I have a feeling this has been discussed in other places but I haven't come across it yet in my searches - does anyone else secretly wish that maybe a different word would come into vogue as an alternative to "vape" and "vaping"?

I'm trying to get my pack-a-day husband to see the light and at least give vaping a try, but I think a combination of things, including the fact that it's called "vaping", is making him pretty disinterested. I can't even say it to other people, to be honest, it just sounds, well, weird. Maybe it's because it's foreign-sounding from the world of smoking vocabulary.

Anyone ever refer to it as "puffing" instead? I'm not totally wild about that one either, but it sounds more cig-related, since people do puff on cigarettes. Of course if you think about that and associate it with powder puffs, that doesn't sound wildly masculine either. :)

Anyway, I just wanted to see if anyone has a few fun alternative words they use to describe what we are doing. I think I saw someone refer to it as fogging, which was kind of interesting. I told my husband I was fake smoking, so he calls it "faking", but I doubt that's one many people would want to use.

Any thoughts?
You could call it inhaling that is in the smoking vocabulary. But the devices are called (which I think is weird) personal vaporizers. I like the term inhilators. JMO

I don't feel weird saying vape, because I refuse to say that. I say I'm vaporizing. Which has the benefit of...you know...actually being a real word that describes what we're doing.

Well, if you want to be that semantical about it, you're actually not vaporizing... you're inhaling.
The atomizer is vaporizing the liquid.

I'm just saying.
:)

But you're right ... at least it's a real word.

This thread is hysterically funny and hopelessly juvenile. OK, my picks:

Girls insufflate.

Thank you, Aubergine. It's accurate, sophisticated and deliciously French. You all may vape, I shall insufflate, from now on.

Boys fogg.

Thank you Yano_jl and Darrigaaz. You fogg!

Madame X, do you concur?

Hmmm...I am quite fascinated by the word insufflate, I had never seen it before. It's pretty cool, but doesn't exactly roll off my tongue with ease. I think fogging is a good alternative, but when I think of fogging, I think of those poisonous D-Con or Raid foggers for pests (I'm sure most people don't think of those automatically, so I think it's still a good alternative word, but just one I probably won't adopt). I am leaning most toward "puffing" right now, but still would love to hear more words people might be using or think would be fun- silly- or cool-sounding.

And while I haven't yet decided on what to call the act of doing it yet (I am comfortable referring to the actual PVs as 'vaporizers' - it's accurate and doesn't sound unhealthy), but I have, I believe, found the absolute best word *NOT* to call it under any circumstances - I looked up synonyms for the word "inhale" and came across this little gem: "ingurgitate."

Ewwwwww! I will *never* tell someone how much I am loving "ingurgitating."
