Any advice on what device to buy would be helpful? Thanks

Hello Everyone,

Happy to read this site and see that folks have had so much success with the e-cigs. I think I am now ready to take the leap of faith and see what all the hype is about.

Little history, I am 32 year old male, I started smoking when I was 12 years old working on a shrimp boat in the waters of louisiana. I live in New Orleans and love to have a great tasting beer. Smoking has without a doubt, been my best friend and companion for ever, but now that I have a new baby boy, I would like to take the risk of lung cancer out of play. I smoke Marlboro Light Menthol cigarettes, and I smoke roughly a pack a day. I smoke more when fishing, hunting and playing golf, but my average is about 1 pack per day. If smoking wouldn't kill me, I wouldn't quit. I enjoy it that much, that is why this idea of not quitting, just substituing with a vapor ecig seems like a worthy chance. I tried Chantix and it made me extremly sick, and didn't last more than 3 days taking it, and I still smoked while taking it.

QUESTIONS:

Without price concerns, what ecig will accomplish my goals to help me?

What ecig gives the strongest menthol flavor and throat hit?

What ECIG gives a large volume vapor hit that you can really feel?

What ECIG lasts the longest?

Which ECIG is the fastest to charge?

Do they make an ECIG that vapors while you are holding it in your hand like a cigarette would burn?

I don't really have the time to do all of the proper research to find which ecig would be best for me, so that is why I joined this forum. Many thanks to any advice you can give. I heard that some ECIG companies were paying people to post on forums, and review sites to push their product, and I am not looking for anything like that so please stay away. I would like good, honest responses and recommendations.

It depends on your lifestyle... I am very busy all day long so have found that a bottom feeder (Reo, Phidias...) are the best solution for me. Juice has a lot to do with throat hit and vapor. More PG..more throat hit, more VG, more vapor. If you go with a box mod then you just buy batteries for it and it can last a lifetime... Lots of people start with an eGo style ecig and they are great but many of us go on to the mods for satisfaction. Great to have you here and so happy you are wanting to make the change!

ecigs are hardware. eliquids give flavor

fastest to charge - irrelevant - fastest to charge are the worst ecigs

Re your other questions - you need a fat battery model or a mod because slim ecigs do not give the biggest hit, do not give the best vapor, and do not last the longest

Start with an Ego (the original) or Riva 510 (a slightly less expensive clone)
They are 510 threaded fat battery models so they have the largest selection of atomizers, blank cartomizers, and also tank atomizers and tanks
They are fat battery models so they can use standard resistance atomizers or cartos, or the hotter hardier hitting low resistance ones (LR ones do eat the charge faster). My Riva is 750mah or about 6-8 hour charge life and you can get bigger batteries all the way up to 1000mah or maybe higher.
Liberty-Flights.com - click 20% off on the upper left of the front page and look at the Riva 510 (light bundle will show as under $30 w/ the 20% off) and look at the Ego and Ego-T

atty+cartridge (aka cart) of the 3-piece form becomes annoying for most people pretty fast. Most people end up either dripping on an atty, using cartomizers, or using tank atomizer and tanks

I use cartomizers. A cartomizer is a disposable combined cart and atomizer and if you get good soft-cap ones (about $2 each) and keep them damp with juice you should be able to use one for 4-7 days or more.

I suggest you start off with a Riva 510 and some boge 510lr cartos. These deliver a great hit and good satisfaction with long battery life. The cartos are refillable. You can get preloaded cartos from various vendors and you can buy juice to load your own. Lots of good menthols out there. don't worry about having your vape taste exactly like your cigarettes. They don't, but after a week you'll prefer the taste of your vape over the taste of a cigarette. Cigarettes have tar, ash, sulpher, potassium nitrate that add to the flavor of a cigarette. without these things, e-cigs actually taste better, IMO. Good luck to you.

Without price concerns, what ecig will accomplish my goals to help me?
The best electronic cigarette for you can only be determined by you.
And you can't determine that yourself until you start using one and see what you like and what you don't like.

So I think you should probably start with an Ego/Riva/Tornado model.
They are very good models that provide a lot of options, and are fairly inexpensive.

In the future you might very well want to move up to a juice feeding mod and/or a variable voltage mod.

What ECIG gives the strongest menthol flavor and throat hit?
What ECIG gives a large volume vapor hit that you can really feel?
The hotter the atomizer gets, the more throat hit and vapor you will get.

That means more power, which means either more voltage or lower resistance.
And that usually requires a bigger battery than the little cigarette sized devices.

What ECIG lasts the longest?
The bigger the battery the longer it lasts.

Which ECIG is the fastest to charge?
The bigger the battery, the longer it takes to charge.

Do they make an ECIG that vapors while you are holding it in your hand like a cigarette would burn?
No, they do not.

I don't really have the time to do all of the proper research to find which ecig would be best for me.
Then you are going to need to buy something to learn with.
And make sure to keep asking questions along the way.
:)

I use mods with rechargeable batteries. But as I just mentioned in another thread, I got a pig cig(battery and pigtail charger)available at le cig, and some 808 megas (LR and STD) from IKENVAPE. Now the best menthol liquid I have found(and I have tried many) is the menthol fro Backwoods Brew. You can choose your strength (mg's), and your menthol strength. I use light menthol strength, it is not overpowering like most menthols. With this combo, you should get that (CLOSE TO) analog feel. Also something to try would be using a LR 901 carto from IKENVAPE with that sme pig cig, and the same juice. I liked the later beter, but I think the 901 is out of stock. Anyways thats just my peronal discoveries. Hope this helps( it's been helping my father get off the KOOLS for the last few days. GOOD LUCK and welcome to the wonderful world of:vapor::vapor::vapor:VAPING!!!

