Hey Dan,
I once played around with an old kitchen exhaust fan and bent the blades to different pitches until I achieved the optimum air flow.
So..... with this said, would it be worth it for you to construct tin blades and bend them until you find the best air flow and later design the blades to match the results?

Off Topic ....

For those Micro RC fanatics out there I just created a 15mm Ducted Fan unit for micro RC planes :)

15mm Duct by scubabatdan on Shapeways
15mm Duct Fan 10 blade by scubabatdan on Shapeways

Was looking at the blades of different types of motors and always loved micro RC, so I created and ordered a set to see if my .24" dia 16,000 rpm 3vd motor will drive a micro plane using this.

:)

Dan didn't you hear? Ducted fans went out a few years ago. lol

Blade looks good for a ducted.

Ah well, I have already ordered the fan and got the motor in today! YAY, will see how it goes. Trial and error :)
But a tin blade woul be easy to construct and then modify the CAD to match. Cool idea.

Dan you amaze me with what you come up with :) I was thinking ( Dangerous ) but would there be a way to actually make this a part of that stardust carto with out the use of the adapter , like have the fan in the bottom of the carto and part of it ? now that would be one bad azz carto ;) I can just see it now, the scubatdan air propeller carto or Atty :)

Thanks, LOL the problem is the length of the motor and fan combined. The current 5/8" motor and fan combo will be about the length of a carto.

New Motor:

Current draw on this motor is about 110ma, variable RPM depending on voltage.

Yep that is the same one I am using currently from radio shack. It was a vibration motor the I removed the weight from.

Dan, please let me know how the micro rc plane project goes, even though it isnt vape related, I'd like to know where you post about it. That pic before was from an article about 3D printing parts for a 'real' plane, though they cnc'd stuff too.

Will do!

Pretty wild the things you come up with. I got two things to throw at you that came to mind. It might get your wheels turning in a different direction.
First I noticed you had this on a Provari. I got to thinking about the extension caps, having the fan in there and the center post on connector drilled out to allow airflow through the whole mod to atty/carto. Just thought it's give you a little more space to work and get the fan noise further from face.

Second thing, I don't really think you can use, but it might spark an idea. I used to mod computers about ten years ago and they came out with these shaftless fans. The windings and magnets are in the housing and blade ring. They are much more efficient because you don't have the big dead space in the center of blade. I don't know what's became of the technology, they might have micro versions of them now. I figured you'd find them interesting even if you can't use them for this. Here are a couple old pics I have of one:

Thanks everyone for the ideas :)

I had a plan form this morning when I got notice that my 15mm x 15mm x 4mm fan shipped... Wanna see?

I know, well duh!

Rather than rip the fan out of it, I am onto proto #3, havent got proto #2 assembled yet :)

Ok, here is the fan I ordered:

That will go in what I made tonight:

I left 4mm of space on the inside between the bottom of the top cap and the botttom lower half.
More to follow... waiting on the fan to show up.

This may have more air volume than fan type. Definitely more static pressure. looks like 1 l/min. I suppose that is litre.

This is interesting - piezoelectric air pump. Thanks for the link perlionsmitnick
