Ok mates, after 5 days of vaping with a 901 I've upped my game a notch. I was at work one night watching a youtube vid of GrimmGreen reviewing the ego twist and when he held up one that had a 3.5 ml dct it was love at first sight.

So two days ago I got me a 650mah ego twist, small thread cover (more for looks I suppose), smoktech 3.5ml skinny tank and I'm running a smoktech dual coil 1.5 ohm cartomizer. I filled up the carto, mainly dripping and rotating until saturated, filled up the tank /w 100% VG and off I go... been vaping out the yinyang, seems to work fine but what do I know... I'm a noob at this, right?

All this brings me to my question. This morning I pulled off the drip tip and inspected the top of the filler stuff in the carto and it just doesn't look wet or saturated. Twisted up a paper towel and stuck it down the edge to see if it came out damp and it didn't. So I ended up adding maybe 6 drops to get that wet look again.

So is that normal? I thought the whole idea of the tank setup was to wick the juice up from the bottom of the carto so you don't have to add from the top. I notice the smoktech carto only has 1 hole punched down near the bottom so maybe the thick VG is difficult to wick? Maybe I should punch a second hole? The thing is I seem to be getting plenty of vape. Anyway I guess I'm going to learn to punch regardless since I ordered me some Boge single coil 2.0 ohm cartos but I'd like to hear some input from the vaping veterans so to speak.

Btw, seven days without an analog... after 37 years I stopped smoking on Friday the 13th, how lucky is that. ;)

Some people have had good success with punching an extra hole and many vendors are selling 3-hole prepunched dual coil cartos for the tanks. Be careful what you wish for, though, flooding issues may arise with the extra holes. If you are getting a good vape, I'd say you are fine. Just don't keep vaping if the flavor decreases or you risk burning the carto.

Glad to hear you are having great success!

Congrats on the twist. When I was using carto/ tank with 60/ 40 PG/ VG I had one hole measuring 2.5 mm wide- punched with nail and hammer. You could always 1/4" saddle valve which is good for about 50 holes.
The carto should always look "slushy/ grey". Also occasionally negative pressure builds up in the tank and must be opened/ equalized- dry hits and/ or air bubbles in the carto hole will happen. What PG/ VG ratio are you Vaping?

Ok, thanks mates. Yes definitely getting good vape. I've almost made two converts to vaping at work after they saw me hitting the twist. I'm running 100% Vg and still getting good TH compared to the 901. The whole reason I switched to vaping was because the analogs were keeping my throat chronically sore and I could barely inhale the smoke any longer. The VG seems ok for me at this point and I notice my sore throat has almost comletely vanished after a week of vaping and no cigs.

You guys think the single coil 2.0 ohm would be a better match for the twist? I've been playing with that ohm calculator alot lately.

Ohm's Law Calculator

Seems like it would give me a better range and use less current than the dual coil 1.5

I've been using tanks now for most of my vaping life, and I've never popped the drip tip off and seen a carto look as wet as when I first filled it. Are you getting any nasty taste? Are you getting any dry hits? If not, you're good to go. Are you seeing little bubbles come up out of the hole in the carto? You should. If not, then take some 'drags' without hitting your heat button. This should 'suck' some juice into the carto and you should see the bubbles then. If you continually have to do this, then your juice is probably too thick. If that's the case, then you need to either thin down your juice or punch another hole in the carto. Hope this helps!

A single coil ANYTHING is better than a dual coil IMHO.

100% VG is the problem. You can either:
Up the PG side of the juice ratio
Add distilled water
Add extra holes in the carto
A's for lack of of flavor, A's stated, PG enhances flavor and VG mutes flavor- either add PG or order your juice with extra flavor or double flavor.
A's for cartos definitely use single coil. Used a carto with tank for about 6+ months without issue. Here's an easy to read chart for best resistance to be used at certain voltage:

Good Luck.

Take some primer puffs before you start vaping. It's become second nature for me now, but when I finally got carto tanks working for me I would pop off the drip tip every few vapes and check the top of the filler. If it was dry I'd do 5-10 good hard pulls then check again. That would usually soak the top of the filler. I burned up a lot of cartos before I started doing it, and have been on the same carto for 3 weeks since I began the primer / dry pulls.

PS. Your post is making me consider the Twist + Slim DCT. Looks like a sweet setup, and the size is great compared to my LT.

Hi all...please help clear my confusion.....I keep hearing about the DCTs and dual coil cartomisers..( i have yet to use either)..now so far I have gathered the J tanks are the DCTs, is this correct?....Secondly, can we fit the single coil boge cartos that we use in the so called "DUAL COIL TANKS" ? cause the name of the tank suggests otherwise.

Thanks :)

I reread your post and this could be the problem. First fill of a carto is VERY IMPORTANT whether you're using it in a tank or standalone If not first filled properly dry hits will happen and the longevity of the carto will be comprised. On my IPhone so google YouTube "PBusardo filling Boges". Realizing you prolly have a flange on the batt end of your carto push the mouth end of carto down into condom of juice. Key and VERY IMPORTANT is to push carto down very slowly- even more so A's your juice is 100% VG. Credit to PBusardo A's this vid has helped countless Vapers learn the proper way to fill a carto.
Good Luck.

Regular size tanks use regular sized single coil cartomizers. If the tank is longer than a regular than it requires a longer cartomizer. There are alot of tanks that require the longer carto, not just the J tank. If you like the longer/larger tank, an XL single coil carto will fit in those tanks.

Thanks Kay... I like the smaller slimmer tanks that would go flush with the ego's diameter, so prolly the 3.5ml tanks...are there any other options in this category?..also like the smaller vivi nova metal tanks, but HC has yet to stock them( that's the only place i get my stuffs from)..will try my hands on the vision clearomisers soon..

Oh!!! I have a n00b tank question that might apply here.

If using a non-flanged carto...if the tank just spins on the carto...how do you remove it?

I always used XL non flanged cartos on my tanks cuz they always stuck out about 1/4" beyond the tank and allowed me to tighten/ loosen off PV easily. You'll have to place the tank/ PV sideways/ horizontal and slide the tank off the carto- very messy.

Edit: non flanged cartos that fit flush with the tank lengthwise may look pretty but are not practical.

Sometimes you can use the drip tip to turn the carto. Remember not to screw them onto the PV too tightly to begin with.

Thanks for the vid Vapoor. This carto came condomless since it was already in the tank but I will try that method when my boges arrive. Also, I found a couple vids where folks were using that saddle valve to punch the cartos... cool beans. I'm gonna be good-to-go.

Thank you all for the tips and advice.
