Then dont vape.Theres no reason to call the rest of us liars when you have an admittedly imperfect understanding of the subject matter at hand...unless of course you have an ulterior motive as evinced by your last inflammatory and rectally compacted statement.

OMG Rectally compacted statement bwhahahahhahahahhahahahahahhahaha breathe, breathe GAWD I am laughing so hard.

You're alarmist posts reminds me of the type of drivel when people just off the cuff say that nicotine is one of the most poisonous substances on earth and then making a connection to vaping without taking the time to actually see how much nicotine is contained in e-liquid and how much is actually inhaled by the vaper.

Before you just rock off the cuff with your statement, I again ask for you to do your research. Then once you have educated yourself, come back here and provide some thoughtful analysis instead of fear mongering.

Precisely.

And pretty well prepared opening statement for a new forum member who has joined this forum. Somebody here lost no time. No time at all. ;)

I wonder whether those who smoke tobacco cigarettes come to a smokers forum to ask such questions. Hm......

And gosh, "I am on the side of truth" were precisely the words of the worst troll that we had in our German vapers forum in a long time. Not that I am implying something. Those words just reminded me. Quite inexplicably, I'm sure :)

Meh...no reason to appear defensive. Sometimes talking things out aids in comprehension. The OP's obviously fresh meat in a new world. It might be too early to assign intent to his posts wouldn't you say?

I'm not sure but when you accuse people of being liars in the subject line of your post, you are sending a pretty strong label of intent.

A liar, supposes that I know the truth and am intentionally stating something to the contrary.

It's one thing to ask for education, It's one thing to question the studies, (if you read them). It's even ok to call someone ignorant (I am ignorant of a good many things).

But to go ahead and label someone a liar, you need to have some pretty strong evidence backing it up.

BTW. You can't be a liar if you don't know the truth.

The fact is there are studies that have been done on PG and VG in regards to airborne exposure and the exposure rates given to rats over a 90 day period were on an order of magnitude greater than someone would received vaping 1ML/hr continuously.

The diacetyl concerns are something to take into consideration, but again. Say that we need to look into this, not calling people out to be liars.

There has been not ONE documented case of someone who has been seriously injured or died as a result of vaping. And don't you know that if that individual existed, the media would be all over it like a bad dream.

Vaping is about risk reduction. It is on a magnitude safer than smoking, but like anything is not risk free.

We always seem to get into these debates where someone requires vaping to be some "risk free" exercise when nothing else in their realm of existence is required to meet that standard.

Vaping has to be PROVEN risk free to the vaper....to the second hand vaper.... Kids die every year from peanut allergies but no one is asking us to eat peanuts in a closet.

If you are truly interested in the risks of vaping compared to other risks we are exposed to on a daily basis, then I applaud you. I think you will find that vaping is a lot less risky than many behaviors you perform on a day to day basis. (Like driving or riding in an automobile).

But to come into the forum and simply start calling people liars and say you are on the side of "truth" when you've done no research except read a parallel thread in this forum???!!!

Sorry.... that's being a...

Precisely.

And pretty well prepared opening statement for a new forum member who has just acquired the possibility to post in the open, eh?
- 5 posts in New Members, and you can post in the open. Somebody here lost no time to do so. No time at all. ;) -

I wonder whether those who smoke tobacco cigarettes come to a smokers forum to ask such questions. As soon as they are able to post in in the open there. Hm......

And gosh, "I am on the side of truth" were precisely the words of the worst troll that we had in our German vapers forum in a long time. Not that I am implying something. Those words just reminded me. Quite inexplicably, I'm sure :)

I'm always for giving anyone the benefit of the doubt - unless they're pointing a gun at me. ;)

I'll still assume the OP wants information, but using terms like "liars" in an opening topic wasn't the best choice for starting a discussion.

Your thread title asks if vaping is safer than smoking, and then your post goes on to list reasons why vaping may not be 100% safe. Those are two separate issues.

I think you would be hard pressed to find anyone, even amongst those who are against vaping, who would say that smoking is safer.

As for the question of vaping being 100% safe, it's probably not, but it's the safer alternative. It's good to ask questions, do your own research, make up your own mind. Perhaps if you had done a bit more research you would have found that these questions are asked, repeatedly, and answered with the most up to date information we have. Even what you bring up about unsafe chemicals in the flavorings serves a purpose, take a look at the vaping community over the past few years and you'll see that it's been much better about self-regulating when it comes to potential dangers than government oversight could ever be.

It's pretty obvious that vaping is safer than using the combustible tobacco products.

Anyone who was a long time particulate matter inhaler can tell you they have observed most of not all of the "side effects" of quiting that habit including more energy, more lung capacity and generally a healthy feeling body. A Doctor I saw recently for a routine physical could not observe that I had been a smoker, tho I was for decades.

Also, I do believe that there is little, if anything, in v-liquid that isn't in the smokes -- yes, including flavoring in some forms.

Who's side are you on here?

IMO youre far from an expert on vaping.Come back and give us your opinions when you know more about it.

The CASAA website would be a great place to start, they have more than just "a couple of studies" that might offer some illumination for you.

Posts like this by "vapers" always make me question their intentions and/or their intelligence because it seems like youre doing the other sides work for them as well as spreading fear and misinformation.

The official policy here on these forums and with CASAA has always been about harm reduction. It might not be completely safe but its still far safer than the alternative.

Anyone who has actually vaped for any length of time can see the benefits for themselves. I'm almost 17 months completely cigarette free and I havent felt this good in 20 years.

