I was having troubles Thursday night and posted a bunch of questions. Good answers and help from everyone. It took a full tank to break in and then flavor was good til I used some juice that was probably to sweet and messed up that coil this afternoon. Almost three days and the flavor/vapor was as good as I've ever experienced. Put in a new coil and same thing almost a full tank before getting any flavor and I figured I'd ask what u guys are doing. I appreciate the help! Thanks!
My ritual is to put a couple drops on each wicking hole and watch it get drawn up into the coil. Then a couple drops into the center of the coil onto the screen. I use a needle tip bottle for all this. Then the coil gets screwed into the base, tank filled, a few primer puffs with no power and then let it sit for like ten minutes. I'll be vaping on something else in the meantime...than I'll start out at like 7 watts, and take some short pulls. There seems to be an off taste for me for about five pulls or so, then it settles down, till about half a tank when the flavor really settles in and becomes stable. Then I will slowly up the power to about eight watts, but I don't rush to do that.

Oh, I've always been a Tootle Puffer with delusions of Chuckle Snortdom.

(I like Chuckle Snorter better than Mod Whomper. Bullseyeing Whomp Rats... Whomping Willow... Mod Whomper... O RLY?)

By all mean, dahlink. Go into the MW thread and tell them of their new names.

We'll be here with bandages and cold cloths. And your adult beverage of choice.

I did throw that out there in a locked thread ages ago... nobody rose to the bait.

Yup, takes about a tank or 2 MLS vape before getting any flavor never had one start stong, no burned taste and I'm getting vapor but no flavor then at about 2 mls flavor starts to come on and all is good. I'm at the point on my current tank where flavor is just coming in vaguely. I will give thethe thumb over the air hole trick a try and going lower watts and work up.
I don't have a kabuki (yet lol) but I do have 3 nautilus mini's. I prefer the 1.6 ohm vertical cotton coils. I cut up a paper towel into smaller pieces, dampen a piece with hot water, and wipe off a new coil on the outside (making sure I don't get the wick wet, lightly moistened paper towel), then twist a corner of the dampened paper towel and wipe out the inside of the coil chimney making sure not to press against the screen. The theory being just like a new tank the metal may have machining fluid residue on it that can affect flavor. Then I do as you and others, a couple of drops of juice on the center and the outside wick holes, fill the tank, take a few dry pulls and let sit 10 minutes. Another few dry pulls and start at lower power, I typically vape at 8W. My flavors are good after just a few hits, maybe 5 or 10. :)

I do things similar to you. However, I also take a few "pulls" on a full tank with my thumb over the air inlet. It then seems like after a puff or two the taste is fine.

So, for what it's worth, Before I even put the coil in the base, I soak that sucker good with the liquid... I mean SOAK it... then hold the coil in a paper towel, blow into it to clear the extra juice... THEN put it in the base, fill your tank and go. They need to be SATURATED to work really well.

There is only one other thing that I can think of...

Perhaps try boiling them first, followed by a good rinse and air dry.

You may be chasing some of the manufacturing artifacts?!?

Jim

Yeah, I don't like the flavor of the cotton AFTER boiling... tastes like a wet dog smells. Yechy... nasty. Not for me...

what, what?? You break in your coils using low wattage? I just put some drops on the side intakes, one in the center and let it sit for 5 minutes...and then proceed to hit it straight away with my shockingly high 14w :headbang:......no issues in taste or anything else....I use the 1.8 coils.
