I don't bother cleaning atties anymore. They should be considered consumables and used until they die. Pop on a new one and go. When they start to get weak you check the resistance and if it is climbing up then you hit it with more voltage and burn off any deposits that may have built up on the coil and good to go again (usually for a few days and then they go.)

I know people clean their atties with success but I just don't mess with it any more. The last time I did that was with steam and I ruined about 10 of them. They all got weird tasting for a while and I was not a happy vaper. So nowadays i simply put one in my AFS and use it until it dies. I have one of the HV 901s on my secondary device and that one has been kicking for a long time (3 weeks or better).

vapnaway, you say "check the resistance", how? What is the first sign an atti is going bad, less vapor output? A bad taste? So 3 weeks is considered a decent life for an atti, yes? I don't have a AFS just yet, but need to learn this real user stuff, got two days hopefully before GGTS delivery, to watch some videos and read some other "how to" threads here and wherever. THANKS!

Actually, all my 3 AFS 901s have gone to atty heaven (and I only used them at 3.7v on AFS).

I have one non AFS 901 which I purchased at the same time. I've washed it in Vodka twice and tried blowing steam through it from a capuccino machine steam wand. I still has the metallic taste, so the rusting argument makes sense.

http://www.e-cigarette-forum.com/forum/atomizer-mods/52074-check-out-steam-cleaner-attys.html

PLUS we have visual evidence from Vap'n.

One thing that hasn't been mentioned over rusing, perhaps because it's up there where angels fear to tread, is whether AFS is likely to expose the atty to more moisture producing rust, because the atty is surrounded by all that liquid.

I dont think that atty will rust by this Vaug. I dont have see any rust externally the atty. I think that the atty externally has another treatment

You take your multimeter and check the ohms reading across the coil by touching the center pole and the threads of the battery connection. Check them when you first put them into use and get your baseline (They vary about ± .2 Ω) When they begin to go bad you will notice the resistance climbing a bit and the vapor trailing off. When I see this I put more voltage (7.4v for a few puffs until resistance drops again) to them for a little more use. Sometimes they actually come back to life for a few days. This is a good sign that they are about to pop. And yes three weeks is a good life for me as a really heavy vaper. Normal life is around two days to two weeks. I do have some that are months old but they are not in daily use.

vapnaway,
Just ordered a AFS with my 2 GGTS ...that are coming from Rob....you use the AFS right? what would you say is the most important few things to remember to do while using it? Just trying to prepare myself for when I try it...

Use the AFS as your dripping machine. Treat it as a dripping helper. Hole in juice for a few puffs, up until you get brunt taste, repeat. Just as you do when you drip. It works best when you have about 2/3 full juice because you can put hole up and OUT of juice. When its full to top you are constantly getting juice flow even when you turn the hole up. Juice consitancy also plays a role. When I get flooding problems I add a LITTLE aquouse glycerine to my mix. You might have to adjust your puff strength sometimes to get juice flow. You develope a rythm to this thing and once mastered you will never want to drip again. I dip on my secondary device and it is such a PITA now. Make sure you have a few spare AFS atties on hand at all times.

Hope I have helped you guys out.....

Thanks, I'm keeping all these notes on my computer. Another day or two and I should be in experiment mode, vaping what's left of my brain cells.

The throat hit isn't as high as when I use at 510 without the AFS.

I vape at 3.7v. Would increasing voltage help?

With a 901 HV attie of course you will get an increase TH for sure :D

You will see that you have to decrease the mg (of nicotine) of juice for take the same TH as with a normal 901 attie !!!
