State lawmakers considered a bill (S298/A3704) in 2017 to ban the sale and distribution of flavored e-cigarettes in New Jersey.

The measure would have permitted three flavors to stay: menthol, clove, and tobacco. But the bill stalled in the Legislature.

Clove flavor ....
You never smoked a clove cigarette before?

Talk about lung irritant. Also, clove is popular with the kiddies.
Because they can get more of a "buzz". Been there, done that MANY years ago. When I tried one I got lightheaded and dizzy. Probably why kids liked them.

In the end the bigger thought was there are variables and unknowns, it's fine, that is the way life works, and research is a good thing. It was pretty clear though that when you suddenly see a big upswing in 'vaping related illness' that it's smart to question, what really happened? The THC/vitamin E acetate detail seems to be coming out as the real reason so many got sick in a short amount of time. Also a good thing, though unfortunately that fact may not be enough to stop the bandwagon of jumping on the political bandwagon of vaping is 'bad'.

Yes, it does. But unfortunately the media is still doing its best to conflate the two kinds of vaping.

/nod, the real problem, and unfortunately most people cannot dissect the two entirely separate thoughts/matters. It's a blind spot we all have to some degree (co-mingling factors that have nothing to do with each other), and a tool some use on purpose too.

p.s. Just wanted to add though, it isn't just the media, it's every contributor to the media, from our government on down to every pundit, they all use this tool, the media is to some degree the messenger. We at least have plenty of politicians who are jumping on this bandwagon and are depending on the media to reiterate their words, word for word (or in video at least).

i would like to ask, is safe to bring the oil and carts used for THC oils to this conversation? cuz you know, many users talks about what they see and read but they dont know that much about the devices itself...

I don't see why not, although this isn't a THC related lipoid pneumonia issue. This was an overdose on ecstasy and ketamine. No oil needed.

i have heard pretty wrong comments on other places regarding oil vape pens (the most common name for thc carts and more...) so... i cant believe people getting confused or used to try someone else vapes without being sure whats inside? is pretty easy to get also counterfeit or fake oil carts now days, market is flooded in bad copies and counterfeits now days, i have used some of those carts, also have seen the fakes ones and diferences are pretty obvious...

The plus side is everyone here knows that 'vaping' is a verb, and it is has gotten confabulated (might not be a word lol), with vaping classic e-liquid and later nic salts, with using the devices to vape apparently anything that from rat poison to well ... cynical thoughts.

Sadly, what we know doesn't automatically translate to other's perception. Changing that perception of what vaping is about is beyond me too, but at least it's good to read you all understand the benefits of vaping vs smoking. Now just how to pass that message on... so hard.

What are dyketones? I’m imagining a lesbian choral group at this point.

There is a great book I am about to write about, forgive me in advance, but most of us remember the popcorn lung story.

The book is "How Not to Be Wrong: The Power of Mathematical Thinking" by Jordan Ellenberg. The opening chapter starts with a story that I won't reiterate because doing so would do it no justice, but it's a great example of how we can end up focusing on 1, 2, even 400 people dying a year, while we gladly overlook 100 people dead a day, 300 wounded a day, or even 1500 people dying a day... and that is exactly what happened here. To score political points and votes, tell people whatever is currently popular. Yes I am a cynic ;)

I was looking for something the other day and wound up on dh gate. They are selling quantities of empty cartridges with the legal cannabis dispenseries names on them. And they are dirt cheap. Horrible.

Seems to me this is not only a FDA problem but also a DEA (Drug Enforcement Agency) problem, too. What's the term ... drug paraphenalia? This is really a can of worms.

A class of flavoring compounds that you may not want to inhale.
diketones vaping at DuckDuckGo
So basically diacetyl and a few other very similar compounds that do basically the same thing.

This sounds like kind of a diacetyl renaming. What it sounds like to me is all of these compounds should be treated as if they are diacetyl. Therefore the standard diacetyl questions all come up:

So do theses similar compounds fall under the deeming or not? How prevalent are they in air? What are the actual harmful levels?
