Got mine today to replace the kabuki I've had on my Provari for a month. Was getting burnt taste from the aspire coils the kabuki uses and I got tired of replacing them every few days, so I've upgraded to this beautiful Tobeco kayfun 5 today and have been rewarded with both better flavour, And a rebuildable deck that only costs a cuppla cents to recoil/wick compared to the ridiculous $3+ AUS per coil for the kabuki.

So far I love it!

Onya mate, nothing beats diy'ing. Apart from a brief fling with Crown coils while i was waiting for the RBA ive never used prebuilt coils. I love that my weekly costs are about $1.70 (Beats a pack of roll your own at $50+ a week), using unflavoured juice to vape...

Actually its probably less than that now that ive switched from using PG to distilled water (never use tap water)...i had 3 bottles of bad PG in a row, from different suppliers, and decided it was time to remove PG from the list of things that could go wrong

Just moved from 60/40 vg/pg or 50/50 to

(12mg target)

84%vg
10% distilled water
6% nic (100% pg based) - so there is some PG

Have adjusted well to it after 2 weeks. Still get a throat hit of sorts purely from the temp i vape at. The DW thins the VG out to make it wick very well

2Litres of distilled water from Woolies for $1.60...be a while before i need to restock that :)

I was surprised to see in the DJLSB review that he thought the threads on his clone were better than the original, considering the price premium

Also ... with the clones packaging being better than the original too...

If i paid SM they money they want for a Kayfun 5, id want it to come in something like my (yes im going to say it, and ill even apologise this once) TreeBox came in....

He was specifically referring to the top cap threads. Even on my original, it takes a little effort to screw it on as there is not much threading there to begin with. At the start, it feels a bit crunchy, but then quickly gets smooth. All the other threading is butter smooth. I have not compared it to my two clones, will have to do that.

...
But why surprised?
Do you know who have a newer CNC lathe?
China now is a real power in manufacturing. And they still manage to keep prices low.

I've seen some real cheap vape crap come out of China, but both of my two different clone K5's are nearly perfect compared to the original. Seems now in the better shops, if they want to, they can compete with anyone's machining. Scary!

Okay, so im thinking of taking the plunge and getting one seeing as how they seem to be doing okay, i only have two questions, not having been near a Kayfun before

1) SXK or SJMY ?
2) How far do you have to break the bloody thing down to clean it, please do not say 27 parts :)

I come from a (3x) Lemo 2 home....indestructotank..so im used to having three parts to wash
I have 2 originals, 4 SJMY and 4 SXK. They all function perfectly. The originals are, by a small margin, the best machined. The SJMY, is close. Very very close. I need to inspect carefully to tell the SJMY from the original. The surface finish on the SXK, is not quite as good, but it is still a very good clone. I would not hesitate to buy an SXK if the SJMY was not available.

For the initial cleaning, I disassemble completely and ultrasonically clean in a solution of distilled water, Dawn, and alcohol. This is overkill, but i like to inspect every part, lube the orings, and make certain any contamination is removed from the parts. It is a simple device, easy to completely dismantle and reassemble. Be careful with the o-rings, inspect closely. I found one oring on one of the originals damaged slightly. Replacements are readily available from any industrial supply company, or online. Complete parts lists with sizes are posted elsewhere in this thread.

It is not simply having the newest CNC machinery that results in a quality product. The sharpness and condition of the cutting tools, the speeds and feeds programmed in, the care with which parts are treated post machining, and many other factors affect the overall quality. I can make equally good parts on my 70 year old equipment as with my modern, it just takes longer.
But yes, China has made great improvements in quality

Got my SS SXK KFv5 Mini recently from FT and that one was the first to get a soapy scrub down. I'm not so much a MTL vaper (I am fine either way), so what is the widest inner diameter that fits and/or works best in the Mini? I'm after flavor the most, but like a good amount of vapor/TH.

LOL yeah ya can't beat that!

