Words cannot even BEGIN... Is this some sideways aim at people buying reusable shopping bags? I MEAN.

I'd be temped to just drive my car in backwards to the Walmart, and just throwing the groceries in it. LORD!

It's a small mazda it would fit through the doors. Since it's Walmart and they have those "tax write off disability greeters" I bet I could.

We're facing a Tax on Plastic Bags .. you know, the ones you get at the Grocer and everywhere else .. 7 cents a bag .. unless you have a SNAP card (food stamps) ..

The Vape is also under fire .. how long now have We, The vaping Taxpayers, been under some sort of scrutiny, one way or another .. ??

Illinois plastic bag tax advances out of Senate committee

They did that is California about 2 years ago. Everyone said it was going to be Outrageous. And that People wouldn't Stand for it.

It took about a Month for people to get into the Rhythm of bringing some bags to the Grocery Store. After that, it is just part of the Routine of Grocery Shopping.

I'm not a Big Tree Hugger. But they should have done this Decades ago.

Anyway... Any News on Arkansas?

I've been to the Capitol 4 times in the past 2 weeks attending committee meetings with the Hope's of testifying against the bill. It passed the Senate, and moved to the house where it's been hung in committee for a couple weeks. It's supposed to run in the committee on Tuesday; so I'll be back down there again...

Arizona's biggest problem is all the people from the cities in Kalifornia escaping from high taxes and restrictive regulation moving there and then trying to change Arizona into what they just escaped from.
We have that exact same problem here.

They could charge 25 cents per bag, and American's would pay it. Try that crap in somewhere like Brazil, and you'll see rioting in the streets! That's not BS either. They rioted when the local government announced a 2 cent tax on bananas. The tax was rescinded.

Is there anything preventing people from bringing their own bags?

No and that is probably what they want. I know a few environmentalists that do just that already. We like getting the free plastic bags though, we have secondary uses for them.

My sister and her tree-hugger friends successfully got plastic bags banned altogether where she lives. They happily toss their organically grown, gluten-free groceries and other items into chinese made polyester bags while never considering they've actually accomplished nothing because where those are made pollutes the planet way worse than we do in America.

Outta site, outta mind I suppose.

Like I've said before, vaping and taxes are here. If one can thwart it off now, it'll be back. Too many transplants that left high tax and spend areas are voting for high tax and spend politicians in concentrated areas are becoming a scurge in all 50 states. They are creating conditions those in the rest of the land mass have to pay for, like it or not.

America was built to allow the land mass populations to have the same say as the concentrated areas. Yet politicians are re-drawing districts that favor the candidates who agree with the politicians in the highly populated areas.

That was an idea begun by Mr. Jefferson a long time ago in my state as a part of ensuring wealthy land owners who had tremendous tracts of land had as much say as the city dwellers. My district was recently redrawn to ensure a group of small populations had the same say as concentrated areas nearby. Instead of big squares and rectangled boundry lines it looks like spagetti noodles spread out on a table. And guess who keeps getting re-elected?....Santa Claus.

Hopefully you can help knock this back Shawn. But it aint looking good.

From this side of the Atlantic, it is hard to grasp what is driving such ferocious opposition to vaping.

Last Friday I have been to the doctors, and while waiting in the practice, I was watching a video produced by our National Health organisation encouraging smokers to quit by switching to vape products, because of the high success rate entailed.

Hope that common sense will prevail.

To put it very basically it's the loss of tax revenue, big pharma and big tobacco. The politicians don't care about the citizens as much as they care about the dollars.

If a Politician, or a Party in general, didn't care about Maintaining (or Increasing Tax Dollars) how else would they be able to make extravagant promises of Entitlement and Give-Away programs?

That is, if the Belief is that More Government is Better than Less Government.

Yup. When I arrived Arizona was nice and red. Okay, so lima beans and spam were included in the "go get your extra food" state programs. but you CAN actually eat that stuff. Things were CHEAP.

AZ is now purple at BEST. Everything is going up. I used to shop for an entire week's worth of food for my family for about 120 bucks, at Food City.

I can barely do that now for my SELF at Walmart although to be fair, I do have added in some obnoxiously high priced items like denture adhesives and tablets.

I know it will be BETTER once me and the husband can buy in bulk again but it's still going to be MORE.

Here is why. In the UK you have government paid health care. So your government SAVES money when people quit smoking by vaping and become healthier. In the US we do not have government run health care so our government LOSES money in the form of taxes when people switch from smoking to vaping. It's all about money on both sides of the pond, it's just that vaping affects each country in an opposite manner.

Anna, I'm missing something. What does the political changes in AZ have to do with the price of food? So you have some sort of extra tax on food? If you're buying differently now, not in bulk and counting nonfood items in your grocery expense aren't you being misleading in claiming food costs more? And how would any changes in food stamps (now called SNAP) how would that increase your food bill? And as that's a federally managed program, what does that have to do with your cost of food (or denture care stuff)?

This about specific legislation in Arkansas, not the politics of AZ or the cost of your food. I fail to see even the faintest of connections.
