I keep reading all these threads about people getting negative remarks from family and friends about them vaping.

I had been a PAD smoker since i was 17, am now 31. Everyone in my family, including my ex smoker father, Osteopathic OB/GYN sister, and ultra anti smoking aunt, have all had nothing but praise for me.

All ages, sister is 32, Dad is 59, Aunt is 62. I didnt need to explain anything to any of them, they all were just happy to see me getting away from cigarettes. My sister is very non judgmental at first, she will agree, or just nod when first confronted with something, then later look it up, so im sure she did that, and found the ingredients and product to be safe.

All my friends, and family have had nothing but good things to say, and have commented on the vapor, do it in my house, car, blow it in my face, it doesnt smell like smoke, its not smoke, its not harming anyone, so go right ahead.

I know there are alot of skeptics out there, but that seems to be all i read on here.

Some people on ECF seem to be more apt to start threads about the negative and ignore the positive. I guess that is also human nature, unfortunately. It's probably why there are so many reality shows that basically just show the negative side of people. I never watch those shows and find them worthless with no redeeming value. I would rather see or read about an uplifting story anyday.

I think some people come here to vent and I think that is A-ok for them to do. I've always thought of ECF as a kind of support group and a place we can go when unsupportive jerks in our lives decide to crap all over us. Personally I have had some great support from my friends and family, but my Mother in law still gives me the "when are you gonna quit that thing" look when she sees me vaping. I usually just duck out of the room if I feel the need when she is around. Funny enough that I seem to need more nic whenever she is around

Have to be honest, while most people were supportive at first, the fact that 7 months later I haven't quit is annoying to some people.
"When are you going to give up that thing", "Are you still on that thing", "I hate the way that thing reminds me of cigarettes".
Always 'that thing' as if just saying ecig or vaporizer would either contaminate them or legitimize it.
Oh and the fact that all the extra money I should have saved hasn't materialized is a big issue for my wife, it did for a while but petrol has eaten it all up. I have had to give up the car if I still smoked.

My sister is a big anti-tobacco nazi. She's all for it thinking just like most of us, it can't be any worse than tobacco smoke.

However I just got into a debate with a guy who's convinced it needs to be tested to the nth degree before it should ever see the market. Nothing would change his mind.

I think it depends on what type they are. My sister doesn't like tobacco. This other guy wants a nanny state.

I've never even run into a smoker who cared. In fact when I announced I was trying e-cigs on facebook my 2pad friend encouraged me.

Tell them that many people revert to smoking after many years, they pick it up like they had never quit and to avoid doing that you may never quit vaping.
I've restarted many times like I had never quit.
Even if I go to 0mg and rarely vape the e-cig will be there with some 11mg-18mg just for when that time happens years down the road.

The only negative comments I've received have come from people with little knowledge other than "that one that exploded." Most of the smokers I talk to comment on how they need to get one. My gf hates cig smoke and only knocks my PV when she doesn't like the juice. I also think ecigs need to be tested more, but in all honestly it can't be worse than smoking.

It's 100% safer than smoking. There have been enough studies on cigarette smoke and what is harmful in them to know that since none of those elements are in vapor, it's much, much safer than smoking. And there have been enough studies on vaping to make the same conclusion. More studies are welcome and I agree with that.

I havent had any negative comments personally. I have gotten people that dont understand it really, but they didnt seem to care either way for the most part, generally a "whatever helps you quit smoking" type of response.

I have just read so many things online and here especially of people talking about the people that think its bad, or have gotten an abundance of negative reactions from it.

I work for a smaller IT Consulting firm, two of us are vapers, i got the other one to quit smoking at start vaping. Employees in the office comment about the smells, "whos making [insert smell] in the office", or "wheres your glass ....?" lol.. that word gets filtered i bet. All in all its positive and fun though!

"Wheres your glass [mens reproductive organ]?" ha!

A coworker asked me today, "When are you going to wean yourself off that thing?" at which point I said, "Never, I enjoy it and it is a 99% safer than smoking".

Some people don't understand that just because I used it to quit smoking, doesn't mean I ever intend to quit vaping. Especially those that never smoked. The smokers and former smokers seem to "get it".

This is the only negative thing I hear and my rebuttal is normally something like " Vaping isnt safe because one guy stacked batts and blew his face off?, so you would rather stick to smoking that has killed millions of people?" That normally gets them thinking more rationally.:vapor:

I get the same sort of comments from time to time.

"When you going to quit that stuff?"

"Uh, don't plan to."

"What! Isn't it bad for you?"

"Actually, no. It contains a clear liquid chemical that's in your salad dressing and your son's snowball juice, some cake flavoring, and some nicotine. None of that is actually bad for you. It's the almost 4000 other chemicals in cigarette smoke that are bad for you. This only has 1 of those ... nicotine."

"Oh! Well, I guess it's a good way not to have to give up the habit, huh?"

"Yep, and once I decide to give up the nicotine, I can wean my self down to nothing, vape 0 nic juices, and still enjoy it! "

And I suppose if you were motivated enough to do so, you could make an argument that nicotine might be good for you.
That argument is not at all hard to make if you have the right information at your disposal.
