highs......?
Nicotine in our juice TODAY is produced predominately from Tobacco, who owns all the tobacco? well Big Tobacco.
WIN
Yes i am Canadian. ANYTHING the FDA passes on e cigs, will be followed up rather quickly by our equivalent Health Canada. So this topic effects me just the same.

... We'll hear about people trying to transform flashlights into a tube mod and get their face burned off. ...

The first ever tube mods were from flashlights and laser pointers...:) It's where tube mods came from, and we didn't burn our faces off, it can be done safely. The choke point is the nicotine liquid, no nic and we're back to quit or die.

I know it's probably too soon to yell fire yet, but I just can't believe people can be so stupid.

Not to soon, (FIRE FIRE FIRE), and yes, they are really that stupid....

I realize you took harm potential in a different direction. But I see bans having the effect (just based on their existence) to have people want to try it because government has now forbidden it. IMO, that is the very real reality of 'gateway' on youth initiation items. You learn they lied about harms of x, then you are willing to try a, b and c (PDQ). Especially if you have peers that are using them and living to tell about. With certainty if you have peers that are using it and otherwise doing well in life (i.e. popular, getting good grades, able to work hard, stay active).

If we lived in a completely puritanical society, a ban might, theoretically work. But if that puritanical part is only a small segment of the population, then a ban just becomes quick realization among the wise/intelligent people that this is yet another thing that (false) authority is being entirely deceptive about and thus must be overcome. For the less wise, but plausibly very intelligent, the quickest way to overcome that is to engage in the things they have banned. Gives a sense of empowerment to the individual and is easily seen by peers as initiation ritual that is fun and really (really really) no big deal.

Just look at how many us smoked under 18. Or did other things before 18.

In reality, where hypocrisy abounds, a ban (to minors) has the exact opposite effect of the intention for the ban. If adults sense it is anything similar to them occurring, via regulation, then government just guaranteed youth of another generation will be lost to precisely what they thought the prohibitive regulations would overcome.

IOW, FDA is for sure part of why youth will be seeking to obtain vape products now that a ban will be nationally popularized.
