Maybe I just haven't got it right yet, but I totally prefer horizontals to verticals on this thing.

Count me on this one too! I wasn't a big fan of claptons either. So far my favorite is tripple twisted 28g a1 at 2.5id 7/6 wraps. I think i have tried just about all other suggestions, but keep coming back to this.

I completely felt the same way, until I tried a new vertical build two days ago that is hands down the best flavor I've had out of the Aromamizer so far. It's the same 26/32 Clapton that I used in other (disappointing) vertical builds, so I've been going over in my head what I did differently this time that may have been the difference, here's what I came up with:

  • 3mm ID instead of 2-2.5
  • 5/6 wrap instead of 6/7 wrap, so the coil is short enough that its entire height can just about be seen through the airholes. the shorter height also means my wicking isn't so close to the top of the chamber, so it seems to be picking up less of the cooked-off condensation that collects there, and has gotten black and gunky a lot slower than my previous vertical builds
  • Positioned perfectly centered in the airholes—mine are slightly out of alignment, so in my case that meant positioning the coils slightly to the right.
  • Slightly less cotton IN the coil than I did for previous vertical builds, but slightly MORE cotton under the coil, to keep a nice juice reserve for the 3mm wicking
  • wicking cut as short as possible above the coil
On the other hand, if I'd been getting satisfying flavor out of my horizontal builds to begin with I never would have bothered trying a vertical again, so YMMV. My final build ended up .43 ohm, been running it at 44-47 watts.

Thank you very much, I shall definitely try this! But I find it hard to imagine a better vape than what I am experiencing now with 26/32 horizontal claptons. I mean this is the perfect vape! If it gets better, well I just don't see how its possible. :)

Yeah if I'd been satisfied with my horizontals that would have been it. I also just enjoy building horizontals more, so it was entirely my wanting to find more flavor that motivated trying a vertical build again.

Oh I guess I should have mentioned that this is all on the velocity deck, of course.

I really like my horizontal Claptons, too, but I haven't tried the verticals yet. That's my next build though. I'm going to put it in the one running the quad horizontals because those are a pain to wick.

Heat management is for sure the biggest issue I'm realizing I need to focus on in my quest to beat this (oh my god healing so slowly) smoker's tongue/nose. Heat just kills the flavor for me, but I'm also a chain vaper. So far this build has hit my sweet spot for flavor production that doesn't get too hot after a few minutes of chaining.

If you've contemplated removing the pesky drip tip: It can be done. A Dremel, pair of vice grips, and some painters tape to mask the top should you slip. Took about 10 minutes from start to finish!

Gotta love those cherry vapes drip tips! I've got 4 of them and they are my favorite drip tips I've ever used! Don't get any lip gunk on them either.... Lol

I can see quad verticals with one vertical wick running down through both coils just touching the deck and bushy haircut on top. Airholes on both sides positioned at 45 degree angles all the way around wide open. All 4 airholes at 45s to the coils. The verticals shoot the vapor out sideways and a little downward.............

I mean, only easy if you don't like using what you wrapped on to help stabilize the coil while you position it.

Wicking vertical coils is easiest if you have tweezers with a fine end, then you just twirl the end of the cotton, stick it through, then grab onto the twisted end with your tweezers and shimmy it/lever it down to pull it through.

Alternately just make sure you twist enough of the cotton that when you poke it through you have enough to grab onto with your fingers or something, then you just shimmy it through that way. I've also a couple times done it where I get just a bit of cotton through, hold it down with a fingertip to anchor it, then use a skinny screwdriver to press against the rest of the cotton which ends up applying downward pressure on the rest of the strand.