Although into my second day of almost chain vaping I've dialled in the juice flow control that works for my 50/50 daily juice at 3.5 turns (changes with ambient temp though)

I was so excited to receive my Tobeco clone that I only gave it a quick warm rinse under the tap, so not really clean as far as machining oil is concerned.
Latest refill I pulled it completely down and gave it a damn good sudsy wash.

Upon close inspection of the general engineering (I'm multi skilled in many trades including engineering) I found the air flow holes to be a bit "wonky" in their execution, which is the ONLY "complaint" I would have in its build quality.

Yes everything works, and overal its a beautiful bit of engineering...but whoever had the job of drilling the air flow holes on mine musta been drunk or stoned lol.
Not very straight or accurate at all.
But they work, so that's all that matters really..especially for only $46 AUS :)

The most important thing to me is that it kicks my Kabukis's .... flavour wise..and I can build ANY coil I want on it for a few cents, easily!
Such a simple and easy RTA to work with even my 54 year old eyes and shaky hands can do it with accuracy and confidence lol

If I could find an original Kayfun 5 for a sensible price down here in Australia I'd buy it in a heartbeat!
Just because!

And I'd just like to ask as a relative newbie to vaping (a few months) WHY a seemingly simple change to a different tank can make such a big difference to the flavour of my daily Vape juice?

My first mod after my brief initial Evod purchase was a Kanger topbox mini starter kit which opened up a whole new world of vaping to me. I'm sure many others can relate to this :)

After that I found this forum and learned so much that I quickly moved to a Provari Procyon (just FYI I'm not a cloud chaser. It's all about flavour for me so mega watts wasn't a consideration. Reliability, and quality was, especially considering I was spending around $70 AUS week on rollie tobacco)

"Kabuki" kept coming up in ECF searches, but after investing $124 AUS my kabuki has fallen short of the mark, especially considering my initial $90 spend on the Kanger starter kit gave me no noticeable worse flavour than the addition of the expensive and highly regarded kabuki tank.

Fast forward and I've quickly given up on the burnt flavour, and short life of a cuppla days per coil I get from the kabuki no matter where I set my wattage (starting as low as the recommended 8 watts, and $3+ per coil)....mmmmmm just took another puff on my Kayfun clone .. Delicious! :)

Kayfun v5 Clone by Tobeco
Code: labor22

Black or SS comes out to $21.05 plus shipping. Free shipping over $75.

Ahh man I really hope my direct deposit shows up 2 days early like it did last paycheck.. I think I can just squeak in before it ends if it gets deposited monday. Might as well get a SS one to complete the collection.

I got mine from sjmy and besides the machining smell, its working wonder for me after a good wash. I bought myself genuine squape x and got huge disappointment from it. Skeptical to buy kayfun authentic version after squape experience, im so happy with this sjmy version. If not for the review comparison from djlsbvape on the auth. Version, i would get one from svoemesto to support the original. I hope they improve it and im certain to get one.

Ok so I bought one of each of the top clones. A Tobeco, SJMY and a SXK Kayfun 5.

Nice job here on the board, the reports here are really accurate.

The early winner is the SJMY for me ,,, IMO, although I have yet to fire up the Tobeco, but the SJMY is a pretty hard to beat atomizer. The juice control ring works flawlessly, right out of the box. When the juice control is off, (a couple of twists of the base), you can store it on the fly and not worry about leaks. (Well, maybe a tiny bit.) Which really is a nice improvement. As reports here indicated, they really do gobble up juice. If there is a difference in the SXK and SJMY, it seems the SXK on one star setting juice control has a bit more condensed vape. Still, I dont think any atomizer in the world
beats the Kayfun lite plus for condensed or concentrated vape. ie ( the vape to air ratio is high) Just my opinion.

If you bought an SXK and the juice control ring is really tight and doesnt work well, dont worry about it, after some use it will start to wear better.

I got my SJMY from Doris over at Focalecig. (Way to go Doris!!!!!!!!) Here is a photo of my SJMY:

I also really liked on all of the Kayfun 5's the deck, it was easy to build on. They improved the deck, without making the deck larger in width, no easy feat. Heres a photo of mine:
