I had been exposed to e-cigs by a few acquaintances back in 2009 or so, but was unimpressed with the tech and dismissed it. Earlier this year a friend of mine was developing a story which hinged on an e-cig malfunction. As I am his officially designated fiction BS detector, I started researching e-cigs, which brought me here to ECF among other places. The growth of this technology was amazing to me, and the more I researched, the more I wanted to buy one. I figured it would be a toy, but might help me cut down on the mindless smoking that I do when working at the computer or driving long distances. I was averaging 30 cigarettes a day.

I ordered a KGo kit that came with tobacco flavored juices at 24-26mg (high) nicotine. My girlfriend and I played around with them the first night, and I became violently ill (gastro) a few hours later. I don't know if it was the high nicotine or the high PG concentration (80%) in those juices, and I probably never will, as I immediately ordered a bunch of 12mg 100% VG, and some 12mg PG 20/ VG 80 juices.

The day after those arrived, I smoked only 10 real cigs. A week later I had 1. That was the last one. It was only ten days ago, but keep in mind that I had no intention of quitting. This was to be a $50 toy. I'm quite surprised, and feel quite lucky.

My girlfriend was shocked when I revealed this to her. She has wanted to quit for a year and was only down from 20 to 10 a day a few days ago. It turns out she was using 4mg juice so she was in constant nicotine withdrawal. I loaded her up with some 12mg and 8mg and now she's down to 1-2 per day.

I really think that for many (not all, obviously), once you find the right nic level, juice mix, and equipment, you'll stop smoking pretty much without effort.

Trying that and it appears to be working. I guess I'll use clearos on my manual (1 X2 and 1 78mm) and cartos on my automatic (also 1+1.) It's probably a lot less annoying if I'm not worried about my batteries. And I found a comment that I should always lay it down on its side, that also seems to help.

Couple of suggestions you might want to try: the Vision Vivi Nova - I don't know whether to call it a tank or a clearo, or maybe a little of both. AFAIK it's only available with 510 threading but adapters are available for around $3 each. These things do not leak, they come with 3 replaceable atomizers at different resistance ratings, and the attys are both replaceable and simple to rebuild (if you care to get into that). They're about $15 each from GotVapes. The other suggestion is their Vision CE4+ "Stardust", also from GotVapes. The reason I'm suggesting this vendor is there appear to be lots of inferior "Stardust" knockoffs available; the real Vision CE4+ "Stardust" clearos aren't known for leaking issues, and the only vendors I know of who carry them are GotVapes & Discount Vapers.

Hope this is useful. Happy Vaping! :vapor:

My experience so far.

Me - Quit after the first vape. Never looked back. Couldn't believe how well it went. The E-Cigs fulfilled all physical and physiological needs.

My Dad - Got him a kit after I had mine for a few days. He WAS a 44 year smoker. Heavy cigarettes at an average of 25 a day. He has no desire to go back and is really pleased by all of the advantages to not smoking anymore. He's happy he doesn't have to carry a lighter or make planned stops to buy more packs. He's over joyed that his life doesn't revolve around smoking anymore, for instance, trying to pound back a cigarette in the parking lot of the grocery store.

My Mom - Same story more or less as my Dad but she's only been clean a few days. Her kit just arrived but she's enjoying it. She likes the light cherry smell of the liquid she's using. Again it's the little things she's keeps talking about. No more stinky ash trays in the garage. No more telling my step-dad to pull over when they go on a drive so she can have a smoke every hour.

One of my friends - I donated my EGO - C kit to him as he came over this weekend. He was here for lunch and I got him vaping. He really didn't want to go back to cigs after spending 5 hours here so I hooked him up with everything he needed to get started. On Tuesday he went to work and his battery died. He didn't have the extra on him and he bummed a few cigs to get through the day. Had no real desire to do so but we all know what the cravings are like. He learned his lesson on planning ahead as it does take planning ahead to be successful. Most of us are one failed atomizer or dead battery away from buying a pack of cigs.

At the end of the day I like not being a slave to the cigarettes. No more pulling over to smoke on road trips. No more lighters and ashtrays. No more finding some out of the way place to smoke in front of the pub and feeling ashamed of doing it. No more smelling like an old cigarette. No more shame. These things keep me going.
