Well it looks to me like there is a hole in the center there; it also looks kind of white, like if its plastic... but it has to be metal to make electrical contact...
Nope, no hole in the center, and it's all metal.

And all the airflow comes from these holes; there are three of them. The knurled ring screws down to expose the holes and up to cover them.

The finish on it is actually pretty good. The pics above were taken in extremely harsh lighting through a poor-man's macro lens and enhance every flaw tremendously.

Thanks so much for the pics:

Just to confirm 1 thing: the typical 510 clearomiser has holes in the 510 thread at the bottom; 3 holes I believe (the protanks have 3 holes).

If this base has airholes up there by the ring, then I would imagine there are no holes down on the 510 threads where the clearomizer screws onto the battery? I see also from your picture, no hole in the center and no 'slot' for air to go up to the 3 holes, so I imagine this 510 threaded base does not have or need the 3 holes that would normally be there.

No, the height from the base to the silicone inverted-cup gasket is different. I think the chimney diameter is larger too.

If the height from the base to the silicone inverted-cup is more, then there's room to pad with more silicone cups.
If the height from the base to the silicone inverted-cup is less, then the coils cannot fit.

I just ordered one off of ebay with red glass. Can't wait to try it out! Is everyone else's tanks still working well? No leaks, dry hits, screwing up of other sorts?

My only issue is juice, be prepared to kill some juice! No leaks, dry hits, anything. 4.4v with a menthol is a killer chest hit if your into that kind of thing.

I'm on day 4 with it. It's not my primary (been playing with a Squape for that) but my backup. I'd say I use it 30-40% of the time, but I vape a lot. I've also got some pretty thick juice in it, something in the range of 75-80% VG. Anyway, the Aerotank has been flawless. All I've done is refill it. I can't say that for any other full-sized Kanger tank I've had. The only ones that have worked this consistently for me have been the Minis.

Some people claim a picture is worth 1000 words, so here's another one, made using my poor-man's macro lens:

On the left is a single-coil Protank head. On the right is an Aerotank head.

Thanks for the pic; that means we could get the old head to fit on the aerotank with some washers/spacers; but the newer head is too tall to fit in the old tank by itself.

OK, day 5 and this afternoon it really felt like it needed a new head. The draw felt somewhat off, the vapor production fell, and then it started gurgling. This all happened quite quickly. So out came the head and in went the spare. Here's the old one:

Is this the fault of the head? No, I'm prettty sure it's the juice. It's a mix of some sweet tobacco ("RY Fine") from a local shop and a WTA / NET juice from Whole Cig, and I believe it's the former, particularly the sweetner in it that clogs coils. That head is now soaking in water, where it will remain until tomorrow. What happens after that depends on what it looks like then.

Yeah, I suppose I'm gonna try that. I have mild trepidations because the last time I tried to dry-burn a dual coil head (iClear 30S) I popped one of the coils, but I figure I don't have much to lose. I was just practicing on some single-coil PT heads and it seems to have gone fine, but none of them had quite as much crud as that one.
