What e-cig nicotine level would be right for switching from American Spirit cigarettes?

My son is currently smoking American Spirit cigarettes and he agreed to try an e-cig alternative that I offered to get him. I decided to get the Smokeless Image Volt e-cig, but I'm not sure what nicotine concentration to get. I've heard that American Spirit cigarettes have a lot of nicotine so I thought that I should get him 24mg concentration cartomizers, but I'm not sure.

I want to get the right level of nicotine concentration so the e-cig would seem like a good alternative to him, but I'd rather get a lower concentration if that would work just as well. Can anyone suggest what might be appropriate for nicotine concentration?

I'd also like suggestions for what Smokeless Image tobacco flavor would be good to start with as well. Thanks.

I would get a 10ml of 24mg nic flavor. If it doesn't work, buy higher or lower. 24mg is a lot, though. If you think he is going to vape constantly, get an 18mg bottle.

I have to say that I run different level nic flavors for different reasons. I know that if I am vaping a "slightly" low nic level, I will probably vape more. If it is too high, I will reach for it less.

If it is to high and he wants to vape a lot, he will feel it.

I smoked Newport 100's, at a pack a day. They also have high nicotine, one of the highest actually. I started at 18mg, and was still lighting up. Not NEAR as often, but about half a pack a day. When I bumped up to 24mg I was done with cigarettes. I smoked my last one the next morning and haven't had one since. I did get a couple hard cravings this week, but I just vaped more!

Some 18mg and some 24mg should hit the right spot for most beginners. But everyone's different, so long as the level is high enough to beat back the cigarette cravings, don't worry about "too much nic".

Once the smoking habit is broken, it becomes much easier to slowly reduce the nicotine. Just be careful of trying to do it too fast, and relapse into smoking....:)

I came from American spirit rollies an I started with 24mg/ml.
Good luck to your son. I also reccomend you start with premium juices! I wish I bought the good stuff right off the bat.
Try some bobas bounty from alienvisions.com, or tribeca from halo vapors, or elkamino from good life vapors. These are some of my favorites and I highly recomend them for a newcomer.

My hubs and I came from American Spirit and we started at 16mg Volcano juices. We had no problems and once we started, we haven't picked back up. I only had one night where I was ready to light up and that was because I was highly po'd at my own son. But I didn't. I just vaped and vaped and vaped. It passed pretty quickly.

i started on a 24mg when i started BUT i vaped and smoked for the first 2 days. by the end of the second day i was ready to toss my smokes and have never smoked one yet. I also really wanted to quit smoking but i dident want to give up the nic.. if you have a local shop you can find a juice thats tasty...buying blind flavors is not a good way to start off..and you have to give it a week or 2 to detox from the other chemicals that your not getting through a cig ...then its smooth vaping ..:D  :D

From this very good interview with E-Cig researcher Dr. Farsolinos:

The current EU regulation has significant problems of course, particularly around nicotine limits. The current limit is very low. I’ve done two studies on nicotine absorption from e-cigarettes, including the only study that used a third generation device at 9w with a clearomizer. Although we used experienced vapers, the levels of absorption were around one third of that from tobacco – you’d need to vape for 35 minutes to get plasma nicotine levels similar to smoking one tobacco cigarette in five minutes. This shows that e-cigarettes are inefficient at providing nicotine at the same level, especially at the same speed, as tobacco cigarettes.

I started with 24 mg after 1.25 PAD Pall Mall Lights and haven't looked back. There have been times when I wished I had 36, but I just chain vaped to get over the hump. Taking the above into account, though, I believe the sell on American Spirit is that they have less of the other chemicals than the BT brands, so I'm guessing 24 should be plenty. Of their flavors, I would stick with tobacco to start out as that at least approximates the taste from smoking. (After he switches, he'll find that it's much much better!) The 555, Freedom or RY4 would probably be alright. There are other vendors that have very good juice also. Good for you and your son!
