I think I'll hold off on this one. I'm the cook in the family; my sister's the baker. I remember when she hosted the Christmas party and did a Croquembouche; when it was my turn, I went to the Vietnamese bakery and ordered a Buche-de-Noel, lol.

Bro baking really isnt all that hard. They only thing with baking unlike cooking is that you need to make sure your measurements are exact! If you follow the recipes in both those books your golden. Once you have become very familur with baking then and only then can you play around with the recipe. Odly enough i felt the same way about baking in cooking school but yet that was my best subject and scored highest lol

the hardest part of the Croquembouche is the sugar part if you use both those books knowledge you will be supprised how easy it can be with a bit of practice

Oh, I can bake, I just generally prefer less foofy things, like cookies, brownies, pies and tarts. I despise frosting cakes and I suck at decorating them. The other thing that I suck at is making biscuits. For some reason, they never seem to turn out right. I do make a mean lemon pound cake though.

Howdy Tripsters!

I hope everyone is having a fantastic day!

Willow, watch out with those FWB if they are good Bs. I had one of those, and now I'm married to him, lol. :D I must say the second time around you know what you can and can't live with and it's a much happier and solid marriage than I could've ever dreamed of. He still gives me butterflies in my belly.

As for cooking and baking. I'm a great cook and love to try new things, however, I'm not the greatest baker. Baking really does take a lot more precision and has a lot more science involved, and I'm a little bit of this, little bit of that kind of cook.

As for biscuits, this is something I'm actually quite good at. The key to making your biscuits rise up and get nice and fluffy is to make sure they are actually touching each other in the pan, that way they bake up. (Trick I learned when I worked at McDonald's as a kid)

Congrats to everyone on their weight loss success! I'm only down about 5 since the New Year, but I can definitely feel more muscle, and I have gotten a lot more stamina. I'm ok with small loss if I'm gaining muscle. Muscle is sexy. :) I totally keep making my husband feel my wee biceps, lol. I'm a dork. :)

Kat, I'm with you as far as cooking goes. I generally measure my spices in my palm rather than breaking out measuring spoons, lol. 1/2 cup onions? 1/2 onion :D
Thanks for the advice on biscuits. The women in my family make me crazy; no measuring. Put flour in a bowl. How much flour? Depends on how many biscuits. Add shortening. How much? Eyeball it. Etc. I recently came across a recipe for a biscuit that said the same thing you did. You make it in a cake pan, with the biscuits touching. I'm gonna try it.

I came across a recipe today that made me laugh: Redneck hummus! Instead of chickpeas, use boiled peanuts! As a good ole Southern boy, I love me some boiled peanuts!

I'm sitting here going over recipes to make for my family for Saturday night. My sis says my food pics are driving her crazy and I have to cook dinner for her. I found one for fried chicken and biscuits over cheese grits. I think living in North Carolina is making me Southern!!! But I'm probably going to do a Balsamic Glazed pork tenderloin with crispy smashed sweet potatoes. I just have to remember if my sister eats pork. She's weird about which meat she'll eat and I can never remember. I was going to do filet with pomegranate sauce, but she doesn't like steak.
