Not sure why I opened this thread because I knew it was going to get me started in a bad mood.

Do you have a link to the news feed? If so, why only post the video? Where is the 411 on what he was using?

I just don't like the original post at all. Big spoon, big pot, post a vid and stir like crazy. Grr.

Would be nice if this stuff didn't get posted unless there are details about the event. I posted about a battery vent, but I at least got some details on it. No sparks like that either, just got hot.

News story about it.

Exploding e-cigarette engulfs man in flames in horrifying CCTV footage (VIDEO)

Loose coins?

Toulouse. Brûlé par "l'explosion" d'une batterie d'e-cigarette dans sa poche

(You can translate it, but here is a little bit)

A spare battery in your pocket

The incident occurred Friday evening on the sidewalk outside. It shows Amine Britel, distraught, trying to extinguish the flames. Before, tells the newspaper to get out of his pocket the spare battery of his electronic cigarette.

My headlight on my bicycle uses 18650 batteries also. I have about 10 of these silicon 18650 sleeves, and I keep extra batteries for the headlight and vape. They get loosely tossed into the backpack with keys, bike tools and water. Works great and I've never had a problem that way.

I still wouldn't toss the batteries in a bag like that. It's asking for trouble. Fully possible that the battery will come loose some way, get scratched by keys, or get damaged in some other way.

It's a tight fit actually, nothing is getting them out of there. The ends on the ones I use are pretty thick silicon, 4mm.

One thing I am considering is removing the battery from the vape and putting that in a sleeve also. I never use the vape when riding, but I always bring it along. I've had the battery get dislodged from the vape before and heat up, but not while riding... (Dog did it)

Wow didn't want to stir up any rage or disagreements but here is the original news story I read
http://www.visir.is/sjadu-thegar-rafretta-springur-i-vasa-manns/article/2016161109606

I was just curious to know how that could happen

Just a spinet translated. "It is not known what caused the explosion but Brite keeps the battery has been in contact with the coin in his pocket that caused the short circuit.

He intends to sue the manufacturer of the battery."

The issue I have is simple. A video gets posted with zero information about the cause of the explosion. These videos terrify people and keep smokers away from vaping becaus they are more afraid of burning their bodies than a slow death from smoking related issues. Which in a way is sensible. I certainly don't want to blow myself up or burn myself.

It also adds ammo to the people that are trying to keep us from vaping.

The article, translated, seems to state that loose change making contact with a battery caused the fire. That info is pertinent to the original post. Should have been in the OP.
