I have smoked American Spirits, and liked them. But anyone who thinks they are any safer than any other brand is fooling themselves. Look on the box, it is right there on the box:
No additives in our tobacco does NOT mean a safer cigarette.
This also applies to their Organic line. Weeds wrapped in paper, on fire, in your mouth is not a safe thing to do no matter what color box it comes in or who grew the weeds. Not everything organic and natural is good for you. Anyone who believes that it is, I invite them to consider eating wild mushrooms indiscriminately, I hear they're absolutely to die for. But more seriously, I would do the napkin test mentioned earlier. Seeing is believing. You may never win her over, but saving your brother's life is more important than playing nice to preserve a marriage to a woman who wants to rule over him. It is a proven FACT that tobacco KILLS. It is a horrible, horrible way to go. I've seen it, it isn't pretty at all, nor quiet. It is precisely what I'm trying to keep my sons from ever having to see happen to me. What he goes through on his death bed IS NOT the way you or anyone in your family will want to remember him. Never forget this is a life or death struggle. You are stronger than you know and you can reach him if not his ignorant wife.

There is a bunch of info on all of the research done on inhaling PG on vapersclub.com. I'm not affiliated with the site, but found it when being questioned by my family about what I was inhaling. If it can shut my family up it can most likely shut up anyone's :). It's hard to argue with 60+ years of research.

Very informative thread. Being new to vaping I am still a tiny bit skeptical of the safety of ecigs, but from my research so far I think I can safely say they are way better than the smoke for analogs.

One question, other than PG (or VG) and nicotene and some flavoring, what else could possibly be in the ecig juices out there?

We all know that it's indeed safer than smoking. I'm not sure what percent safer it is, but it seems to be a whole lot better, not just marginally better.

Propylene Glycol isn't the ingredient in antifreeze, that would be Ethylene Glycol. Propylene Glycol is food grade stuff, found in a lot of things we ingest every day. It's very safe.

Any time you inhale something that is burned, you get carcinogens. That crap will kill you.

Your sister-in-law is very wrong.

PG is indeed a main ingrediant in antifreeze. But PG is safe to consume, so its considered a safe antifreeze, and is used in plumbing applications where drinking water could be contaminated.

Car antifreeze is not safe for any living thing to drink.

I switched to a native type analog before i found the ecig just to get away from the crud that alot of name brands have added to them

But since then i have been vaping for months and have converted many people to pv's

But my best friends wife does not want to change i let her use one of my 901's
and she coughed and gagged etc told me that it was terrible
(i have never seen anybody react like that to vaping)

Some people don't like change and never will change even if it is something good

Try another flavor with her. I had this happen with one of my friends. Same reaction (not on a 901 though). Put a brand new atty and cart on, got it going for her with a different flavor and she loved it. Still smokes her squares, but I am not pushing it... she'll come around if she wants to... she has asked to borrow mine on several occasions.

IMHO - Taste is a HUGE part of why someone likes it or doesn't, especially if the piece they have is broken in and ready to smoke.

My stepmother did the same thing. 40+ year smoker of Winston full-flavor at 2 packs a day. She took one drag off of my NPro a few weeks ago and started coughing and gagging. So I went into instructor mode and told her how to hold it, how to drag off of it, how and when to exhale. Her second drag was 100 times better.

Then, a week later, she started in on me about how dangerous she heard e-cigs were. So we sat down with her laptop and started reading studies. After an hour or so of this, she was convinced. She has since put down the Winstons for good.

Sometimes all it takes a little education.

Well, there are a few things. Some e-juices have citric acid added to them, and quite a few use flavorings that have added food coloring. While I doubt either citric acid or food coloring are in themselves dangerous (they're both present in practically everything we eat or drink), I don't know of any studies dealing with their effects when heated into vapor and inhaled through the lungs.

Again, I would think it's a safe bet that their effects don't come near to the dangers of what is inhaled from the average analog, but I'm not a doctor (though I play one one TV; no, not really).

Yes Lacy
I tried with all the different flavors that i stock for the people i sell to and are the flavors that are popular with most people on the forum I have used these flavors to convert most of all my customers to vaping
I let her use my 510 also to no avail and i doubt that she will like my new copper mod either

Her husband and i have been friends for over forty years and it's like he said some people don't like change

Funny you should mention American Spirit cigarettes. BEC (before e-cigarettes) I was looking for ways to reduce my harm by at least cutting down, since I could not eliminate, the number of cigarettes smoked. I was a one-pack a day smoker for years and years when I smoked regular fliltered cigarettes. When I switched to Benson & Hedges Lights, my per day use climbed up to 2-1/2 packs a day. At the time, I did not connect my switch in brands to my increase in consumption.

Years later, when I read that smokers compensate by smoking more cigarettes or puffing more often when they use reduced nicotine cigarettes, I reasoned that the converse might be true. Perhaps by smoking cigarettes with higher nicotine I could reduce my use. I did some research and learned that the average nicotine content had been falling (contrary to what one state report claims--after using a different method of determining nicotine content). It was difficult to find a chart of nicotine content, but when I did so, I found that Natrive American Spirit delivered about a full milligram of nicotine.

So I switched, and I was able to go from 30 down to 10 cigarettes a day. By way, I still have 19 packs of Native American Spirit (blue). Due to dental surgery, I had to abstain from nicotine for two days, so I decided to take advantage of that opportunity to go full-time vaping. Unfortunately, that happened right after I had used coupons from the manufacturer to buy two cartons. I finished the first pack out of one of the cartons, but that was that.

American Spirit cigarettes allegedly burn more slowly than regular cigarettes. More importantly, they taste different to other cigarettes. I find their flavour fuller, smoother and richer: it is somehow more satisfying and less harsh than that of other brands I have smoked. (This is more true of the Regular than the Light cigarettes). For me, the flavour of the cigarettes would make them worth buying even without the more natural composition, although as I have explained above, the two are in fact related. A non-smoking friend commented that the cigarettes smell better to her than ordinary cigarettes, too.

Regular American Spirit contain 2.05mg of nicotine and 19.5mg of tar (Lights have 13 mg tar, 1.5 mg nicotine). Hmm just wondering tar is good for you right??

I so much appreciate everyone putting in their 2 cents on this issue! I did see my sister-in-law and brother this weekend, but she did not, and I did not, bring up the issue of American Spirits vs. e-cigs :?:
I guess I wimped out, not wanting to start an argument with her. We had some extra people show up this weekend too, so I mostly just avoided talking to her, not wanting to stir anything up in front of these other people.
I just vaped my e-cigs like I normally do. My brother did comment when I went out to vape while he smoked his American Spirits, "So, do you smoke those as much as you did regular cigarettes?" I just told him yes, and that I really like them, and that was that (for now)
I think I have some strong support now though, for giving her when the situation arises again.....thanks again everyone that answered!

Before actually purchasing my 901 a couple weeks ago I did enough research on the things to make someones head spin. Altough there aren't many thorough clinical trials/ research out there i felt the evidence supporting e cigs was overwhelming. Completely agree- e cigs are much better for you than any real or analog tobacco ever will be.
With the popularity of these devices it should be safe to assume that we can expect a bunch of un biased (-FDA) studies to come out shortly. Can't wait to be proven right to all the HATERS out there!
