i have got to sample one seller's licorice and much i was anticipating a good full-bodied anise, i was sadly disappointed. i thought licorice would be fairly recognisable as it has such a bold unique flavour that masks everything it touches and im a bit of a fan but with this i can barely taste a thing all. im going to end up spiking it with some rum essence possibly. did i just get a bad batch or is that case all round ? anyone ever try it ?

definitely didn't turn bertie.

fennel eh ? might try this one. i wonder who else sells it. i figure a lot of it comes from the same pot.

interesting fact from a random web-site i dont know whether to believe:
"90% of the licorice used as a flavoring is used to flavor tobacco. Licorice candy contains small amounts of licorice, but the main flavor ingredient of licorice candy is anise."

I remember reading somewhere that most US cigarette blends have licorice in their "casing", the liquid they spray shredded tobacco with, along with god knows how many other things as the flavouring. Not enough to notice on it's own I guess.

So where are all those licorice flavored cigarettes??

I used to smoke roll ups with licorice paper.I got some licorice from Janty. It didn't taste like anything, apart from a bit of sweetness. Really disappointing considering what a strong flavor licorice is. Maybe I got a bad bottle?

sounds like my experience. i imagine its the same gick. so janty do a licorice and a fennel ?
and thanks wansbeck, i'll check out simons too. hopefully its a different kind of licorice.

I have tried Wicked licorice as well. I'm working my way through the whole Wicked product line, and licorice is the only disappointment so far. It has a slight taste of licorice root (and has no resemblance to licorice candy). The taste of licorice root is quite nice, but it has an aftertaste which i find unpleasant.