I would suggest starting with a "cartomizer" model, as they are the most user-friendly for beginners. If you want the option to try both, I know that one company sells a model (which is normally a 3 piece e-cig) with an adapter for cartomizers. That way you can easily switch between a cartomizer or an atomizer/cartridge combo.
The company: VaporNine, the model: vapor cannon. Link: Electronic Cigarette Kits

DORMOUSE is correct, flavor and throat hit depend on the nicotine liquid, which flavor/strength you choose, how the liquid is made, etc. If you are looking for a strong menthol flavor I would suggest starting with the 24mg (or high) strength. There are literally dozens of different menthol flavors out there to choose from.

I think the eGo/Riva would be a good place to start. They can be had for pretty cheap and you can go a whole day on just one or two batteries. The batteries come in different sizes starting at like 650 mAh or so (what I have). They are are about the size of a cigar (not the thick ones) so you can comfortably hold it as you would a cigarette. The increased capacity of these batteries compared to the small cig-style will allow you to use low-resistance atties and cartos. Lower resistance means more power and a stronger throat-hit/more vapor.

If you want to spend more money you can get a "mod". A "mod" is basically an e-cig with a replacable battery. These batteries can be bought online or maybe at your local electronics shop. Mods are usually bigger and heavier than the normal eCigs but they have several advantages depending on the mod in question. One advantage is that you can replace the battery. Some mods let you use different types of batteries so you can change the voltage. Some of the newer mods have Variable Voltage that let you manually adjust the voltage in small increments without changing the battery. A lot of mods use big, high capacity batteries like the 18650 so you can vape an entire day or more on one charge.

The good thing about Menthol flavors is that they have a natural "kick" to them that adds to the throat hit. I've had menthol flavors from a few different vendors and I have to say that the taste really varies between them. It's been a long time since I've vaped Menthol so I don't feel comfortable recommending one to you but be sure to do your research on this because like I said, they really vary. Try some that a lot of people are raving about.

I'm pretty sure they don't make an eCig that has vapors coming out the back end. It's actually kind of difficult to get vapor without some type of airflow over the atomizer coil.

If you decide you are willing to give up strongest hit, most vapor, longest charge to have something slim then look at Vapor4Life.com w/ standard manual batteries or the same model more basic as KR808D-1 manual kit at LiteCigUSA.net. I recommend the Vapor4Life prefilled and Blank cartos - they burn a bit hotter than the 3.0 ohm ones you'll find in other shops. Manuals because autos are too easy to kill with a cartomizer juice drip (and manuals won't turn on by accident from wind or vibration and also give you more control of your hit). The standard KR808D-1 batteries are 280mah vs the 750mah+ of Riva so unless you are a heavy vapor a standard KR8 battery could last you 3-4 hours. The KR808D-1 model is the most popular 2-piece, 3.7volts, not compatible with 510 without an adapter and as a slim ecig it cannot use low resistance cartos or atomizers.

I'm a beginner myself, and a week ago I bought the Vapor4Life one mentioned above. I'm not really interested in building my own, or getting into this to the point where it's a hobby, so this one was perfect as it was the easiest to use. Obviously, I can't comment on the others, because I haven't tried them. But for someone who knows nothing about them, and doesn't want to learn, this was the best fit. Be careful on the nic level, if you smoke lights, 24mg may be a bit much. I started with this, and I was racing for about three days. 18mg or even 11mg seems more manageable for "light" smokers. My wife smoked Marb lights and she's been doing good with the 11. 18mg in a mint flavor should give you the throat hit you're looking for. The Wow Peppermint flavor seems pretty good, but I'm sure some more experienced people can give you better ideas.

Go into this knowing (whether you do now or not) that you will end up buying several different types.
I went into it trying to be economical and since January, I have 4 different models. 2 of those are good.
You can't get hurt with a 510 or an Ego kit. But trust me your first kit won't be your last.
Listen to the advice given here. I didn't find the forum until I had purchased 2 bad rip-offs.

Please click this link and tell me if I purchase this kit I have everything I need to start vaping. At what point can I choose the menthol, and does this kit need to be filled, or are they prefilled. There seems to be a steep learning curves with these things the more I research them . Thanks again folks.

T-REX Starter Kit (eGo style) | Buy E-Cigarette Kits, E-Liquid & Accessories online | KingpincigsKingPin E-Cigarettes | Electronic Cigarette Accessories

That would have everything except any nicotine juice, eGo Carto Kit With Carrying Case has a kit a little cheaper and I am a happy repeat customer at MadVapes. Their Minthol juice is tasty, and they also carry the E-Power (ego with replaceable batteries) and the RoughStack (good, inexpensive, rugged mod).

You will find near endless options from various vendors, any listed as registered vendors on the front page of ECF, you can count on fair prices and good customer service. :)

I've never heard of that vendor, but it seems like a decent price for what you're getting.

This part right here says you are getting 5 prefilled cartridges...
5. Cartridges: 5pcs round tip (med-high/16mg Marl bros.)

That is not enough to last more than a day or two, the nicotine strength is probably too low for you, and it isn't menthol.
So you are going to need to buy some juice seperately, which is fine.
You'll be able to use it to refill the cartridges they send you.

Most of us buy our juice seperately, or make our own.
Very few of us buy prefilled cartridges.
