Am I the only one surprised that literally no one asks what the hell that contraption I'm smoking is?

I agree with GM5, most people don't ask me about it at first, but someone's curiosity always has me explaining what I am doing, how it works, and how I like it. I am always overly cordial and happy to share any information they may want.

It is weird I rarely see any other vapers out and about. The only time was an older man using one in a bar and grill, and the only reason I noticed that was due to the fact he was explaining it to the people at his table.

Hi, I vape every where I go, even when i don't need too!! I just am so focused on getting people to recognize this device so we can promote it in a non-threating manner.. People just dont know anything about it, we must go public at all times.. When a store manager approaches me to stop, then I will, until then, I vape..vape..vape..!

No you are not alone! I do get some strange looks - and children do give me the "eye" once in a while.
Funny though, now that I am vaping, I do not hang around as many smokers as I used to. Guess it is due to me being able to vape inside rather than hovering over an ashtray outside.
And yet, I have not met one other person who is into vaping - I know there are people out there, I just haven't seen them yet. I have had a few opportunities to educate bystanders, which makes me feel so good.

I wonder if our so "politically-correct" stance in society prevents anyone from approaching us with a questioning look? I am all for people to question.

Cheers, and Happy Vaping:thumbs::thumbs:

I've been asked by a few people, owing to the fact that I use an 808 -- taking a puff of something that glows blue instead of flaring orange-red like an analog tends to attract attention, as does the absurd amount of vapor compared to smoke. Oddly, it's usually not, "Hey, what is that?" but rather, "Hey, that's one of those e-cigs, huh?"

So, last week my husband and I were waiting for a flight out of San Francisco International and we went outside for a vape before we went through security. There were a bunch of smokers around, eyeing us suspiciously, but not asking. A SFO police officer comes out, lights a cigarette, and turns and looks at us, and gets all excited. "Hey! Are those eGos? How do you like them? I've been wondering about those!" We showed him our stuff, gave him our spiel about how much we love them and how easy it was to switch, and gave him a couple of vendor cards I had in my purse. He told us how thrilled his wife and kids would be if he went to ecigs. Very funny how all those suspicious smokers suddenly had a change of attitude!

I'd be cool with no one caring, but I don't think that's the case. Lots of people care a lot about their $120/month cable bill, or their $85/month cell phone bill, but these same people never question their $300+/month smoking bill.

That is the cost of addiction my friend. Many people do not try to quit because of cost, but rather health. At least that was the case with me and many other people I know. I've always been friends with the not just poor.... but really poor people... like umm... me, and we all smoked way back when. We didn't have the money for it, but managed to find it. Be it the sacrifice of food, or maybe a bill for others all for addiction.

I've gotten some funny looks but rarely questions. Older folks from another generation, who weren't so damn scared to question things asked me about it more than anyone else I've noticed. This society seems to be getting, or has already been crafted into an atmosphere that is scared to ask questions or just strike up conversation with strangers. Moms with kids seriously give me dirty looks sometimes, even though I try to be polite and not actually vape when I see a little one around, and I'm talking about when I'm outside! Just can't please some people. Assumptions.... well.... they're grand. I do think many people think vapers are up to... ummm... something else based on the looks I've gotten at times.

Oh, they're out there ... You probably see at least a few every time you go shopping.
You just don't recognize them as a e-smokers ... because they don't feel comfortable
vaping in public.

Approximately 10 Million vapers in the US (latest estimate per another member of the ECF)

One thing is for sure ...
We need more openly vaping in public.

A few months back ... I was sitting on a bench outside a mall (vaping of course)
and a lady stopped right in front of me and said OH, its really nice to see
someone vaping and pulled her PV from her purse and started vaping. She said
she felt more comfortable vaping in public knowing someone else was vaping also.

Food for Thought
:)

There is that -- and if vapers met on the street are of a mindset similar to the posters here, I can imagine that not only would there be a greater comfort level to vaping openly in public, there would also be quite a few friendships or at least comfortable acquaintances formed by it. Who doesn't like to talk about/compare their PVs/favorite juices/favorite mods? Guaranteed conversation starter material.

I get compliments on "cool pipe"! (That's California for you.) So I immediately say "Nicotine!" if it's someone far away, or "Big Ecig" if they're close-enough to talk to.

I also am running into more and more smokers who have an ecig, either at home or unused in their pockets. Either they haven't found one they want, or a spouse thinks they should minimize vaping because it "isn't safe" or they think if they can go outside they should smoke the real thing.

I emphasize 3 things:

1. Vaping is NOT KNOWN TO BE SAFE. It's only 99% safer than smoking. (This is because their spouses are STARTING from various cancer or gov't website information and we lose credibility if we say it is safe.) And I say some people have been able to give up oxygen tanks. I do mention that if OTC ecigs bother them they should look into VG.

2. One does NOT have to buy a kit, just the important pieces, they can stay in the $35 range, which is getting to be closer to a carton of cheapo stinkys.

3. Mine is big because the battery lasts longer that way.

I also mention I don't think mine is wired correctly for anything but nic juice.

Sorry... I wasn't referring to nor advocating use but only to erroneous public perceptions.

So that's why I explain 1. It's nicotine and 2. Long-time vapers like longer-lasting batteries (which is to imply that they'll see more big rigs than just mine that are still nicotine.

BINGO !!!!!!!!

We are ALL Smoking Buddies
:)

Remember hearing (and saying) ...
Hey, buddy ... can I bum a smoke? ... Sure, here ya go !!
You can always count on another smoker to come to the rescue !!
Smokers are a tight knit group and many times more friendly than non-smokers
:toast:

Many of have fond memories of hanging out with other smokers on smoke breaks
because we enjoyed smoking with other smokers... Same today ... We enjoy e-smoking with others.

My minister saw me vaping while driving and shook his head in disgust. I felt I need to explain to him so I did the next time I saw him. Normally I wouldn't care though.
Next time you go to church ...
Sit on the front pew
During the sermon ... from time to time ...
Shake your head back and forth with a disgusted look on your face !!!!!!!!
:p

PS (off-topic)
My Ole Man was a preacher
I haven't seen the inside a church in decades
There's reasons !!!

I used to worry about it but not much anymore. I do try to be discreet driving or stopped at traffic lights cause I really don't want to be pulled over and have any embarrassment on the side of the road.

You can find discreet apv's to use like this sidewinder. It mostly fits in my hand and I love it with the tru stone drip tip from Drip Tips
