I have chased the latest and greatest wasting a lot of money. I got the REO with an RM2 and have used it since early November '14. I tired the Odin dual, nice but it is a little more difficult. I went back to the single coil RM2. The REO isn't the latest; it's been around a while with a loyal following. However, in my opinion, it is the greatest. It is nearly indestructible, most repairs can be done at home if necessary and the manufacturer will stand behind the product. The only repair I have needed was my own fault because I pushed the fire button too hard on a flat top battery. The RM2 is an easy build and produces flavor that I can taste (I mix my own). I don't chase clouds but the RM2 makes a nice cloud at 1.0 to 1.2 Ohm. If you by chance don't like it, it is an easy resell.

If you use ReadyXWick, you can build a coil that will last an extremely long time with dry burns, try it, you'll like it.

PawPaw,

I agree, and don't want the additional hassle of a dual coil. My current setup is an Istick and Lemo , usually at about 1.5-1.7 ohm build. That said, I have been debating getting a REO grand with RM2. I'm a complete doofus with coil builds and the RM2 appears to be the absolute simplest setup there is. I struggle sometimes building coils because I am impatient and not that coordinated.....and my wicking doesn't always come out just right on the Lemo. I can usually manage something of a decent vape......but that RM2 appears idiot proof.

Thoughts? Am I just convincing myself to buy something different again? Been vaping since Sep 2014, and frankly don't want to just keep truckin down the rabbit hole for the next best thing. I really kinda think the Reo + RM2 might be the simplest deal with the easiest build. I already know clearos + prebuilt coils aren't satisfying to me. The Lemo works, but I sometimes struggle for 30mins to get a decent build.

Don't know how, but I wrapped a 3/32, 7 /8 wrap with 28g and came up with 1.0 ohms on the DMM. Thought maybe it was a weak spot in the Kanthal, so I test fired about five or six times and checked again. 1.0 ohms again. seems a little low on the Ohms, but it's been vaping all week none the less. Might get some 30g out this weekend and see if I can bump that up to1.5 ohms or so.

A Kayfun is still the best vape I've ever enjoyed, nothing lowly about it. They're a piece of cake to build for, which isn't just great for noobs, it makes putting a new coil on a kayfun a very fast thing to do. Though I still exercise my profane vacabulary when trying to mount a coil in a kayfun, sometimes.... keeping that wire under that screw can sometimes be a real challenge. :D Andria
There's a simple way to ease building a kayfun . These are the proper size screws for a KFL/3.1 , order the matching hex nuts and use them as a washer to trap the wire underneath , it gives you a lot more surface area to catch the wire and both the screws and hex nuts are higher quality stainless steel than the ones that come with most clones . If I did it more often, I think I wouldn't have such a problem with it -- I tend to leave a good working coil in place for months, and in-between times, I kinda lose the knack of it. Recently I re-coiled both my kayfuns, and the first one, I thought I would NEVER get that silly thing mounted. But when I did the 2nd one, piece of cake -- I relearned when I did the first one. :D

I just put a new build on my new Magma; I had kinda gotten over feeling that 28ga coil was slow, but tonight I decided to try out my more-usual 29ga, though a lower resistance than I typically use in my kayfuns (1.8-2.0). This one, I was actually aiming for 1.6 ohms, but it came out as the same 1.4 ohms as the 28ga one was; not a huge surprise, as I often end up with a coil that's +/- about .2 from whatever I was aiming at. Just lack of experience I expect. But my perceptions of the 28ga as slow seem to be accurate; this has the same resistance as the 28ga coil, but *instant* response -- at least it feels *instant*, much like my kayfun coils, for which I also use 29ga, though with another wrap or two to hit 1.8-2.0. There's definitely more vapor with this lower resistance; with my high PG, I'm accustomed to seeing nearly immediate dissipation, but with this coil, at 1.4 ohms, the "wisps" are more lingering; not sure how cloud chasers or VG vapers stand it, it's kinda annoying. :D

Well, my first week with my Magma has been just swell. Yeah it can be a bit of a pain with some leaking, but the vape is great. However, it would seem that perhaps I am becoming spoiled with the magma's great performance, the slightly increased vapor, whether it's because the coil is .4 lower ohms than my usual kayfuns, or just 'cuz it's an RDA, but I seem to be having a problem getting my kayfuns to work right, now. 8-o Is this normal, when you first get an RDA? Or I am just, as usual, weird?

