I've been up every night for the past few days until the wee hours of the morning building coils. Picked up an RSST, IGO L, and a Patriot Clone and have tried my hand on all. So far, had great results, cotton's pretty harsh when it burns though lol. Rebuilt a couple of my Protank 2 heads and they were miles above the stock ones IMO. Got a few with 28g, and 30g. Personally I like the 28g, but kinda hard to wrap it and get my desired ohm reading to the PT. On the rebuildables, definitely didn't like 30g. Will probably play around some more until I run out of all my wire lol. Personally, I only desire the tanks for on the go, while I like my RSST and Drippers at home.

Just got my first rebuilding supplies yesterday. Been vaping a little over 2 months on a couple twists with mini novas and a mini pro tank. Figured I'd get the hang of building coils on the PT before getting a mod and some true rebuildables.

I picked up an ohm checker, some 30g kanthal, a torch, organic cotton, and a wire coiling gizmo (as mentioned in the thread posted above by downInTn, page 238 if you use the maximun 40 posts per page.)

Made a darn fine-looking micro coil on my first attempt with no regard to how many wraps I used, I didn't intend to vape on it. Nevertheless, it was small enough to fit in my PT head without a short, and checked at 2.67 ohms. Not too shabby. Made another one, 2.0. Vaped on that one for awhile. Really like the cotton after those first 4 draws or so. I really hate the taste of the silica in stock vivi nova heads, and I hope to never use one again. Right now I'm down to 1.8 ohms at 4.0v or so and I think I'll stay there for awhile.

I was a little nervous to get into it at first, but honestly with as much information as I had gathered from this forum I could have done it with my eyes closed. And that gives me the confidence boost to start working with mechs and associated battery safety precautions.

I decided to revisit my protank heads, and try something a little different. I read one of the other posts on micro coils and cotton, so I thought why not. It can't give me any other problems than what I have now. I've done 2 so far, both 28ga kanthal, one with braided butchers twine and the other with loose cotton (boiled first of course). Did both around a 1.8mm screwdriver, 9-10 wraps. First came out at 1.2 ohm, second at 1.4. Both hit really well, but I think I like the cotton ball wick better. No gurgling or leaking, but I had an issue with the 1.2 ohm butchers twine coil. Occasionally it would refuse to fire and read 0.0 ohms (short). May have gotten sloppy in the build process and let the coil get too close to the inside of the head. I'll check it when I disassemble and rebuild it later this week, but I think the micro coil may be the way to go for me. Anyone else try this in a protank head? Let me know what kind of luck you had.

I'm glad you got into rebuilding your PT heads Kriga. It really gives you a better appreciation for what you can do with a rebuildable atty. I started rebuilding my PT heads and got a genesis style clone at about the same time, and learning one helped with the other, and vice versa. I would recommend a genesis style tank RBA for your first rebuildable. They are pretty forgiving and IMHO easier than a dripper or kayfun to build. Good luck and let me know how it goes.

I dunno - coil heads last me about 1 week exactly. I buy them for $1.25 each - that' about $5/month. If I liked tinkering and was looking to do this for a hobby, that would be fine, but I barely have time for the after work/weekend chores as it is, so considering the nominal cost of just buying replacements, I can't see myself ever doing this.

Been vaping for ~2 months. Started with an ego knockoff, quickly bought 2 1300mAh Vision Spinners, a pro tank II, 2 iSmoka BCC Megas, and recently a splitfire tank. I just finished my first rebuild about an hour ago and it took probably 5 minutes. I watched maybe 2 videos on the rebuild process last week, took apart an old head to familiarize myself this past weekend, and it was seriously a walk in the park. PT2 head, 32g kanthal, 3mm silica wick, and I don't know why I didn't start doing it earlier. The heads from kanger only last about 3 days for me, and I'm not abusive to them at all. I run about 3.5v for a verified 2.2ohm coil (relatively conservative IMO). I was buying the 2.2ohm and I'd always test them before I put them in and fired them up. Half the time i'd get ~1.6ohm, the other half I'd get ~2.7ohm (it was worse with the "1.8ohm" coils from kanger). They just weren't consistent enough for me and I didn't want to keep buying them if they weren't what they were supposed to be. So for the price of a 5 pack of coils, I got 125ft of kanthal and 25ft wick (killer deal if you ask me). I also don't have any nasty taste coming from the atomizer anymore either.

Started rebuilding a few months ago after picking up a Kayfun Lite. Tried vamping the Kayfun out of the box and was extremely dissapointed. After doing more research and figuring out how to rebuild the coils i love my Kayfun. As of now i have tried a cotton chimney micro coil with 3mm kanthal at about 8 wraps. That metered at 1.8 ohms. Also did a double strand navy nest with 28 gage kanthal that metered at 1.2 ohms, but my MVP 2 had trouble really firing that coil consistently well. So far my sweet spot is 1.8 ohms. I have also used bio wick which I like equally as well as organic cotton. Rebuilding the coils is getting easier, as with anything, practice makes perfect.

started a thread last night to get some help building a dual coil for kanger ptIII and aerotank. have only been vaping clearomizers and tanks since black friday 2013. only took a couple days to convince myself to quit smoking cigs. disposables weren't the answer i needed. now with 35 t3s, protankII, two aeros, and a couple aro II pyrex(evod style) i build coils as a hobby. everything tastes great here using cotton. looking forward to adding a kayfun lite plus, and some kind of dripping atomizer. may try a hh.357. p.busardo uses one for all his juice reviews. a vamo v5 opened my eyes from egos as much as cotton did. also want to add a zna30 when more are available. i like the built in protection before i go sub ohm. it all boils down to a wick and a wire and i am having a blast not smoking.

Yeah, I'm hooked on rebuilding. Here is my first coil, made yesterday. I've been vaping for 3 weeks.

My 30 guage kanthal wire arrived today and i have all the tools needed to start building coils. Im just missing the cotton. Ive checked at CVS, walmart and other local stores for organic cotton and cant seem to find it. They all have 100% pure cotton but im not sure if thats the same. I read about how people pick it up at local pharmacies. Is there a difference between these and organic cotton? i dont want to buy it to find out there is. Its cheap enough, ill just order it.

But i can still start building coils and testing ohms! i cant wait

been vaping for almost 7 weeks now. started with rebuildables from the get go. actually i started vaping with a diy'd box mod that i made (pics in my album), and never ever considered trying anything that wasn't rebuildable. i guess building mods and playing with different coils and wicks helped me get off of cigarettes as much as vaping has.
