I have asthma, although I've had no need for the Albuterol inhaler since I was the age of 18 (when I started smoking.) Although, at times, depending on the season and irritants exposed too, I develop asthma like symptoms. Smoking seemed to always override the closing of my airways. But, not regular smoke...it has to be menthol. Menthol, a medicinal chemical is used to remedy throat irritation, skin irritation, muscle aches and such. Nicotine, which can act much like caffeine is possibly a contributor too, since caffeine can often reduce respiratory muscle fatigue. Much like drinking black coffee at the time of a mild asthma attack.
As you may know, most Asthma attacks are triggered by irritants. It's safe to say, Mentholated cigarette smoke is an oxymoron, and "I" among others, would say," Asthmatics who smoke are just flat out moronic." even if it's using Mentholated Cigarette smoke as a remedy. But, I cannot deny, that the menthol in cigarettes and possibly the nicotine have been beneficial to me, and this I know for certain. I can't smoke non-menthol, not because of the taste, I can actually feel my airway closing.
I vape now and I am receiving the same benefit, but on a larger scale because I am not inhaling cigarette smoke irritants. I have vaped with no menthol and unlike cigarette smoke, I haven't experienced closing of my airways. But, I continue to use menthol, because I am 1) accustomed to it, 2) prevents me from needing an inhaler.