I expect what I need to do is build the kayfuns around 1.5 instead of 1.8, and probably open the airflow a bit, for the hotter coil. It's very frustrating, since I like to have a couple or three flavors available, but the only one that's tasted right all day is the strawberry and cream, in the magma. And I just got a 3rd KFL+ today, a gold one, and it's an EHPro this time, rather than Tobeco like my other 2. I guess it just needs a somewhat different build than the tobecos, for best performance. It might also have been a "machine oil" problem; I got tired of trying to guess, and boiled it for about half an hour.

Any feedback, on such a weird problem? anyone else suddenly become inept with your previous favorite, just 'cuz you got something different to play with?

Been using 28 gauge on a variety of atomizers including kayfuns .... & have recently came to the same conclusion! 28G takes too long to heat up & cool down imho, and with thirsty mods like kayfuns, I can hear juice crackling for a second or 2 after releasing the fire button - perhaps contributing to the kayfuns outrageous juice consumption.
Eagerly waiting on 29gauge in the vape mail :)

And I also agree .... running 1.4 ohms on kayfuns vaping 95%VG juice (reactions to PG blends) .... I can't vape indoors without windows open, it is annoying.

You'll like the 29ga; it's sturdier than 30ga, so coils don't deform so easily just by pulling a soaked wick out, but FAR faster to heat than 28ga. I had a couple of coils made with 29ga that lasted from August to December; one of them started not working so well, though the other still worked just fine, but I went ahead and replaced them both so I wouldn't get confused about which was the older coil.

I'd hate to think how bad my house would get fogged if I used high-Vg; I stick with 83% or 84% PG, so I can breathe (VG gives me something in my chest that feels a lot like a hairball!), and also not annoy my husband when we're watching TV, or riding around in the truck.

I'm just about to start working on my Kayfuns again, to see if I can make them behave. Since I boiled my new kayfun last night, there shouldn't be any machine oil left. Also, I figured out that one problem I was having with taste was because I had substituted French Vanilla Creme for Vanilla Swirl in my chocolate cream recipe, and the french vanilla creme isn't NEARLY as good, or as sweet, as the Vanilla Swirl. But I'm thinking that since I do prefer 29ga instead of 28ga, I might make some 3/32 coils instead of 7/64, so there's enough wraps to give me good vapor, even at 1.4Ω. And I might give rayon another try, instead of organic cotton.

Last year or so been vaping gennies exclusively with wire mesh, when I got my Kayfuns in wicked them with organic cotton. I quickly changed to rayon.... All I could taste was, well, cotton. Much happier using rayon, especially with the thick vg, it wicks much better and no cottony aftertaste. I've found I need to use much thicker rayon than cotton in the wick... For example, a cotton wick one should be able to easily pull thru the coil... With rayon, I wick them very tight as it doesn't expand when wet like cotton does. I usually do 8 wraps on a 2mm coil and get great results, many others use a larger coil - 2.8 or 3mm. Course that will all change slightly using 29 gauge once I get it in. Best o luck on your rayon builds!

Yup! I found that too; I've been experimenting between 32 and 30 gauge as a result. So far I'm leaning towards the 30

It seems the "problem" is solved now. I got both my new one and one of my older ones setup with a 3/32 coil, 6 wraps, right at 1.4Ω, wicked with rayon, and loosened the airflow slightly to account for the slightly hotter coil, and now both seem to be working fine.

I think the "problem" was that I got used to the looser airflow in the magma, and the slightly greater amount of vapor, and compared to that, the kayfuns seemed anemic, with their 1.8Ω coils and tight airflow. They're back to "awesome" now. :D

I had stopped using rayon after I got that RSBT, because that thing is such a huge pain to build and wick; I got several dry hits, using a rayon wick, and GACK, dry hits on rayon make dry hits on cotton taste GOOD. I finally just put the RSBT away in the same drawer as my old T3S's and Caterpillar, never to be used again. :D With KFL+ clones as cheap as they are now, there's no reason to put up with anything that's as big a PITA as that RSBT! Weird how I can't abide Smok "buildables" yet I love my Smok cartotank, and my new Smok Galileo, and even my old Smok ARO Winder (though the matching ARO Pyrex is in the same drawer as the T3S's, Caterpillar, and RSBT!). I think Smoktech is really better at mods than attys.

Yup, tend to agree. But must admit I liked the smok rsst design, having insulated mesh holes & a plastic tank was a real plus for a beginner gennie atty that solved shorting issues in more advanced-user genesis traditional designs.

