Actually, all of the above. Cigarette lookalikes just do not store a lot of energy because of the size of the battery in comparison to mods which use much larger batteries. The next step up would be an ego style. For a comparison: mini~180 mAh, ego ~1200, 18650 ~3000. The numbers are meant to show approximations, but you can see a 18650 mod will store around 17x the energy of a mini lookalike. There is also a size penalty for the extra performance. All ecigs use a LI battery in one form or another, and these do not have an infinite number of recharge cycles. With the integrated (circuitry+battery) mini and ego you have to toss the whole thing when the battery dies; on a mod, you just toss the battery. Actually, I should have said dispose of properly-never into your household garbage. Variable voltage is not for everyone. A good intermediate next step would be something like an ego Twist which will enable you to experiment with the variable voltage without investing in a big vv mod. They do not cost much more than a regular ego. You can dial up the voltage to see if you like the higher voltages. Take your time, read the guide to vaping on ECF, and see if you can find a friendly Brick and Mortar shop nearby. Avoid the mall kiosks since they are generally making you pay dearly for the marketing. Good luck!

Hi all,

what are the advantages of having a variable voltage mod as compared to a simple push button and vape pv? Better taste? more vapor? Lasts longer (durability)?

I see many different types of VV being discussed on the forums and Im seriously quite confused over the ohms, voltages and what not.

On the 2nd part of your qn, ohms and volts r the 2 variables that you can tweak in your quest to find the perfect vape.

Ohms indicate the resistance of your atomizer. Basically how fast it heats up and how much juice it burns. Lower ohms (1.0 to 2.2) provide less resistance to the electricity flow, and thus the atty heats up quicker and generally consumes more juice. Ppl like rebuildable atomizers (RBAs) as they can configure their atties to a specific ohm setting, be it high or low.

Volts refer to the amount of power your battery outputs (Lol this is the best I could come up with). Most stock mods output 3.2V (ego included, except ego vv twist of course). Intermediate/advanced mods, or anything that takes separate batts, can output anywhere from 3.7v to 8v, depending on your battery configuration.

Finally, and most importantly, Watts is a function of voltage and ohms, or more specifically, (voltage squared)/ohms. Eg. If you are using your ego twist at 4v on a standard atomizer of 3 ohms, your wattage is 4x4/3, which equals 5.3w. Generally, you should shoot for a wattage range of 7 to 10.

And that's where RBAs and mods come in. Having full control over your volts and ohms goes a long way in helping you achieve that sweet spot. But with all that tinkering comes risk, so use yer head and vape safe!

to keep it simple,

with a variable voltage mod you get to control the voltage you vape at, no matter the resistance of the atomizer, cartomizer, clearomizer attached to it. basically what you want is to find a sweet spot in the power of the vape.

with a "simple push button pv", you have a fixed voltage and the power of the vape would depend on resistance of the atty you attach to it.

some people prefer to vape at higher voltages to get warmer vapour and analog-like feel from the vapour.

watch this video if u want a more detailed explanation in vaping power.
