My FT KM3 also arrived today. Machining seems very good. Couple of O rings need replacing as they are quite chewed up.
The other thing I noticed is that th centre positive screw protrudes quite high off the deck. makes it a bit of a pain to build neatly. Any reason for it to be so long, or could I grind it down a bit?
Hmmm just noticed on the pic that one of the deck screws seems to be a bit mangled as though it has been used before.

Is this the 316 SS 427800? I just received two of them today. I just sat down to build one of them and both of my decks look pretty much like yours.

I think both of mine are fatally flawed. The positive screw on both of them is located so close to the outside end of the positive block that the screw heads hang off the outer side of the block. Mine might be even be a little worse than yours. Either the screw is placed too far out or the block is too short or both. As it is, it is very difficult, if not impossible, to secure a coil tail under the screw; the only place that the screw head can secure the tail is on the sides of the screw, which, IMO is simply not good enough.

This is not worth bothering with. Worthless.

Anyone know whether FT pays return shipping? Is this worth pursuing further with FT CS or am I better off just chalking it up to experience?

Yes thats the one. (316L) I just exchanged the screws for the spares in the pack, and they are even bigger and hang over the edge of the block further. They just seem to have grabbed the nearest screw that will go in the hole without consideration for them actually being in the correct position, and if they will do the job. Going to be a pain trying to get the wires trapped. Not sure what I will do yet. Just a bit p....d off for now.
FT do pay return shipping, but not sure I want to do without at least trying the damned thing. Sorry you have had the same problem.

Not worth trying, IMHO. I think the block is too small too. It doesn't reach the end of the insulator. Bet yours is the same. I'm pzzd too, but no sense throwing e-liquid away.

I'm going to buy a couple more Tobeco clones and return these or keep them for parts.

Nah. I think even the insulator is cut too short. :grr:

^^^ This is interesting, because I've had a 4278000 for a couple weeks and it's performing beautifully- no trouble whatsoever with the block/screws. Really sorry to hear of your troubles, since I just ordered 2 more of them!

My 4424400 SKX, however has the same issues you guys are describing- very difficult to get the wire captured- just spits it out. And when you do get it- the freakin' screw backs out of the threads! But my 4278000 is fine.

Slick wick right Rick?
I have found it completely unnecessary to play with my wick.
I don't fluff it,tease it, or tear it.
Just cut the cotton with the grain and install.
The FDA claims that playing with your wick can cause blindness.
You can think about but DON'T do it.:w00t:

Nice looking build there Vinny. I do it just like you... How tight is that wick in there? Is that from a cotton pad? I'm currently using Ekowool in my 2 and they are working great. I'm on my 6th refill on both and I still have not cleaned them. Wanted to see how long these will last in these but unfortunately my 2 Pluses will be here tomorrow or Monday and I will have to stop using these small ones...

yes, but i would use a left for mini

Now I am really confused. A couple of others like Katya and Swampus recommended right handed coils. You guys trying to confuse a newbee? I guess in the end whichever works to keep the legs away from the air hole ...

Exchaner, look at those pictures--those are the best ones I could find to show you a properly built and positioned Kayfun-style coil. The legs should come out straight from the coil right under the screw. Your legs need to be short! The shorter the better. Don't flip anything upside down and don't let the leg cross over the air hole. And try a smaller ID coil--2-2.5 mm is just right for this small Kayfun.

Also, make sure you build a correct coil. Kayfuns take a right-handed coil.

This is the how I do it, except my coils are spaced...

Yes, it is too bad. Other than that, the fit and finish on these is really good. Not sure what I'll do yet, but I sure don't want to wait another couple if weeks only to find out that I got sent two more from the same batch.

Is that one of those USA made ohm meters? If yes, is it worth the price?

Forget "right" and "left".

Think "clockwise" and "counter-clockwise". You want clockwise. The one in your photo is counter-clockwise.

But if I were in your shoes - can't wrap a coil and only have those FT ones available - I'd at least try to see if I could trap the legs by either wrapping them counter-clockwise around the screws (with the legs coming off the bottom of the coil) or by wrapping them clockwise (with the legs coming off the top of the coil) anyway. Either way could be problematic, but you might as well give it a try.

:2c:

Btw, are those Kanthal?

Yeah it is.I have to say I was disappointed in the quality of the materials used namely the plastic case.It feels like it wants to break. It does work and is accurate from what I can tell but for the money I was expecting a little better build quality.
