I have to "burn it off"? burn what off? even with these premade coils? Geez.. I shoulda just bought more heads and left this rebuilding stuff to the smart people!

he meant to iodize the wick if you use SS mesh, so it doesn't conduct electricity and create a short.

No... Actually what I meant is if you buy Wire that you should “Burn Off” the wire before you wrap it around a Cotton Wick.

And if you buy Silica Wick Material and the Wrap Wire around it, then I would stick Everything in the Fire.

And if you Buy Replacement Heads, well, I would give them a Quick Dry Burn Also.

The whole point of the "other" thread (safe wicking materials and silica shards) is that overheating the silica thread creates shards. IDK if there's any proof on this. But that thread is interesting. I think I'm going with SS material as soon as practical (there's a run on kanthal right now I guess).

I just don't know either.

Some say that Silica or Aramid Fibers arn't Dangerous and some say that they are worse than Asbestos?

Maybe Cotton is the Answer? I haven't tried it so I can't say if it Works for me or Not. But I know this, Any Bulk Atomizer Wire that you buy should be "Burned Off" in my Opinion.

When the Stardust ( I think it was the Stardust? ) came out and people found they could be Rebuilt, I jumped on it and Bought NiChrome and Kanthal Wire from 3 Different sources.

All three of thm came with "something" on the Wire that gave off a Horrible Taste. Burning off the Wire cured it in all 3 cases.

SS makes sense to be because of the Chromium Oxides that form on Surface Boundries.

Seems if we can get a Landrover to Mars that someone can come up with an Inert Wicking Material.

The Pheonix Rebuildable Atomizer. I believe this is the same as the TBC-2 (there's a TBC-1 rebuildable that has a tank...meh). There was just a COOP on them for like $12. There may be another coming up.

So, no replies is looking like the answer is no?
:(

Sorry - hadn't quoted you in my reply. The Ato-miser was one of the earlier ones I saw, by nHaler. I can't remember the other one I'd seen, but a quick google found a Clockworks RDA (repairable dripping atomizer).

Thanks guys!

I've been super happy just dripping with my Standard 510 atomizers for over three years now.
But now I'm reading the silica wick thread, and I'm a little scared.

NOTE: I'm not anywhere near the end of that thread, so I don't know the conclusion.
NOTE: But until I get to the end of that thread, I am not inhaling into my lungs.

All this exactly.

I'm seriously hoping that the silica wicks crust over with juice anyway. Problem will be solved though with a rebuildable and ss mesh...so that's where I'm heading right now. Ordered a Vivi Nova to play with. Who knows. Next month it'll be "News Flash! ss mesh emits _________".

So... niche market for me! ;) :D

I personally use 4 strands of cotton crochet thread. It has been working like a dream for me. I also use 33g kanthal instead of the 32g kanthal

When you get the vivi, try a cotton wick, they don't burn. Works like boiling an egg in a paper cup in a campfire, cup never goes above the temp of boiling water...:)

+1. I wouldn't think the Vivi is really the most SS-friendly "rebuildable" (though it's technically a "reloadable" that people often use as rebuildable) around. The area you can fit the SS is just too small. I'm loving the cotton ball threaded through coils right now on my Vision which can be similarly rebuilt.

I haven't tried SS yet, but I'm pretty happy with cotton, and don't feel like jumping into dealing with more short potential at the moment.

ETA: Not to side track this conversation further into "cotton" territory (as there's a thread-a-plenty on that already), but I just had to share this video since it includes using cotton on the device you mention. Overall, he recommends it pretty much just "if you like doing that type of fiddly thing with your device." which I could relate to (in >1 way LOL).

I don't think the rebuildables will go "main stream" so to speak. New vapers want simplicity and cig look a like. I would categorize these as "advanced user". I think that prefilled cartos are the way to go for new vapers. Once they get on board and get serious about vaping.. then they (like most of use here) will be interested in stuff like this. But then again the VN, is simple.. changing heads is simple. If you buy one and then buy the replacement heads it's a "replaceable".. but if you buy wicking and wire and coil it yourself.. it goes into the category of rebuildable. So I can see replaceables being the future before rebuildables.

I like the VN.. it's replaceable AND rebuildable :D

But since I've got about 50 boge cartos... the VN won't be "replacing" my carto tanks or bottom feeder any time soon! Plus, I consider it an addition to my vaping gear, I do like it but wouldn't want it to be all I had to use.
