Am I a hooligan?

So I recently turned 18. I've never been a smoker but I like the social atmosphere of it. That's why I got into vaping. I use 0nic though. Mostly I do it because it's fun. But whenever I go buy juice, I always get dirty looks from people. One woman had the audacity to confront me and tell me to stop. So apparently she is in control of my life or something... But it's a free country! I can do what I want, right? I've already helped to convert about 10 smokers into vapers. So if I don't use nicotine, then I shouldn't vape. But I do. Opinions?

IMHO, it sounds like you have mighty fine head on your shoulders!

Your 'paying-it-forward' and being able to help so many smokers make the switch is very cool!


I do need to ask, for someone at the tender age of only 18... Where in the world did you ever learn the word hooligan?!

If your idea of being a "hooligan" is vaping, you're most certainly NOT a hooligan. In fact, I'd debate whether or not you truly have a grasp on the term.

My wife was jealous of all my flavors and got a 0mg setup as someone who never smoked. She doesn't use it anymore but for a while she was having fun with it. Doesn't appear to have ANY dangerous element to me, so why not

The title of your post reminded me of this time many years ago when my brother and I were on a roadtrip. We had broken down somewhere in Indiana and were staying at a cheap hotel while the car was being fixed. Some young guy slinked up to us and asked us "hey - are you guys hoods"? I was taken aback. Why would we be "hoods"? Do "hoods" self-identify as "hoods"? Anyway . .I digress.

I personally think it's strange for a non-smoker to vape - even 0 nic. I personally can't see why you would want to. But that's just me. As far as I'm concerned adults can do whatever they like . .including vape nicotine if they want even if they never smoked (even though I think it's stupid). Vaping 0 nic is not as bad, of course, but it still seems pointless to me. But hey - cross-stitching seems pointless to me, too, but you don't see anybody trying to stop little old ladies from making ugly "Bless this house" wall-hangers.

You do as you wish. The lady? She can also do as she wishes. You are no 'hooligan'. Had you - as a non-smoker - asked, "Should I vape?", I would say, "No". It is a pain in the .... and if you read around the forum you will see many who are obsessed with the process. It's all they know - all they do - and they all claim it is wonderful. Many stopped smoking thanks to e-cigarettes - now they are as deeply hooked on vaping as any tobacco product - even if they use "Zero Nicotine". It's still costly and I see far too many who can no more afford vaping than the cigarettes they wanted to stop. You'll see one after another proudly exclaim, "PAYDAY! Time to order juice!" Still living payday to payday, never saving a dollar for the future and feeling 'proud' of knowing about every piece of equipment and having more 'juice' than the next guy. Not the greatest accomplishment one might strive for in a lifetime.

Again ........ You do as you wish. The lady? She can also do as she wishes. You are no 'hooligan'. That "social atmosphere" you mentioned? At age 18 - you don't need vaping to be social. Pass by the entire 'game' and you'll find there is an entire world of "social" far beyond vaping. You don't 'need it' at all.

I was a hooligan back in the day, well thats what most olde farts called anyone under 20 who made any noise lol

As a rule, I am not a fan of people who don't smoke starting up vaping. I just think you're better off without any of it. But that's just me.

HST, the OP's point brings in another factor that adds another level to this idea for me. The idea of being a social vaper using 0 nicotine juice is actually much much better than being a social smoker. Even if the vaper decided they DID want to use some nicotine in their juice it would be much better than being a social smoker.

I started out as a social smoker & that's precisely how I became a regular pad smoker for 22 years. it was social at first then just became a part of life. So, imo it's an excellent choice, if you're going to be a social smoker, to be a social vaper instead.

Hi. You are 18 year's old you can do what you want! If your a hooligan I guess I'm a old hooligan! I see no harm in what your doing. That said I would make sure you keep it at a zero nicotine . Because you do NOT want a addiction. I vape a 24mg. Nicotine because I'm completely addicted to nicotine, have been since I was 16 years old. I see no harm in vaping zero nicotine. Just don't go crazy and start trying it with nicotine. Addiction has no age limit, sadly. I love vaping and I see nothing wrong with you enjoying as well . I think the ability to spell hooligan disqualifies OP from being one. Sort of odd tho... I'm used to a hooligan being a somewhat violent/destructive version of a foot-the-ball supporter. Not to be confused with your US carry-the-ball game.

How other people choose to live their lives is none of my business. I say vape on. How many times have we heard people say on here that nicotine by itself is no worse for you than caffeine? Would people have the same reaction if you picked up a cup of coffee? People like the woman you mentioned need to mind their own business.

You can't use the nicotine/caffeine comparison to advocate for vaping and then say it's ok to vape as a non-smoker as long as you're not using nicotine. Can't have it both ways, just sayin.......
