assuming you can find the eyes and or there are only a couple of them? kidding. good tips techno....

I especially liked the part about picturing yourself in a safe place, but NOT thinking about any of the other bad things. I believe only a Jedi master could accomplish all that, PLUS try to find the eyes to poke out..(without thinking about it)...

Friday's Zombie Calendar tip for April 15th...Topic today is Armor; Helmets. According to the guide they serve no purpose other than obstructing vision, so unless you're in a hard hat area avoid this cumbersome waste of space.
I'm not sure if I agree. I was thinking that if you could mask the scent of your brain and make it hard to bite through, you might be able to carry on for another day...? Hmmm.

I guess it would depend on the helmet. Ye Olde jousting helmet? No way in the world I'd wear one. They're hot, cramped, pinch and you're looking through a small slit. You're a sitting duck with one of those on since you can't see or hear a zombie coming up on you. Modern military combat helmet with a clear visor? You betcha! With a full face motorcycle coming in somewhere in between. MC helmets have limited protection against multiple hits and still restrict your vision and hearing where the military helmets don't completely enclose your ears or eyes while giving pretty good protection.

Zombie Survival Guide for April 16/17 This one is another recorded attack from 121AD Fanum Cocidi, Caledonia (Scotland)

A Roman merchant named Tubero, who was traveling through this province at the time, witnessed the battle of a mad uprising. Tubero was observant enough to notice that only the decapitated zombies ceased to be a threat. Tubero reported his findings to Terentius, commander of the nearest military garrison. Terentius ordered the digging of two mile long seven foot deep ditches. The bottoms of both trenches were filled with crude oil. As the zombies approached, the oil was ignited. All ghouls falling into the trench were trapped & incinerated. Terentius ordered his men to draw swords and advance on the enemy. After a 9 hour battle, every zombie had been decapitated and cremated. The legionnaires killed any bitten comrade.

And now, for any of you still reading, I present these tips from the Worst Case Scenario book. Topic is staying safe whilst traveling, subheading; Eye Contact and Gestures to avoid...

Eye Contact: In Pakistan, staring is common. Do not be offended if someone stares at you. In Zimbabwe, do not maintain continued direct eye contact. It is considered rude, particularly in rural areas. In New York City, do not make eye contact with anyone on a subway, train or bus. Read a book or newspaper, or maintain an unfocused, nonresponsive visage to avoid incident.

Stay safe future Zombie slayers!

The Internet
I highly doubt it's being allowed to be put online, but a quick search listed a hundred such places to get it, and in all manner of formats. It's probably just not very efficient stopping everybody from posting it. I'll add this, just to help with Google searches.

The Max Brooks Zombie Survival Guide is available for free download at many sites. However, downloading it for free will prohibit the author from being able to make a living. If the author can't make a living writing books, then there will not be more fun and interesting books produced. The book only costs around $7 at various sites online, so if you have downloaded it, please pick up a copy you can carry around to read when the zombie invasion happens, and your batteries die - otherwise, you might die too.

Zombie Survival Guide Calendar for April 19th
Topic is the Voodoo Zombie

Voodoo zombies recognize their surroundings.
Unlike real zombies, who only recognize prey, voodoo zombies will react to sudden changes in light, sound, taste, and smell.
Voodoo zombies have been observed watching television or brightly flashing lights, listening to music, cringing at thunder, and even taking notice of one another.
This last fact has been critical in several cases of mis-identification. Had the zombies in question not reacted to each other (they looked at each other, made noises, even touched each other’s faces), they might have been accidentally exterminated.

So, I wonder now what VooDoo Zombies would watch on TV. Housewives of "whatever" city? Jersey Shore? Political talking heads?

Topic=Group size
A large group may be good when you're on the defense, but when traveling through zombie territory, large numbers may increase your chances of being detected.

Larger groups also impede mobility, you'll only go as fast as your slowest members.

Of course, traveling solo has its problems as well. Security, reconnaissance, and, naturally, sleep would all be hampered if someone tried to “go it alone.”

The ideal group is 3, but 4-10 would still be OK.

Three members allow mutual protection in hand-to-hand fighting, dispersion of guard duty at night, and the ability of two members to carry an injured third for short periods of time.

I'd suggest that if you have a group of 6+ to split up into smaller groups for travel and 'leap-frog' your movements. This works best if you have some means of communication between the groups so you can exchange information if needed and set up a mutual campsite at night. It increases your scouting abilities for foraging as well as defense.

Topic; Recorded Attacks; 1947 A.D., JARVIE, BRITISH COLUMBIA
Mathew Morgan, a local hunter returned to town one night with a mysterious bite on his shoulder.
By dawn of the next morning, twenty-one zombies were prowling the streets of Jarvie.
Nine individuals were completely consumed. The remaining fifteen humans barricaded
themselves in the sheriff’s office.
A plan was hatched to crawl out to the roof,
make it to the telephone-telegraph office, and signal the authorities in Victoria.
The survivors made it halfway across the street when the nearby
ghouls noticed them and gave chase.
One member of the group, Regina Clark armed only with a
U.S. M1 carbine, led the zombies into a blind alley.

With cool aim and an astounding reload time, Clark dispatched the entire mob.

Even more astounding is that the first zombie she dispatched was her own husband.

what a great excuse to get rid of an unwanted spouse.....

"but..but...i swear judge, killing him as justified. He was a total zombie!"

LOL, yes, that is just what I thought. She was a pretty good shooter too. Prepare much?
(also, I like the use of the word "dispatched"... as if she just mailed him a package)
