Oh, so I have been on here for the past few days... reading, and reading and reading!! Lot's of info to take in and it's making me quite a bit nervous to hit that 'place order' button! I have been smoking for about 12 yrs now and have been wanting to quit for quite some time. My 10 yo DD has now asked me when that day will be! And here we are, trying to find a way to a healthier and better life! So, if someone can just give me a little hand and lead me in the right direction, that would be GREAT! This is what I have on my list so far on my first purchase... all I need to do is hit the button and it'll be on its way. I just want to make sure I've got what I need:

-the m402 starter kit, which includes:
2x Black atomizers
2x Battery
1x Charger and cable
5x Free cartridges
1x USA plug
- 15 blank/empty carts
- 1 replacement battery (bringing me to 3 total)
- 5 bottles of 10ml liquid in various strengths ranging from 16mg-24 mg
- 1 car charger because I am always on the road :)
- 1 carrying case

Any suggestions would be highly appreciated!!!

Looks like you are all set. The only thing I can suggest now is to just jump in. I took the jump myself, but didn't order any e-liquid, so it was back to analogs for a few days until my order came in. This order looks like it will last you at least two months.

Ah there is one thing I would change: I'd swap out the replacement battery for a spare atomizer. batteries last much longer than attys do.

Welcome to vaping.

Thank you! I will make sure to add in an extra atty. As far as the liquids go, I'd just rather over-purchase than under-purchase and then get stuck with nothing!8-o Well, about to make the plunge! Thanks again for your response!

How long do batteries usually last? i mean, how many charges can I get away with until they're done?

Batteries usually last 100-200 recharge cycles. Some, better batteries can last as many as 300 cycles. If you are recharging once a day the batteries should last most of a year, or at the very least 6 months.

Just wondering why you settled on the m402? Why not a 901 or 510, which seem to be the overall most recommended.

I have a a 901, 510, and a modified blu with m801 atty and carts (which I believe is very close to a m401, correct me if I'm wrong). I love my 901 and 510. The blu's charging case is cool but the throat hit, vapor production, and overall experience of the m801 falis in comparison to both the 901 and 510.

I also recommend using blue foam as a replacement filler of the standard poly fill that comes in whatever one you end up going with. I have been using it on all my models for a couple of days now and WOW what a difference.

The M4xx is a nice little PV. I think it will serve you well. Ordering the variety of liquids is a great idea! In relatively short order you will figure out what level works best for you, but it might change over the course of the next couple of weeks. That isn't anything to be concerned about, just something to be aware of.

And if and when you decide you want to try a different PV, don't be concerned about it. You will still be saving money in the long run and your health will be better. Many of us have a collection of PVs that we use in different situations!

Welcome to the forum and enjoy your stay!

My problem is that I'm a gadget freak as well so I want them all. :)

Well, it was DEFINITELY a tough choice... so many different one's out there that I wasn't even aware of. It was between the m402 and the 510.... reviews for both were amazing, but most people seemed to lean towards the m410/m420 as a 'first' e-cig. They also mentioned that it has pretty good battery life and that is definitely a plus for me. I am sure though, that I will be purchasing a 510 as well in the near future! Or better yet, may purchase the 510 for the DH who is over in Afghanistan and would love to quit as well. Smoking analogs there is becoming difficult for him because of the altitude. But again, thank you for your input!!!

Oh, that is exactly what I am afraid of!!!! I start seeing all these nifty gadgets here and there and next thing you know... I want them ALL!!!:( Anyhoo, I will keep them all in mind and may have a collection of my own before I know it! I am very excited to try this out and start vaping... my kit can't get here fast enough!!! Heck, I think my kiddos are just about as excited as I am! :)

I have a 510 and I am not fond of the carts either but I haven't modified the carts by using the blue foam. There are different schools of thought on going that route and I decided not to use a product that "might" have some unknown harmful effects. I'd rather drip. It's easy and at least the only unknown I'm dealing with is the effects of PG/VG on my lungs. Since our lungs start clearing up it seems that it certainly is much safer than continuing to smoke. We all know where that is leading.

***correction*** I meant to say m401/m402! sorry!

Ok, so I finally placed my order today! And I have got to say that I am pretty stoked about it and cannot wait to start vaping! But, I am confused about a couple of things such as when to replace they atty and what the difference is between 'topping off' and 'refilling'! Hope someone out there can help me out before my order arrives! Thanks in advance!

LOL - I understand that completely! So far I have five different types of PVs - dozens of batteries, a stock pile of atties, bunches of e-liquid, and I'm on a quest to have every flavoring for e-liquid ever produced!

You replace the atty when it stops working. Or if it reaches a point where it doesn't produce much vapor even with cleaning. (You will learn more about that here on the forum!)

You top off a cartridge by adding a couple to several drops (normally the same flavor) to it to fill it up again without cleaning it out. Refilling is normally when you clean the cartridge material first so it is completely empty and fill it up from scratch. You can use the same flavor or a different one.

There is more info on all of that here on the forum. Read a lot and I'm sure you will pick up bunches of tips that you will want to try. In the end, the secret is to find what works for you.

I have my fingers crossed for you and your success!!!

GREAT! Thank you for the info. So I get the whole topping off/refilling deal now, but.... how often should I be actually cleaning the cartridge and refilling it versus just topping it off? Oh, and THANK YOU all for the encouraging words!

I clean it whenever it seems to stop wicking as well at it was. LOL - I know... not an easily quantifiable description. As you use cartridges the liquid has a tendency to dry a bit and can develop a residue that prevents or impedes the flow of the rest of the liquid to the atomizer. Eventually it reaches a point where the cartridge will be full, but the atomizer still doesn't seem to be getting any liquid. You ideally want to clean before that happens. I also clean if I want to change flavor.

I find that I will mini-clean an M4xx cartridge a couple of times a day by pulling the filler out and blotting it on a tissue when it needs topping off. I do a more thorough cleaning every couple of days with hot water. After a certain amount of time, the filling will kind of wear out and need to be replaced. It isn't hard at all and there are bunches of things you can use. Look around the forum and you will find lots of suggestions from polyfil quilt batting to aquarium foam. You may need to fiddle with the amount to get it just right. I replace my cartridges one a week or so and I don't really bother to replace the filling most of the time. They aren't expensive and the new ones look so pretty compared to my older chewed up ones!

;)

When you quit smoking, and I'm sure you will. You will figure out how to clean, drip and everything in between real quick. Before you know it you will be a month with no analogs and a vaping ninja!!

Ahhhh.. music to my ears! Will definitely keep you all posted on how all turns out! Thanks! :)