I wouldn't say that I'm an expert on vaping, but everything I've read has given me enough information to make a choice for myself. I am continuing to read everything that I can find about vaping, and still my decision stands. I tried everything to quit smoking, patch, pills, gum, sometimes all three at once, and still puffed away for 20 years. In one evening after my vaping device came, I quit smoking the next day, and I'm not looking back. In the month I've been not smoking I've noticed that I can play with my kids more and not get tired or stop to have a smoke, I can actually walk up and down the stairs in my home without getting winded, and equally important to me I don't smell like an ashtray anymore.

The choice is continue doing something that will for sure kill me sooner than later, or take up something new that will maybe kill me sooner than later, but for sure will make me feel so much better in the mean time. I'd say that's an easy choice to make.

I don't know if vaping is safer than not vaping with all the things that can harm you in life, but I know that vaping is safer than smoking.

Here's something to mull over:

Using a handsaw is safer than using a chainsaw.

Does that mean you're always safe using a handsaw? No, it just means you're less likely to kill yourself with a handsaw than a chainsaw.

NOTHING is 100% safe. Too much oxygen will kill you. Too much water will kill you. I'm sure we can all agree that oxygen and water are pretty important to living though.

I've read numerous studies, not just the summaries, but the methodology. I've done my research. I've been vaping for over 4 years and I know I still continue to feel better. I feel confident saying it is safer. (Note that does not mean safe.)

I also do not appreciate being called a liar. If I am called a liar, I fully expect and demand the accuser bring overwhelming evidence. The OP called me a liar and did not bring much evidence to the contrary. That's a great way to ensure I form a unfavorable opinion of someone...

I like questions. I like folks questioning the accepted "knowns". I like intelligent disagreement. I demand respectful disagreement though and once the name calling starts, I won't be dragged into returning the name calling, but I will not be swayed by anything the name caller ever says again.

4 or 5 chemicals in vaping, many of them already studied extensively and in use by hospitals and doctors offices, versus 20k chemicals in a cigarette, many of them known poisons.

Youd have to be a member of ANTZ or a complete idiot not to understand that. I'll bet if you asked a 2nd grader if they would rather eat 20k chemicals or just 4 they could even tell you.

I can guarantee you that if there was anything, anything! significantly suspect about vaping, your buds at Pfizer/Glaxo et al would have been all over this like flies on poo and it would have been closed down many years ago - unless they had developed it and slapped a patent on it first of course.

They haven't found a thing, and by God, they have tried. The best they can come up with now is that "the children must be protected" and to force the industry out of business by urging their paid clients - politicians - to tax it to death. Never mind their own products are safe for "children over 12".

Also,.....excuse me? Now all of us on ECF are part of this same huge conspiracy? Sheesh, go away.

Ladies and gentlemen....forget the thousands of user stories about feeling better, great x-rays, doctor's slaps on the backs, exercising better- or even for the first time as a result, et al.

OP below stated "And also let's try to keep in mind that those defending vaping so loudly may have strong financial motivations to do so. Pointing the finger at tobacco and pharmaceutical companies doesn't necessarily mean that you don't have financial interests of your own to protect."

Only time will tell if its better than smoking or not.

Well, I have been vaping for over two years, and my health has improved tremendously.
Of course, it all depends on what you mean by "time". How much time?
The up to 6 years that some people have been vaping? And they are doing great?
Or do you mean like 50 years? Well, I got news for you: In 50 years, most of us will be dead.
But not from vaping. From simple old age.

..
Excuse me? Now all of us on ECF are part of this same huge conspiracy? Sheesh, go away.

We're apparently all protecting vaping because we're all in it together, never mind all the thousands of user stories about feeling better, great x-rays, doctor's slap on the backs, exercising better or even for the first time as a result et al. Obviously knows nothing about the history of vaping.

OP says "And also let's try to keep in mind that those defending vaping so loudly may have strong financial motivations to do so. Pointing the finger at tobacco and pharmaceutical companies doesn't necessarily mean that you don't have financial interests of your own to protect."

Oh, I must have missed that part!
Well, as Maggie Thatcher used to say "I want my money" :D

If you are interested in getting some data, please go to CASAA - The Consumer Advocates for Smoke-free Alternatives Association and read up.

CASAA: New study confirms that chemicals in electronic cigarettes pose minimal health risk

Also there are simply thousands of first hand cases where individuals who have been doing this for quite sometime have noted health benefits, not only observable by themselves, but by their physicians as well.

If you do have a true interest in making sure that vaping is safer than smoking, then I suggest you do your research and read up.

Otherwise, I'm gonna have to throw up the...

4 or 5 chemicals in vaping, many of them already studied extensively and in use by hospitals and doctors offices, versus 20k chemicals in a cigarette, many of them known poisons.

Unfortunately this is not remotely true.

There are over 50 chemicals used in Strawberry flavouring alone.

Vaping, unlike cigarette smoking, involves no tar, no burning, far less of the added chemicals, and less toxins.

It also gives very noticeable instant improvements - easier breathing, energy improvement, mood enhancement, cost savings and many, many more but it could be argued that these occur from quitting smoking and have nothing to do with vaping.

Long-term effects however, and unknown possible dangerous side effects are just that, unknown. But, unfortunately, very possible.

The best way to minimise these is to vape flavourless liquid, perhaps skewed towards a VG ratio with a slight dilution of distilled water.

You should DEFINITELY avoid Diacetly and it's related compounds (acetoin and acetly propionym) which is proven to be toxic, usually found in custard/butter flavours. Unfortunately it occurs in many others due to the complex manner in which 'natural' (unfortunately this is a misleading term and is still created in a laboratory from chemicals) flavours are created and the fact that Diacetyl itself is naturally occuring.

Vape safe.
