Has anyone figured out why they get different C ratings?
For years, the famous red AW IMR 1600 has been listed with 10C, but now, ie. RTD lists them as 15C.

Guys like Bishopeals would know I would guess… but which is it, and why the difference?

If they changed the batt at some point, when did that happen and did anyone out here notice?

I've been around since early 2012 and have known since a little after that the AW 1600 mAh is rated for 24A, which is 15C. I did some research on batteries last year before shopping for a few and I noticed that some web sites had low numbers on some batteries including some AWs. Don't know why that is with AW batts. They are fairly easy to get data for from AW's presence on CPF.

OTOH, you've been here since mid 2010. Maybe these cells were different chemistry and were 16A back then?

Thanks Ryedan, I had forgotten CPF… I used to get them there.

I have a doz. over the last couple years, some unused, and since the first Provari came out, they had been my batt of choice, recommended for anyone using LR atomizers.

When i got into sub ohms about a year ago, I figured 16A would be borderline… just recently I realized, from vapers who are into sub ohms they are said to be 15C 24A.
But in the last year, i've seen posts saying don't use them because they are 10C

If you look at the reseller here on ECF he has them listed at 10C as well. I posted a question on his thread, but it seems just an order thread and no response… i could PM him too.

I am convinced there must be some talk about it at some point… i'll keep looking (in my spare time lol)

Both the IMR18650 - 1600 and IMR18490 are rated @15C max. continuous discharge.

Thanks,
Was there a change from 10C to 15C?
And if so, when did that occur?
Michael

hi Andy,
I have bought at least 2 dozen AW IMR 1600 over the last 3 years for "vaping".
in the las last year I have been using sub ohms coils in my atomizers, anywhere from .35 to .9 ohms.

Since early 2010 I've seen specs for AW 1600 listed at 10C. Even the reseller on ECF lists them 10C.

Looking at your first page on the IMR list, I see it dated '09 and a 15C rating.
If that is right, then you have always been listing them as 15C.

I have seen numerous citings of 1600 IMR's as 10C. ECF hero's like Grimm Green and Avidvaper's Cisco as well. In a dated post, (2010 i think) Cisco insists he verified 10C with AW.
Of course this is of concern to safety issues and sub ohms coils.

Many vapers who have been around a while and have transitioned to safe sub ohms vaping are disregarding these due to a 10C rating.
Many newer vapers are not because they've seen you listing them as 15C.

I am delighted that you list them as 15C, and am only sorry i didn't know that as it would have eliminated my seeking higher C rating batteries elsewhere.

Can you tell me the back story on why the difference?

thanks so much.
Michael
