Agreed. :) You shouldn't check a dry carto. In my earlier post I was referring to checking wick devices like rba's and clearomizers. See below. Sorry for any confusion.
It checks the atty under load for the most accurate resistance. Most VV devices do actually. The ProVari uses a low power signal (under 2.9 volts) to check. You can check the atty without fluid in it. I always do before I fill it up. Don't want to waste e-juice on a bad atty!

Hmmmm, I do it all the time. I always make sure that the Provari's voltage is set to its lowest output before doing so (not sure if that makes a difference or not). I've not noticed that I've burnt dry cartos doing so, but then all of my carts are either 2.5 or 3.0 ohm. I'm not sure what the voltage output the Provari uses to test "under load"; I guess its possible that you could blow a low resistance cart if the Provari puts out a higher voltage to measure resistance.

That's a good question to ask Provape. :thumb:

It's probably fairly close, but you will be limited to tobacco "flavors" only. The fact that the battery is permanent and non-removable is a huge negative for a $200+ device. There are specialized 510 adapter units that will let you vape tobacco leaves if that is a route you really want to pursue.

I have to say Vamo v2 kicks provari's ..., i use it waay more often than my provari, its just cheaper and easier to use.

Provari is not bad but pay 20 bucks for an 18650 extension cap? I mean that sucks, it should have been 18650 mod from the start, but i guess they wanted more money.

I plan on selling my provari now, it's not that big of a deal.

That's just my personal opinion, if you are happy with your device. That's the best device for you :p

Well, I wouldnt exactly call it a vaping app but it works beautifully for my needs. It's called "Ohm's Law & Power Law Calculator" by Cressall Resistors Ltd. and it's free the Apple App Store. It is rather simple having only four boxes labeled: voltage, amperes, resistance, and watts. Just enter data into two of the boxes and the other two are calculated for you automatically. Here's how I use it: First I check the resistance of my atomizer with my Provari. Always check by them because most of the time they are a tenth higher or lower than labeled. I take that number and enter it into the ohms box. Then I enter "my preferred" wattage(7w) into the watts box and voila! It fills in the voltage needed to get 7 watts from that level of resistance. Set your Provari to that voltage and vape away. Problem solved in no time at all. I start at 7w and usually work my way up .1v at a time until I get the vape I want. When I go back to the app and this time punch in the voltage I'm using it calculates my wattage which I find is usually somewhere in between 7-7.5w. That's how I found "my preferred" wattage. If you don't have an iPhone I'm sure there's probably a similar if not exactly the same app for Android. Just search for ohm's law calculator, electrical power calculator, voltage/wattage or something like that you'll find one no doubt. Enjoy your vapes!

Hello, I am new to vaping, but I leaning toward skipping all the usual steps and going for the ProVari, but the question is - is there anything better than ProVari out there? Also, what are the limitations of ProVari - does it have any? - in terms of what can be used with it, cartomizers, tanks, etc. Thanks.

Nothing is built better. Many devices will outperform it.

I would love a vamo to outlast a provari. And I have yet to see under load tests on a vamo.

It's doesn't seem to be especially accurate or able to get near it's advertised power without stacking batteries, at least in any review that I have seen. That's not really a knock since all the sub $100 vv/vw devices seem to suffer from that and it's still good for 40 bucks.

It's just not on the same level as a provari.

All the load tests I've seen show the Vamo is pretty accurate. Anything over 11 watts and there is a drop without stacking batteries.

Provari is dead accurate but requires a bit more fiddling when you want to change settings or access the menu. The Provari also requires additional purchases to use more than one battery size. If you want a mod that will go from 18350 to 18650 ... the Provari will not do this

Provari mini with 'the twins' accessory will go from 350-650 Twins (telescope extension for Provari)

I personally love my mini and 18350 mods in general so I don't have much use for it, but it's a pretty awesome end cap replacement if you're looking for one.

Think TC was getting at "it won't do it out of the box"

I did find it a touch absurd paying $23 for a black extension. But its worth it. They clearly milled the thing out of a solid block of steel. Its not going to be a weak link on the chain, so to speak.

Don't like its rounded. The paint is 85% or more gone on that rounded edge. Plus it doesn't stand up as well compared to the stock cap.

While I like the idea of the Twins I personally don't find it aesthetically pleasing. But I'm more of a function over form type anyways, so will more than likely get one in the future.

Using my one extension cap I can operate both 500's, or a 350 in one and 650 in the other. This combo has seemed to work very well for me. I've got 2x350, 2x490 & 4x650 so with that setup I can vape for days without charge.

Totally depends on what you plan to put on top of it. I use a Reo Grand and BF rebuildable most of the time and Precise+ with DID a bit too. I've got a ton of mods including Provari's but since I got heavily into RBAs and in particular SLR setups those are my go to devices.

If you are using store bought coils like cartomizers, clearomizers, etc a VV device is going to be better.

There are also a ton of new VV/VW devices out there and a new breed on the horizon using updated electronics. You would do well looking up device reviews on YouTube and basing choices on what appeals to you.

Shorter answer: yes there are many things better than a provari but it is dependant on what you are looking for. All mods have limitations.

Nope, Provari is just actually accurate and built like a tank. Menu is no harder for me than it was on the Vamo, actually probably simpler for me. Just one button, push it five times, select option.

Battery options aren't an issue for me, I wouldn't buy a VV/VW device for stealth, so just a normal provari is fine.

Had two vamos, one broke and one I sold. Good for $40 but never got used with the provari around.

I just received my ProVari and my initial impression is...I am impressed. First of all, I was expecting to get it on Monday or later, so the shipping time was very short. Second, it looks and feels great in hand, very solid and substantial, if you will. You can tell that it is a quality product from the first look at it. I cannot believe how smooth it feels when you unscrew the battery cap, it is buttery smooth. Charging the batteries now...
