My favorite vehicle so far is this one: YouTube - Shot Show 2011 bug out vehicle
from the ballistic glass to the weapon storage to the armor plating. this one is my wish vehicle.

I see these types of vehicles regularly in downtown Seattle of all places. We call them Urban Assault Vehicles or "UrbAsses" for short. I especially like how their owners attempt to park them in the "compact" spaces at Costco...

Zombie Survival Guide
For the weekend March 26/27, 2011
The topic is Zombie Attributes.
Zombies are migratory, with no regard for territory ... they will travel miles & perhaps even cross continents in search of food. Their hunting pattern is random, and they may feed both night & day.
They will stumble through an area instead of searching it & they possess the ability to home in on a victim's location.
The head turns immediately in the direction of the fresh brain, the jaw drops, lips retract & they moan. Once alerted to prey, zombies cannot be distracted. They will pursue until they either lose contact, get destroyed, or feast on your brain.

Want to Learn More? Here is a link to a site for the Zombie Squad. They promise to "Make Dead things Deader". and say they are : "World's Premier Non-Stationary Cadavar Suppression task force" ZombieSquad

They also have a cheesy and interesting bug-out bag video:
YouTube - Zombie Squad - Bug Out Bag and You!

Have a safe weekend everyone!

Zombie Survival Guide Calendar March 28th.
Topic; Strategies; The Barricade.

Instead of leading the undead on for miles, you can build a barricade with bait to draw them to you, while you & your team patiently wait in a fixed position, ready to kill them before they overrun the barricade.
Weaponry methods for this scenario include incendiary devices; a flamethrower would be perfect.
Simple marksmanship will also do the trick.
Make sure all distances are measured and your rounds are expended wisely. Only use barricade method in areas with great visibility. Not in thick forest or jungle environs.

And, so timely, here is a UK article about some very young children practicing building barricades...

Reminds me of my brothers and their friends trying to blow up a bridge years and years ago. They piled discarded newspapers on/under/around a 6" gas main that ran under the bridge, lit it, and ran home to wait and see the bridge go up! Thankfully, the fire department was called and the raging bonfire put out before that happened. I think a 6" main would have taken out quite a bit more than just the bridge...

Remind me again why kids should spend more time outside playing? :D

Zombie Survival Guide for March 29th, 2011topic; the Voodoo Zombie
According to this entry, voodoo zombies feel pain and will let out a whimper if they trip and fall.
Voodoo zombies would not ignore deep gashes in their bodies like a "real" zombie would.

So, we have 2 categories here. The Voodoo zombie and the "real" zombie. Hmmm. Now I'll have to study the differences.:(

A zombie like in The Serpent and the Rainbow is dangerous in the same way that somebody on P C P has a drive to do something and won't stop, but they are not going to infect others. So, I wouldn't see them as an apocalyptic threat. This is somewhat good information because you may experience one of these, but not be at the beginning of the end. I guess if you only see a few, shoot a foot first and see if they respond. It would feel really silly to be in Haiti or some southern backwoods area, and lock yourself in the wilderness just because you ran into an unfortunate person who had the bad Voodoo cast on them.

from the Zombie Survival Guide
topics; Weapons & Combat Techniques; Armor:plate Mail

Standard medieval armor is far from invulnerable. They are heavy, cumbersome, suffocating, dehydrating, and extremely noisy. If possible, study & wear a real suit of armor and practice fighting in it against one (mock) attacker. You will find the experience uncomfortable at best, excruciating at worst. Now imagine five, ten, fifty attackers, all converging on your position, grabbing at the plates, pulling them in all directions. Without the speed to outrun them or the agility to avoid them, even the necessary vision to find f& strike them, you will almost certainly end up as little more than canned food.

(If any of you guys decide to get together and do this - I want to see the video!!! And if you have several beers first and paint up your "mock" attacker as a Zombie...I'll even PAY to see the video!)
:p

I used to attend training/practice sessions for Renaissance re-creations. I can tell you first-hand that it is heavy, slow, and cumbersome. Just being around those guys was tiring. From those hours of watching them, I can verify that plate or mail armor is completely useless outside of the circuses called "Renaissance Faire". One interesting tidbit though, is that both together do a better job at stopping bullets than most body armor made today - and this protection would only weight about as much as your body, LOL.

They were all very into their craft, and are probably the biggest fanatics I've ever met. Most of the armor is hand made by the wearer, so it is very dear to them. Asking them if you could wear a piece would be worse than asking a member of a bike club if you could ride his bike.

The whole idea of watching a scene with zombies attacking somebody in armor reminded me of this:
