Ran by Wally World yesterday and sure enough, they had a full stock of AR rifles. What would be the best choice. Colt @~$1500, Diamondback or Windham under $900? They didn't have any Sig made. Not familiar with Diamondback and have heard Windham is the previous owner of Bushmaster.
When me and my step dad go hunting I use his modified AR-15 (pic rails ...) since I feel lighter and faster with it than he is with his 270.
For enthusiast style shooting, I have two relatively modern firearms in my own safe:
a 5" .357 Chiappa Rhino and a .40 Beretta Px4 Storm.
The Rhino i'm still getting used too, but the Beretta is solid.

My vote would be: Build your own.
I spent $800 on my first AR-15 (A DPMS). I then spent another $500 customizing it.
I'm currently building another AR-15. Total cost will be $800, and it will be EXACTLY the way I want it, and with top quality parts throughout.
I got a RRA 16" flattop mid length, $750 had to get lower, then upper, but it's bone stock but it does plenty good

Got a good source for high quality parts online? That sure would be easier than buying the whole gun online. Would then only have to get the receiver shipped to local store.
I did go to another Walmart today and Colt for $1495 was a M4A1 (hate those sharp metal hand guards). They had a Colt M4 for $1197, Windham, Diamondback and Bushmaster all in the mid $800 range. So that is now two in my area (and we about 5 in under 20 miles driving) with good stock of guns.
But I agree, building would get all the items I want probably cheaper. Need to look around more and see. I would love to buy from a local gun store, but most all of them act like they don't want to help you and have prices jacked too much. I expect crappy service at Walmart and pleasantly surprised (rarely) if I get good service, but a specialty store should be smart and treat all customers like gold in todays online market.
I have purchased my parts from a variety of online locations like Palmetto State, Midway, Natchez, Brownells. Even bought some parts from the "for sale" section of some of the gun forums.
I research what I want for my build, and then price all various online stores for the best price. I have all my parts except the lower receiver- I purchased an alloy one with custom engraving from Blackhole Weaponry, and am just waiting for it to be shipped to my FFL.

That is funny, I was just looking at Palmetto State Armory. They are about an hour and a half drive from me. But it is a freakn state line crossing so still have to deal with sending it back to a Ga gun store. Crap.
Yeah, building's the way to go if you want the most bang for your buck.
I've considered a Del-Ton lower, (with custom engraving), and a CMMG upper.
I've just never bought em, though. I seem to spend all my gun money on Kalashnikovs.

I like CMMG and Model 1 for AR kits. My personal rifle has a Spike's Tactical 14.5" upper on a laser engraved GeorgiaCarry.Org Double Star lower. The upper came from Aim Surplus, which has great deals when they've got stock.
Guns and vaping are my two main hobbies. Really started collecting guns 4 years ago. Just started vaping two months ago. A few of the collection.

I had an Ishapore Enfield in .308 NATO...parkerized the dang thing top to bottom...sold it to get outta debt with over 700 rounds of battlepack ammo...waaaaaaaaaaaah

Thanks. She's not my favorite, but the Chicom AK's are distinctive, and I had to have one in my modest collection.

Is that the tip of a 20mm round sitting next to the drink cap? I have a few 20mm and 30mm deac rounds. I collect odd and unusual ammo too. Have some 120mm tank sabot rounds and a few other interesting items. But my favorite is my 50 caliber naval round. Amazing how many argument I get when I show people a 50 cal round that is almost my height and almost big around as my leg. They don't get it can be a ratio and not just a size.

Damn big pen...haha...I guess not since the ecig isn't that big. Scale through me off. I will have to remember to post one of mine rounds so you see why I think that. The little color change at the tip and all.
Has anyone made a bullpup rifle? If a misfire wouldn't land through my face that would be mostly what I would own, between that and the awkward reload feel when standing compared to normal rifles..
