I could legitimately believe this story. Some of the other stories just seem odd. Maybe not a true zombie infection, but a very similar facilitation of a disease that caused people to go crazy with "rage" type side-effects a-la 28 Days Later.

Speaking of . . . has there been an outbreak that I didn't hear of . . . where has everybody gone?

Topic; Transportation: the Bus

These large road monsters can present as much danger to their drivers as to the living dead. Forget speed, maneuverability, fuel efficiency, off road capability, stealth or any other feature you will need to escape an infested area. A bus has none of these.

The only advantage of a bus is to be used as a mobile fortress if you're in an infested area.

Also - Happy Earth Day everyone!

Who will come? The zombies? (Hopefully not Kevin Costner.) :)

I'm only building it to live in. After the ankle-biters are out of the house, I'm on the road. There are too many things I want to see. At least, if the zombies aren't too heavy, I can drive my house to a less-populated area to make it easier to defend before having to bug out. :thumb:

Zombie Survival Guide for Sat/Sun April 23/24
Topic ; Strategies; the Tower
Find an area high above ground (tree, building, water tower, etc.) Stock this position with enough ammunition and basic supplies for a protracted battle. Once all these tasks have been accomplished, do everything you can to attract the dead. As they gather around your position, begin the slaughter. Be careful when using incendiaries, as fire may spread to the tower or smoke may become a health risk.

I love the tower idea! In my dream plan there would be a chain link/sheet metal corridor on the ground with a zip line back-up in case it's breached with a reverse slope to prevent climbing. I think a nice 30' perimeter around the base should be okay but 50' per side would allow for a larger tower with multiple sentries. Placed about 100' from the outer perimeter fence should allow for some back-up from the compound walls if a surge threatens the corridor 'home'. Fire is an overall last resort since it tends to go in the exact opposite direction you want it too... :D

Zombie Survival Guide for Monday April 25th.
Topic; Public Spaces; Piers & Docks
With slight modifications and adequate supplies, any dock or pier could be made unreachable. Since zombies cannot swim or climb (supposedly)... they could only stand over on the beach moaning & waving at you.
Destroy the access points and you'd have your own artificial island. (A boat may be helpful...)

Yes, that is my worry too. They don't need air to breathe right? And, assuming they're fairly mindless, what's to stop them from walking/crawling right into the water. We need to determine for certain their skills as far as climbing & water travel are concerned, or I'm not going to be able to sleep.

I look at it like this, the arms work for grabbing and pulling but the legs can't coordinate with the arms for climbing something difficult like a tree or ladder. So long as there's a vertical height higher than their head, they shouldn't be able to climb it without some something for their legs to gain purchase on. Ramp yes, vertical face, no. Probably need a ramp around 45 degrees or less so they don't perpetually slide back down. Does that help?

topic Transportation; Motor Vehicles/fuel consumption
Gas stations may be few & far between. Chances are those you find will already be drained.
You will need to know the exact mileage of your vehicle & pack it with extra fuel, and plan your exact route knowing you may only get so far.
Post Infestation studies, have shown that most roads quickly become blocked by abandoned vehicles. Additional obstacles may include destroyed bridges, debris & barricades abandoned by last ditch defenders.
