for 23 years you've never smoked a short from your ash tray when you were out?? I'm gonna have to call b.s.

Then call BS on me too. I smoked 45+ yrs.

Taking an already smoked .... out of the ashtray and straightening the bigger ones so you could smoke when you ran out. I did this especially when I was trying to quit. No

Ever pick up a cig off the street or out of a public ashtray? Oh My God, No

Stealing smokes from another smoker? NO, I have bummed a cigarette, but I have never stolen a cigarette

Ashing or dropping a .... in someones drink? No, at least not to my knowledge

Lying about smoking: Saying that you quit but still smoked. No. I have never once stated I quit while I was still smoking. I did state that I was *Trying* to quit. That was not a lie.

Stealing smokes from another smoker?

- Can't remember when, but it had to have happened at some point.

Ashing or dropping a .... in someones drink?

- My own. More than once. Yuck.

Lying about smoking: Saying that you quit but still smoked.

- Get accused of that regularly by people who don't see any difference between vaping and smoking.

Extra Credit

- burnt a stripper while getting a lapdance

- "rolling my own" with .... remnants at 4am with no open store nearby

- smoking in the shower

- not wanting to litter and putting butts in my shoe

- pretending that I could tolerate menthols because a cute girl offered me a Dunhill.

- carrying a second box with a stale cig so that I could gracefully refuse to give cigs to street people

I've done this. Not in anticipation of 'running out', more like I didn't plan to stay up drinking quite as long as I in fact did. At that point, tired and beyond the point of legally driving to the store for cigarettes. The car's ash tray was also hit at times like that.

A few times in my early teens, a decade before I became an addict. Chased down streamers tossed from passing cars and got a hit or two off of them.

No. I have purchased a couple cigarettes from co-workers when I ran out before quitting time. And, a few times I've bummed a smoke. Never stole one though ... honest.
Ashing or dropping a .... in someones drink?
HELL no! What ash hole would even think of doing that intentionally?
Lying about smoking: Saying that you quit but still smoked.
Nope, never. Of course, in 35+ years of smoking I only made a single attempt to quit.

I had this conversation with a couple of ex-smokers and it turned out to be funny, sad, gross and very telling about how we acted while smoking analogs.
...

This reminds me of somebody I knew so, so many (OK--nearly 40) years ago, back when anti-smokers were still widely regarded as cranks, even by most non-smokers. The good old days. This particular person liked to say, "You know, you turn into another person whenever you light up one of those." No, as an 80% quit person, I don't choose to think of myself as only 20% as evil as my former self.

wow paula. nice to see I ain't the only one. I got called a B.S artist for telling the truth. what's with that? not all of us are on the same page hey. Not saying at all that it's a bad thing to do something out of the ord, (which I done plenty of times) but just not with analogs for some reason. doubt me if you want peeps but I don't log onto ecf to spin a yarn. this site is helping me quit analogs after 23 years and I am not here to play games and make shallow comments.

I've dug butts out of my own ashtray regularly. Never a strangers ..... I guess I might have if I was that desperate. I have holes burned in almost everything I own. Drank .... soaked diet coke many times from using the cans as an ashtray in the car and forgetting. That is awful. Haven't stolen but have not mentioned I smoke and let someone assume I was a non smoker.

And what is it about hardly smelling an over flowing .... filled ashtray in a room but if you half smoke one cigarette and put it in your pocket to throw away later you can smell that thing 4 miles away.

Ever started wild fires? I think I unwittingly did. My husband and I drove across the country, 70 west, all the way to Las Vegas, Nevada. I threw all my butts out the window. I remember seeing on the news in Las Vegas about some wild fires and it so happen to be where we passed through, from Colorado on to Nevada.

On the drive back I noticed the opposite side of 70 scorched along side the road, I didn't remember seeing that a couple days ago on the way there. I asked my husband why is it burnt alongside the road, he told me it was from my cigarette butts! I started putting them out in a soda can after that. Then when I got home and saw the news about more raging fires in Colorado, I felt like I could have been partially to blame. I never did that again.

Burned the console of my parent' brand spanking new car the first time I was allowed to drive it (yeow) and then proceeded to burn a hole in its carpet when I was allowed to drive it again (which was a long time). Cut a piece of carpet from under the seat and super-glued it over the burn mark so they were none the wiser. (stupid teenager). taped a cig when I ripped it, if I lit the wrong end I would cut that part off and smoke it anyway (yuck, never tasted the same) but don't think I ever took one from the street or stole one (bummed, yes).