I'm a mouth to lung type vaper and I usually prefer a single coil because it's easier of course, and in small atties designed for a single coil they can really shine, however some atties just need duals to shine as brightly... duals doesn't necessarily have to be about cloud chasing or super high power builds, I choose single or dual as a tuning tool, just as choosing the diameter or the number of wraps...

some atties with larger chambers simply require duals, they just don't vape as well with a single, muted flavor and dull... cyclone with afc is a perfect example of that... to me it absolutely requires duals... without duals your better off just using a smaller atty, a single will never taste as good in a cyclone with afc as it would in an rm2.

duals can give a more fluffy flavorful vape if you take the time to balance them well and have everything else right. I'll admit that duals do add another aspect to the build and create yet another variable and can make dialing in a great vape more complicated but make no mistake, duals can give a great mtl tight draw vape, just as much as a single. I think too many just approach duals as being for cloud chasers or automatically think they have to chuck huge vapor because they are using duals but that's not necessarily true in all cases. you should match the amount of coil to the amount of volume available in the chamber. if you want to stay simple and stay with singles then I'd advise that you should also stay with the tiny atties like cyclone non afc, divo, rm2, chalices and the like... using single coils in an atty then has too large of a chamber is counterproductive to a great tasting vape...

if you really want to stick with singles then stick with an atty designed for singles but don't think that it's impossible to get a really rich flavorful mtl vape with a proper set up pair of duals in an atty that requires duals... can a larger atty that shines with duals still be used with a single? yes, of course, but the flavor will be muted compared to an ideal setup... it's all about getting to the ideal setup for the way you vape.

I've never tried any of the "gennie" types at all, the idea of a metal "wick" seems bizarre to me, plus I didn't care at all for the little 510 drippers, all I could really taste from those was hot metal. Someone said the RSBT is somewhat like some earlier version of a Fogger, I think it was. The coil sits down in this little cup thingie, with slots on the sides for the wick -- like a larger version of a kanger T3S actually. But I never could get it working to my liking. It leaks unless you wick the hell out of it, and if you do, then it's really easy to get dry hits -- just like a T3S!! :D Also I didn't like something about the airflow; it reminded me a lot of their Caterpillar, which I got because it was cheap and I didn't really understand these things too well, but I really hate that thing.

I'm really glad I finally got the Magma clone though; it's kind of a pain for taking out and about, what with needing to keep it upright, and it's propensity to leaking, but it's do-able -- today I put it on one of my iTaste vv3's, since the coil is 1.4Ω, just above the vv3's cutoff, and it's pretty easy to stand it upright against a bottle of water in the cupholder. :thumb:

Still feel a properly set genny with a nice wide diameter wick hole is the best tasting vape there is. Mesh is still IMHO and experience the best tasting longest lasting wick material. Just very steep learning curve making it tricky for most. I've tried EVERYTHING.. ceramic, ready x wick(talk about over hyped), silica, cotton, hemp twine....Mesh is my preference...

    TOTALLY AGREE!
The ONLY reason my gennies have been recently replaced with Kayfuns is the unforgiving and often hard builds mesh requires in conjunction with phase of the moon, tides and barometer readings, solar fluxes, secret society teachings, and plain old luck :)

And I'm building for 2 heavy vapors...my better half totally relies on me, wouldn't know a coil from a carburetor.

Kayfuns are really easy ... Almost idiot proof .... To get a good consistent build. But the best kayfun pales in comparison to a proper set up gennie!

SS mesh is a very nice wick. However, the genny-style builds are extremely finicky. I believe this is the reason you don't see many of them anymore. Even then, I find the Kayfun and numerous variants to be an equal or better vape quality than the gennies due mainly because of the direct-to-coil airflow. Just my opinion and nothing more.

Kayfun is a nice vape and really simple. Still IMHO not as"crisp"as a genny or mesh in general. I use mesh in EVERYTHING...Not trying to be confronting. Just my feelings.

Right now the best RTA on the market I feel is the Youde Goblin. Lacks capacity though(they're adding a larger tank) and dual only. Not a single leak at all. HUGE juice channels that you feed the wick through into the chamber. Did mine with mesh....ohms a little high for duals(.7) might go to 26...

Ideal tank would be 4ml, aga t5 build deck, single coil, goblin styled, and goblin styled juice channels....

I know you're not being confrontational. We all like what we like for a variety of reasons. SS mesh was very popular at one time and there are those who still use it.
