So far, I have agreed with what the calendar has been saying, but this one, I can not get behind.
.....
The home front plan, depending on where you live, is an OK plan for the beginning, but for long term zombie survival, you will need a secured compound.

I agree. You know, I've been wondering if some of the information in the daily guide is meant to misguide some of the sheeple? Thereby making more food & resources available to the elite survivors...Could Mac be behind this? Recruiting for his hybrids via a snazzily packaged calendar ?

I agree with today's entry . . . in part. I would replace with a narrow pole ladder and fire pole for going down, but I would focus more energy on fortifying the exterior of the building.

It would take a minimal amount of time to fashion one in an emergency, but destroying the staircase could take ample amounts of time that would be better served elsewhere.

You could purchase a nice (and overly priced) folding one like this (which would be nice to tuck away near the stairs and pull up with you when you are securely on the 2nd floor), or just grab some wood and twine and whip this baby out:

I am in no way shape or form affiliated with any calender makers. (now where did I put that royalty check?)

People! Anyone with bedrooms on the second floor or higher should have an escape ladder of some sort!!! There is a much more likely chance of fire (than zombies anyway) blocking your first floor exit or staircase leading down due to the smoke or heat. If you have a 2nd or higher floor, at least invest in a rope ladder for each bedroom for normal safeties sake and DRILL with them. This isn't something very important to me and should be to you all as well. Wood, rope, aluminum, whatever you want, but have SOMETHING!

$35 plus shipping and 13' long and easily attaches to your window frame.

No, I've just walked through a children's burn ward before. It's not something you easily forget no matter how hard hearted you think you are. The important thing is to just get the ladders if you live above the first floor and to make sure that any bars you put on your windows can be unlocked from the inside. Don't let your house become a permanent prison!

Zombie Guide for the Weekend, March 5-6
topic: "On the Run"

Where exactly are you headed?
Too often, people have abandoned their fortifications to wander aimlessly and hopelessly.
Without a fixed destination in mind, the chances of surviving the journey are slim.
Use your radio to discover the nearest haven.

Always have a backup destination, in case the first is overrun.
Unless constant communication is maintained, you may arrive to find a gathering of zombies waiting hungrily at the finish line.

It doesn't mention it - but I'd add - Use A Map ...

Heh, maybe we need an itenerary. Something like "Around the world in Zombie days" or "End of the World Tour!" so we can hit all the major safe houses and pick up stragglers.

Yes, we need a secret map showing all the hidden safe houses where there are weapon stashes and food hordes and radios...

MAC DONT READ THIS PART:

If I may interject here...Having a map is a good idea, but what if the map falls into the wrong hands? Couldnt the same map we create to help round up everyone, be used against us? What if the map falls into the hands of Mac? He would basically have all the information he needs to send swarms of his hybrids to kill us all. (now I have to make a post that Mac can read. Its gonna sound like I am against you all, but thats just part of the plan. Long Live the Human Resistance)

MAC YOU CAN READ THIS PART:

and another thing people, you need to consider just giving up now and planning on going to Mac's buffet and Casino.

I don't know how much automation is involved with cell phone service, but I'm guessing that somebody actually has to flip a switch. It's a good chance that there will be cell phone service for a great length of time. This will help with contacting trusted parties. I agree, don't write anything down about location. Even in a forum. You could get the wrong people showing up. Even if they're not your enemies, they might "poison the well".

Keep up the good work General Mutt! Soon our benevolent plans will come to fruition! There will be steak and shrimp and slot machines for all!

Never put it down on paper! If it falls into the wrong hands... If something like that happens, we'll rely on the tried and true ways of the tramp. Pictographs directions to trails and other warnings.

I just read about this in the book I'm reading...(book 2 of The Strain series...)...But we do need to know what the glyphs will be and what they mean...Perhaps a tattoo'd map on someone's back? oh wait...they did that in Waterworld...

Cell phones will die out quickly. Everyone needs to keep a good old fashioned land line working, since they will presumably work for a very long time without any human involvement. Many of the old central offices can withstand a nuclear blast...probably why they're still around...camouflaged, but they're still there...Radios will also be used as long as we have power sources...
We do need a secret code...Does everyone (except Mac) remember pig latin? oday youay ?
