Religious, in God I trust ! I have seen both side's ...
I~ for one~ don't think you look like a jerk. I have debated this a lot over the years- I can play devils advocate and channel the inner want-to-believer in me and debate you pretty well I bet. But I wont win, because my logical non-believer side will eventually cave. lol
(I sound like I have MPD or something...)
I have heard some very valid religious arguments, and have seen people have conversations without being ugly too. But its just not the norm, mostly its just arguing. But I always hope someone will say something to cement my thoughts on one side or the other.
What I hate is that you can be made to feel as if you are some kind of 'Bad' person if you aren't religious and I know I am one of the good guys!![]()
VaporPete,
Why do you need me to look up these facts for you?..why don't you do a little research from the info I provided on already..
Here I will get you started:
For example,
Many people thought that the Bible was wrong in its description of springs on the ocean floor and they held on to their disbelief for some 3,000 years. Until 1977. Deep water exploration had been underway for nearly 60 years by this time, but ocean springs were still unknown and undiscovered until 1977. Then with only 5% of the ocean floor explored, Lewis Thomas (The Medusa and the Snail) wrote that scientists found springs in the ocean off the coast of Ecuador, and they found them at an ocean depth of 1.5 miles! They contained super heated water of about 450 degrees
Here is your UNbiased reference to back this up Exploring the deep ocean floor [This Dynamic Earth, USGS]
There are many Bible Facts foretold before "man" finally discovered them for himself later. Things that only GOD could know with the limited capabilities men had back in those days.
Like I said before, do your own research..and try not to be too "shocked"![]()
Oh yeah MissVapor, one more thing: You are tempting me with your provocative avatar.....could you really be satan??
My best,
-VP
Hahaha,, I guess you will find out one day when you join me in the lake of fire...
Im totally kidding.. and yes Christians can have a since of humor..at least this one does..![]()
Kate..as long as you are on the big 10 (or was Mel Brooks right---15?).I hope I don't offend anyone here, I'm genuinely puzzled about Abrahamic idolatry teachings.
Some Christians worship effigies of saints and apostles, is that idolatry? What about the worship of a cross or crucifix?
By the deep diving bathysphere, Alvin, co-designed by my father, who passed away recently. Just an aside note.VaporPete,

I agree. I'm anti-semantic, too>I don't know Jim, I suppose it depends on who wrote that and what their intentions were. If they said Gods with a capital rather than lower case that might also change the point.
It's all too much messing around with historical fact, myth, legend, invention and semantics for me now. I think the simplest, least authoritarian philosophies are the easiest to justify - Buddhism makes the most sense to me usually.
The Greek, Hindu and Scandinavian pantheons are the most interesting and entertaining to me. Monotheism is very boring and is usually modelled on a straight, white, able bodied, male example. Too much social control and politics but not enough sound science for me.
Remember, there is NO SUCH THING AS A GOOD PERSON

He could start by striking down congress/parliament/the lawyers and shout out, worldwide, WRONG!!!!!Well if there is an all powerful god ....its about time He/She/It told me what exactly it is they want from me....because I am certainly not going to be listening to other 'peoples' 'beliefs' on what He/She/it wants ....and nor am I going to rely on something I read in a book.
