So Cal
The "all cotton" Aspire K1 BVC I just washed a couple of minutes under hot tap water in an attempt to get rid of the ugly taste.
As mentioned I did not dry it. I just blew out the water befor reinstalling it into the K1.
Still have to try if presoaking a fresh "all cotton" BVC in 70% ethanol works to get rid of this taste.

With my modified K1 BVC I just remove the old cotton wick, rinse the coil head in hot tap water and blow it out briefly.
Then I make I dry burn and rewick it with cotton. This way it tastes like a new one.
Usually, I prepare rewicked coils in advance and soak them at least a couple of hours in PG/VG.
I have the impression that it's better to soak the fresh cotton wicks for some time in PG/VG before I use them.
Therefore I always have a couple of rewicked coils presoaked in PG/VG without flavour in a small minigrip bag. Often they sit there for weeks.
Rewicking the coils 3-4 times usually works without problems.
With my non-NET liquids I change the cotton wick every 1-2 weeks. So one coil usually lasts for at least one month.

You might want to try soaking in near boiling water for several hours, it usually breaks up the gunk in mine.

So Cal
I ordered some BVC coils the other day from MFS.

I have no other BVC coils to compare them to.

These are for the Nautilus.

Any way I can tell if they are cotton or not besides just pulling one apart?

Thanks

Eric

I wouldn't ruin a brand new one. Just wait till its burned up and autopsy it!

I must have missed a post or something. Can someone tell me where there is info on the Aspire Nautilus BVC and Aspire BVC's now being made with cotton and perhaps provide a link?

I've seen that the bigger holes most certainly do not indicate so and a lot of speculation about Aspire intending to change the BVC's.

I've seen that the Aspire Atlantis coils have changed.

Thanks!

within my own thoughts....
When i first bought my Nautilus mini, it came with one installed and an extra one. I fell in love with my new tank and the awesome vape i was getting. However, after several weeks...i needed new coils. So i went to my local B&M and i'm now guessing the new coils was out by this time. So i purchased 2 at that time and then after having major flooding issues....so bad that the juice was not spitting through the mouthpiece, but coming out into my mouth with each puff.

Not wanting to give up just yet on my awesome new tank, i thought it had to be bad coils doing this. So i went and purchased a 1.6, since the new 1.8's had larger holes than the previous ones. Well, i put the new 1.6 in today and it's doing the same thing! :(

I'm so frustrated because i'm still a newbie and i don't know how to build my own coils yet, so since my nautilus isn't 30 days old yet, i'm taking it back and plan on exhanging it for a Kanger....all because the new BVC coils just suck!

This might help, Ky. I very occasionally get some gurgling/flooding and these techniques work. I also know I'm using genuine Aspire coils. It could be your supplier got some clones (in error). It's only clone coils where I've had problems.....with my Kangers. Box and coil head looks identical.

I'm not sure if that thread mentions it, but I've found that when things get funky -- it is good to remove the coil head and clean out the "bottom cap" as some liquid ends up in there and somehow mucks up the works.

Hi tearose and i was wondering about the clone issue. However, they was sealed in the foil on the back of the packaging. So can they be clones and still have the sealed Aspire pkg?

Also, the reason i know it's the coils and not what i am doing or not doing, is because i've went through 3 brand new one's and each of them did the exact thing....i wish it was a coincidence and/or fixable, believe me...i will now chase that awesome vape i got when i first bought it.

I just received a 5 pack of the new cotton BVCs for the K1 from FT.
Having one of the coils disassembled I'm sure that there are only small cotton pads inside.
Why would Aspire change the regular BVC to cotton but apparently not the Nautilus BVC:

My opinion, I don't think the material has changed. Rubbing between the fingers it felt the same. But the material from the big hole coil did seam to be harder to pull a part, but really not sure. I've always heard it was a running change, may be mine still used the older wicking material (luck of draw).

So much confusion!

Well --- because it's the "hot" new product. Sub Sub Sub for Jan/Feb 2015. They don't want to lose that new customer base to the competition right out of the starting gate.

I have a feeling the Aspire people are back from holiday and working overtime to come up with a good solution......and it is not announced as it hasn't fully occurred. Once again we are broad scale beta testers.

Oh -- I so understand. I see you have had several people working with you on this on another thread. I'm inclined to think it's a bad batch of coils. I've had clones that look identical -- and were not worth the discounted price to me AT ALL. Just know, it will get better...again.

Mysterious things happen. After several months, I had one tank decide to leak on me and after attempts to amend, I eventually I just decided it must be worn out. Afterall, this stuff is not made to last forever. Month's later after I broke the replacement , I had some time available and decided to give it one last whirl before throwing away. That was over 2 months ago and it's working great. As I'm no rocket scientist, I have no idea why my earlier fixes did not work.

Aspire stated prior to the Chinese New Year that they had switched to all cotton due to fears over their ceramic wicking material. They've been available for over 2 weeks in the USA. The problem is that the new OC coils are in identical packaging with no distinction whatsoever from the ceramic wicked coils. If you think of it from a business standpoint it is smart... if they repackaged the OC coils or marked them as such, retailers would be stuck with them because we'd all buy the OC coils. Aspire is protecting their retailers and wholesalers!

Could you or someone please provide a link with that data from Aspire? I have not seen it, though I have looked for it at official Aspire places.

I added the quote to my earlier post to help not create even more confusion on this thread. Sorry, it was intended as an in-sequence response. Your's slipped in while I was composing. Sorry for adding more confusion to this somewhat confusing thread.

I wrote Aspire USA after the rumors started and I can tell you this is what the replied with on 2/9/15:

The new cotton coils have been released about 2 weeks ago. All coils produced from that point and into the future will be full cotton coils. The packaging will be the same and you will not be able to determine the difference from the outer appearance. You would need to take it apart and look at the internal components. If this shipment is a recent shipment it is the full cotton coils for Aspire's Atlantis tank.

Thanks,
AspireUSA Team

Thank you very much. I had seen that and understand the ATLANTIS coils have been changed.

To quote the title of the thread: Anymore news on Aspire changing to cotton wicks on there BVC colils?

There are vapers that would like to know about NAUTILUS BVC and ASPIRE BVC (for K1?, ViviNova, Billet Bridge and several other toppers) and all three types have been referred to earlier on this thread. Is there any links or communications with Aspire regarding the changing of these coils? That is what I asked about several posts ago---here: http://www.e-cigarette-forum.com/forum/clearomizers/644086-anymore-news-aspire-changing-cotton-wicks-there-bvc-colils-7.html#post15335006.

(I do suggest that in the future the ATLANTIS BVC coils should be discussed as ATLANTIS OC coils or ATLANTIC OC BVC Coils......not just BVC. We've had BVC coils for several months for other attys and have needed to say Nautilus BVC and Aspire BVC or Aspire BVC (not Nautilus) to differentiate when discussing and for buying!)

I would assume that it they are changing from the ceramic wicks to cotton in the Atlantis that they are doing the same for the nautilus, as the coils are very similar in construction. Perhaps you should write Aspire USA at wholesale@uvaper.com regarding if they've done the same with the Nauty BVCs.
