Atomizer Cleaned ! Simple Cheap Effective Method.

Crazyhorse - This is probably because those, or some of, juices do indeed contain oils, not intentionally, but are part of the flavourings. Small amounts %wise but it builds up. So, these oils are part of the 'dry residue' that many flavorings have - stuff that does not evaporate from the coil and gets left behind.

Another possibility is that the lingering liquid is VG. VG takes weeks or even months to evaporate at room temperature (whereas water will evaporate in hours if not minutes).

Could be a bit of both.

Exo--I have taken apart over 60 atomizers after VG and have never scene anything this bad--how long did you use it and approximatly how much did you vape with it. ---------Sun
Titan1_28mlGlycerine_th.jpg
That gunk from pure VG was made with the same 'auto-vaper' rig
that produced (almost) no deposit using pure PG.
(as shown on previous page)

Took 3 to 4 days to pass 28 ml of (30ml VG + 4ml deionised water).

60 atomizers dismantled?, that must be a record.

crazyhorse,
glad someone-else has seen the green colour in the depoit,
I saw yellow/green bits & was assuming it was due to salts of nickel
that I think was coming from the solder blobs, into the gunk during vaping.

MyVaporStore says their e-liquid has:
Ingredients: Water, Propylene Glycol (PG) , Artificial Food Flavoring , Nicotine.
so no VG specifically added, so I assume all your gunk is from the additives,
probably mostly the flavourings ?

Certainly the gunk formed much quicker & harder,
when I mixed some VG with a total of 17.5% of a mixture of dark lorann flavours
(equal amounts of Black Walnut, Pralines and Cream, Vanilla Butternut, Coffee & Root Beer)

Kin.
55% PG, 15% VG, 10% ethanol, 20% water
sounds like a lot of water, I know some e-liquid have ethanol,
but I don't know if it's that much.

Based on exo's pictures of the coils ....one using pure PG and one using pure VG....I would really like to try using juice that is only PG ...but I don't think I can get any here in the uk.

Yes, seems not to easy to find, not listed online in the UK anywhere that I could find. A compounding pharmacy might sell it or order it. The food-grade version that is.

You can get PG (pure) from Boots if you order it at the pharmacy counter.
Pretty cheap.
Thats OK then to dilute a strong e-liquid, but there must be other
suppliers than the USA MyVaporStore that make PG only e-liquids,
& available in UK.

Maybe here's one :
Q&A E-liquids - Ecig-liquid.co.uk

Only seem to do 16mg strength, but have quite a reasonable flavour range.
Fairly expensive at £8 for 10 ml, plus £1.75 min shipping.

Not sure what's in the 'tobacco absolute' (flavour?) part of the ingredients,
of even if that is in the fruit or nut flavours.

And would their flavours gunk-up the coil just as much as glycerol anyway ?

Johnson Creek liquid
PG : E-Cigs.co.uk, Online Store
don't say if there's any glycerol in there.

Totally Wicked bottles say 'less then 20%' glycerol.

@exogenesis - is this still your preferred method, or did you 'convert' since to the ice maker cleaner or other (yes, 'unsafe,' 'experimental,' etc :) ) means?

Wegster--------Unsafe and experimental means you are being told not to use it--if you do --you do so at your own risk. Period. ------Sun

Hi wegster,

this is very safe as long as you don't do something daft like vaping the neat H2O2,
& you rinse & soak in water in a glass of water afterwards.

It's the only method I use, because it works,
and 'sanitizes' the whole atomizer effectively.

I've tried most methods on this forum (& some others),
but found none satisfactory (or useless).

Rinse out left over juice (think that bit is most important)
hold the atty in e.g. a peg,
burn off gunk to ash (battery, or external 3 to 4.5V supply),
H2O2 drip fizz a few to several times - while heating,
rinse under tap to get the dislodged ash out,
soak overnight in a glass of water (just to be sure),
maybe rinse again,
blow & drain water,
prime with juice,
use.

Sound like a lot of steps,
but a lot of them are common with all cleaning methods.

If you're at all worried, use goggles (or spectacles),
& do it in a well ventilated room.

The most dangerous part is probably the smoke that comes off
when you burn the gunk off - don't inhale it !

As Sun Vaporer said, everything is at your own risk,
including vaping in the first place ;)

Honestly i have had alot of sucess with the 901 atty cleaning , and in terms of longetivity , i have one already for two months straight and no probs, and its very simple 2 in 2 days i put them in a glass of water just a little, open the microwave and set it to 4 minutes, until it boils a bit, and then i take them out and blow them , so that the water gets all out , and thats it !, the frequently you do it the bigger lifespan it has, cheers

tbh mre5674
I use 30% rather than the 'skin disinfectant' strength 9%
only cos it works even better (or a least quicker),
but it's not generally available.

The 'skin-care' 9% works just fine & is the 'recommended' strength here.

Someone (can't remember name) used 50%, but there was a post
where it sounds like they didn't clean out the old juice first &
got a flame-like reaction, so I guess you can go too strong
if you use it 'wrongly'.

Yes still use NH4, but only needs enough to counter-act (alkalize) the
H2O2 stabilising phosphoric acid that is added.
i.e probably only need 1 part ammonia per 50 H2O2, or something similar.

But it doesn't matter if you add too much, just the ammonia smell during heating
(which is no worse than when you open the household ammonia bottle)
