One of my best friends had to dump a girl simply because she couldn't keep her hands off other people's bikes. He's a big guy but you can only 'fight for her' so many times before you have accept that she 'just aint gettin' it' and you're better off moving on to brighter pastures... She was a real piece of work! One day they went for a ride... and he came back alone. I hope she likes that farm. :D

from the Zombie Survival Guide
topics; Recorded Attacks 1962, Unidentified Town, Nevada, USA

This is according to yellowed newsprint & fragments of secondhand eyewitness accounts:
A local farmer & 3 hired hands were attacked during a small outbreak of zombies. A subsequent investigation determined 3 men were slain and the 4th took his own life. The barn was more than safe from attack, and they had a supply of food & water.
The present theory is that the zombie's incessant moaning, feelings of isolation & helplessness led to psychological breakdown. This case is still "under investigation".

The Zombie Survival Guide for April First, 2011 !! Happy April Fools day! Don't be a Zombie Fool! The Zombies really ARE coming to your town!!

Anyway.. Today's topic is Defense strategies for Single Story Homes. Basically, go to the attic because Zombies lack the cognitive ability to build a ladder of their own. Don't use the basement because subterranean chambers have claimed hundreds of lives over the years due to burning, suffocating or starving to death.
(My question to this is, can't those things also happen in the attic?)

Oh well, anyway, here's a link to pictures of a partial underground house that is cool. Scroll down
on the page to see the pictures. Glenn's Underground Cabin Update

I still don't like the 2nd story idea. Maybe others could do a better job. Personally, I'm a fight or flight kind of guy. I'll fight until the odds are too out of control; then I'm out of there. I can always come back later if the area becomes safe again. Chances are that they wouldn't be going after my food stores. Perhaps some people could have found them and gotten in, but I doubt that . . . mostly since I don't have any right now. Getting there. I do the shopping this weekend.

I guess I'm thinking that whether you're underground or high above you'll need access to food & water stores. The advantage of being high up is probably obvious, it's easier to see & know what is going on.
What comes to mind is that Brendon Fraser movie "Blast from the Past" where they stayed in the bomb shelter for 30 years or something because they didn't know that the world was actually safe?

Here's a good idea for a higher-up sanctuary; http://i.imgur.com/JKiIv.jpg

I've started building one of those in my back yard. Kidding, but that would be a blast to live in!

Here's an idea that could help protect from zombies and tsunamis at the same time.

Well, since ECF was down yesterday I didn't get a chance to enter the calendar's tip of the day. You didn't miss much though. The topic was Weapons; Armor: Chain Mail, which we already discussed last week when talking about suits of armor.
Basically, it says that it does provide some protection from zombie bites, and it's flexibility allows for greater movement and speed, and it's lack of a faceplate allows for greater visibility. It also allows skin to breathe and cuts down on dehydration and overheating. But again, you need to practice in it before you're attacked!
And remember, the pressure of a zombie bite may still be strong enough to crack bones.
Bon Appetite!

While most Zombie Forums disagree with the use of chain mail, I think its a good idea. The only downside, as mentioned, is that it weighs down the wearer, making running away harder. For someone like me, who can not run anymore due to a motorcycle accident, I think it would be beneficial.

The calendar did go on to say that you have to be careful shopping for chain mail, as much of the stuff produced today is for decoration or stage only. So, perhaps you'll have to make your own...?
Sorry about your motorcycle injuries. I have an Ex who has walked away from at least 3 really awful motorcycle accidents without any significant injury. However, he's been hurt really badly 3 times in workplace mishaps. He likes to say he's still safer on his bike than he is at work!

There are some advancements with aluminum mail that are light and durable. I worked with a guy who built some . . . rather, I worked, he sat and assembled his armor. It was surprisingly light. His was only to protect the head, neck, and shoulder area from swords. I would rather protect my neck with leather though. IDK, maybe I'll start shopping to see what I can find. All I have are head/neck warmers for my bike, but neoprene might make for a light piece of armor.

Well then, I guess it will be between Freaky & Mac...whomever can trick me into being bait first will have a screaming tasty treat to offer up to the zombie hordes! Just remember that I do plan on being a SMART zombie if it comes to that. I will climb ladders, and have super running speed instead of shambling. I'm hoping to trick Mac into sharing his zombie modification software so that I can have that prepared in case of the inevitable...

No, really, it's all in fun. I really don't think that anybody has to be able to run particularly fast. I think endurance is the key. Zombies aren't going to move exceptionally fast, so it's just a matter of continuing on to get ahead of them enough to find a new safe zone.

That's why I am going to focus on a vehicle this summer. I really don't want to try to hoof it unless really needed. I saw a really nice vehicle that I would love to have. I have no idea what this thing was, but it had three wheels, each about 5 or 7 feet tall, and it was doing about 30mph through a grass field, smooth as could be, and spreading fertilizer. I know grass fields look smooth, but try taking your average truck through that, and you'll quickly find how rough it is. I tried doing a search on Google, but couldn't find it though.
