Hi everyone,

I was finally able to quit smoking and have been vaping exclusively for over 3 weeks. I have a few worries though. I vape very heavily pretty much all day when I am able to and usually at 18 mg nic sometimes 12 but I haven't had any problems vaping 18mg all day. I prefer VG liquids and have been vaping alien visions juice almost exclusively all though I have some other 50/50 juices as long as there is a high enough VG content I am happy. I'm worried about VG to be honest and I noticed a few threads here discussing some possible health risks and I don't know if I should switch to PG or what. I did notice when I vaped the 50/50 for a whole day my face started to feel weird and my muscles ached, so I like to stay at mostly VG. I just prefer vg because it is smoother and thicker vapor and is more satisfying. But I was also thinking if there is alot more vapor then that means there is alot more "stuff" going into my lungs and I was worried that might end up being harmful? The other thing I saw mentioned was that VG has the possibility of breaking down into a poisonous substance if heated too much. And I vape on a KGO using a 1.5 ohm 510 atomizer for dripping, and that's the only way I do it, I don't use cartos or anything else. I don't really know what to do because I'm really happy vaping VG and don't crave cigarettes at all when I do so it would be difficult to switch to PG since that's what I started with a couple months ago and couldn't quit using it. I also know there is more research done on PG since VG is newer. I would appreciate if any body can put my mind at ease about vaping VG as I don't want to go back to cigarettes but I have been having serious doubts.

Thanks a lot!

Your concerns about VG and PG are mostly because there aren't any studies, right? How about I give this back to you from a different angle.

There are more studies than you have time to read about cigarettes. The conclusive evidence is that they are bad for you, dangerous and very likely will cause a premature death.

The major 'harmful' ingredient in the e-cig is Nicotine, which is analogous to caffeine. It's a stimulant, increases dopamine production in the brain and a few other things.

"Although nicotine is addictive and can be toxic if ingested in high doses, it does not cause cancer—other chemicals are responsible for most of the severe health consequences of tobacco use. Tobacco smoke is a complex mixture of chemicals such as carbon monoxide, tar, formaldehyde, cyanide, and ammonia—many of which are known carcinogens. Carbon monoxide increases the chance of cardiovascular diseases. Tar exposes the user to an increased risk of lung cancer, emphysema, and bronchial disorders." Source: National Institute on Drug Abuse

Conclusion: There is no doubt in my mind that VG, PG, Nicotine and Flavoring is much better for you than cigarettes. Hopefully this helps ease your mind a bit.

The compound you are concerned about is acrolein, which can be produced from heating VG to a high temp...but it generally also requires a catalyst, and a wet coil cannot get to the temps that is required for the reaction (dehydration of VG). In addition, while that question has been raised numerous times, if you dig a little deeper, you will see that studies on VG vapors contained no acrolein...the conditions are simply not conducive for its production.

Besides, you would so know it was formed, as it is a very strong irritant to mucus membranes...commonly called a lacrymator, or tear agent. It takes very minute quantities to be detected by the nose.

I have been vaping 100% or close to 100% VG juices for 3 years now. the most I get is a bit of phlegm, but nothing compared to smoking. I would say with confidence that if you don't think VG is doing you harm, then it almost certainly is not. PG dries me out mercilessly, and also makes my mouth sore, probably from its metabolite, which is lactic acid, the same compound that is produced and makes muscles sore. It will also upset my stomach, keep me from sleeping well, and eventually give me mouth sores. VG does none of this. People call this effect of PG an "allergy". It si NOT an allergy, it is a chemical dehydration and reaction. Allergies are an immune system response to an antigen, like pollen or cat dander. this is straight up chemical property. It would be as if you put some concentrated acid on you and you get a blister, and calling that an allergy to the acid. Some blister to acid easily, some not as much. Same with PG and its dehydrating effects.

One word of caution, however, and that is the power you are vaping at. Your KGO is probably about 4.2V fresh, and with a 1.5 ohm atty, that makes about 12 watts of vaping power, and over 2 amps of current. You may be putting too much strain on the battery, and also the atty, and could damage either, or the switch. I like 2.2 ohm Boge cartos on my KGO. Nice thick vapor, good flavor, easy to clean. Just a suggestion.

But I would not worry about vg at all.
