It's a whole different animal, lol. The way its made and what you can do with it. I love them cause you can drip into them and get great flavor. IMO they last longer then any carto, that is unless you rip the carto apart and change the coil. My one friend, I think I have two lol, has had an atty last for over 3 months. They last longer then a carto I do believe, since a carto only lasts me about a week and an atty lasts about a month then I have to rip it apart and replace the coil.

An atomiser is expected to last around 3 - 6 months whereas one cartomiser is expected to last 3 days to one week. /Nutshell'd

It's probably because of what they're made of as well. An atomiser has a thicker coil, thicker metal and is built to last longer but a cartomiser has a thinner coil and some of them I wonder if I could bend them with my bare hands. Almost all of my cartomisers are just wrapped in cardboard looking paper but the atomisers have a nicer finish that doesn't fall off half the time.

Atomizers are supposed to last a long time, but it is greatly affected by the juices and pg/vg used with them. Also, organic and natural juices tend to kill atties pretty fast. Also, every attie will be different based on brand and resistance. I took a month and tried boge, smoketek, bauway, cisco, joye and ikens to name a few and they were all different in their inhale, throat hit and durability. I found the Ikens lasted longer with dark juices and organics and withstood frequent cleanings better. Also, they had an awesome inhale and throat hit. They were my favorite atties till I tried the dual coil atomizer.

Just something to keep in mind.

Ummm, ALL of mine (half dozen types/brands) are metal. Just saying...
They are metal, it's just the wrapping. If I peel the wrapper off it's just metal underneath. I'd kinda worry about using liquid inside cardboard and heating it up with an exposed coil it was made of cardboard rofl!

It's really thin, I dunno aluminium looking foil stuff with a colour on the outer side that kinda looks like cardboard.

They look cheaper is what I mean.

I personally dont like atomizers at all however i keep a few around for testing new juices . Atomizers make all my juices taste harsh and strong and well as them leaking all over me and getting dry burning nostril hits every other couple pulls .Atomizers do last a lot longer than cartos but thats why cartos are cheaper . Cartos are fully disposable and attys are semi disposable .

The metal wrapping is just the bridge, brings juice down from a cartridge, if you are just dripping you can take the bridge out. The real inter workings of the atty is the coil at the bottom of the bridge. Just letting people that don't know, many do and I don't mean to be redundant

Nah this is great. You guys are a wealth of information and there is a crap load of info to sift through.

The cartomizer that I'm using now, which i believe are joye brand has lasted nearly 2 weeks now and is still working at a pace of 2ml/day. When they're done, is it because he coil dies or is it because the filler is all gunked up?
I am assuming an atomizer + cartridge is not as convenient a solution when out and about? more mess?

It is more of a hassle and yes a carto is great for going out. More juice = more time to enjoy other things. Just fill the carto and go, while with the atty you have to keep refilling but IMO it has better taste. I use my attys at home, when I'm out I use a CE3. A carto can die, feels like your sucking thru wet quicksand, for many reasons. Check this out if you want to try to rebuild your cartos, http://www.e-cigarette-forum.com/fo...but-real-old-nasty-510-cartomizer-pt-1-5.html

Some atomizers like tank atomizers cost a LOT more than a pack of cartos. Atomizers are meant to be more long lasting. You are supposed to keep them clean and take care of them and you may get a couple of months use out of one or more, or it may pop the first time you use it. My experience with atomizers is not much - used 4 different kinds (510, 306, 401, 901) and was unable to keep them performing as well as new and got sick of atomizers.

I prefer cartomizers. I can get 7-10 days use out of cartomizer using thin clear juices. Every time I put a new cartomizer on my ecig it makes it as good as brand new. So 95% of my everyday vaping is on cartomizers with the juices I vape every day and a couple of other flavors for variety. I do sometime drip on an atomizer at home (on a sealed manual battery) to test new juices, vape occasional juices, vape a couple I like that are thicker than I will put in cartomizers.

However - I think when someone is new to vaping and trying lots of flavors and trying to find their favorite juices, atomizers and even atomizer cartridges are much more useful. I never test a juice in a cartomizer.

Dormouse is def right. DOnt test juices with cartomizers, you could end up wasting alot. I keep a few attys around for testing juices and once I know I like one, I fill a cartomizer.
I dont know what PV you have, but if its a 3.7V I recommend you try the Ressurector cartomizers. They are awesome and produce huge amounts of vapor and great flavor. They are 1.7ohm LR and hold 2ml of juice so they last all day.
While cartos are meant to be disposible, if you fill them right you can get a lot of use out of them. Ive been using the same Ressurector with one juice for about 4 and a half weeks.
I HIGHLY recommend you use a syringe to fill your cartos. It is quick, easy, and ensures they are filled properly. Plus you dont have to wait for the juice to settle like you have to do when you drip into the top. They can be used right away

To answer your question, a carto normally gets clogged up before it dies, but sometimes the coil will break sooner. If you take care of them and fill them right then it should be that they clog first. I have never had a coil break, I normally retire a carto after its fairly clogged up.

For dripping and testing juices I use a HH.357 hybrid atomizer. Its expensive, at $22 but gives better flavor than any atty ive ever tried and crazy amounts of vapor. While it is expensive, If you take care of it properly you can easily get your moneys worth for it. Ive had mine for a few months and it still works great. My one buddy has been using his HH.357 for over 10months, so the $22 can def be justified

Here's an idea from left field: I drip into my older E2 steel cartomizers after they stop wicking well. I get a few weeks dripping with them and that coil's right up top where you can't miss! I just drip on either side of the coil where the wick enters the cup. If I drip too much it ends up in the carto and helps keep the wicks wet between drips. My attys haven't lasted more than a month anyway and a used E2 is a cheap tester/dripper. For convenience during the day, I use steel dual coil cartos on 3.7-4.8 volt devices.

Expected to last 3 to 6 months, I have been vaping for a year now and I have had 1 atomizer last for 2 months out of 15 total atomizer, if I got 1 month I would be happy but that has not been the case. Switched to cartos, more reliable and cheaper. If I was getting 3 to 6 months per atty I would still be using because WHEN atty works its clearly superior.

I get a few weeks out of an atomizer. Hard to tell exactly because I rotate them but I'm good with that. I used to think that dripping and atomizers were a huge pain in the ...., but the taste is soooo good. It's all I do now. I went back up to 24mg, so I drip a couple drops, 8 or 10 huge tokes and I'm good to go.

ok now i understand. that carto that I was using for the past 2 weeks is now today clogged and harder to draw from. I will try boiling it in water tonight as a gent on youtube explain it. I tried boiling one this morning which had some crappy juice in it. the polyfill looked good and i will try using that today.
Im going to stick with cartos as i need to try to keep my life simple. haha. e-cigs with all of the options are anything but simple.
I will probably order an atty for testing juice like you recommend. thx
