Anyone else the target of teasing??

I get teased incessantly about using my e - cig.

Especially from my old smoking work buddies. People call bull..... on me when I go to join them outside for a smoke and I pull out my e-cig. Some folk dont want to be seen with me.

I get told to stay away from them with my 'toy cigarette'.

Even my non smoking mates give me a hard time.

I am from Australia where bagging out your mates as hard as you can is expected but still.....I feel so small and have no comebacks....sniff....

Anyone else get a good teasing.

That's what vaping does. It separates the men from the boys. You being a man of course. Behave like one.

If it shows that it bothers you, they'll keep at it. Best thing to do is keep it from bothering you. When people see mine, I don't react. I tend to be walking and vaping, so I don't get approached much. I haven't had occasion to use it around smokers, because I still am one. I just grab a smoke and light up.

Smoking buddies at work are probably the hardest to deal with. When they start talking smack, don't even blink. Just bring up something else that they'll want to talk about. Work is probably the best topic. Try holding off bringing up some things until it's smoke break time. If there's something to gossip about or something that happened outside of work, bring that up. If they don't get under your skin, they'll lose interest.

Yep, have had a bit of ridicule and foo foo at work from a couple of smokers.

Just a bit of jealousy I suspect.

I get some of that at my job. I work in a warehouse doing grunt-labor. I just respond that they aren't intelligent enough to work one of these new-fangled gadgets. LOL

Yep, get teased all the time by the other guys in the office. I was the only smoker and got teased all the time about going outside for cig breaks, now I get teased for staying at my desk and puffing out clouds of toffee smelling vapour. I give back as good as I get, and keep right on vapin'

Personally I would come back with something like "I'm sorry I just decided cancer wasn't for me" but that would depend on how well I know a person. On the other hand I don't deal with it too much unless I'm hanging out with a few of my friends who like to joke around about how strange the REO looks but not a whole lot more than that so I havent really experienced too much teasing.

Hey. Out of curiosity... I saw Australia on the list of "e cigs are illegal" there page.

Can you buy stuff there? I'm guessing no domestic vendors? What's the deal?

Next time your "friends" start giving you a hard time, ask them what a pack of smokes costs? And how much they spend every month on "real" cigarettes to choke down over 3,000 chemicals.

That or tell them that since you started vaping that the strength in your legs has really improved. Then kick them in the Nuts to prove it.

Maybe you need to give your mates better nicknames? Wheezy would be a good start to naming them all out as the 7 smoking dwarves. Of course you go that route you'd have to be comfortable with Snow White as a nickname...

Nobody would dare; but if they did I'd tease them back in some way that would be embarrassing. Plus, I think I look totally chic with my color-coordinated XL 808D-1 batteries. And you know how it goes -- if you think you look good, it shows and others think you look good too!

If they give you much static, remind them that analogs cause impotence.

Got the brunt of that for a few months. Then winter hit, and we'd meet at the local restaurant, and the smokers would head outside in the cold, sleet and/or snow for a cig. I'd take out my e-cig and say, "You all have fun out there," and then I'd take a puff.

I blogged something similar to this a while back. Since I don't smoke, should I say "At least I'm not blowing vapor up your ...!"

I don't catch a whole lot of flack from anyone. I get some strange looks and the occasional "Does that thing really work?" Well, let's see. Nine months, no cigarettes...yeah, I'd say it works. Come talk to me whenever you're ready to stop smelling like an ashtray.

Yup, "toy cigarette", "fake smoke", "play smoking", etc. I blow it off and just hand out my ECF and my supplier's cards when other co-workers ask me about them. It evens out when I realize that the smoking area at my work is slowly turning into a vaping area. Soon we'll outnumber 'em!
