Recently started using a ProTank 2, and also picked up a couple Evods. Have played a bit with rebuilding, and starting to look at some microcoils.

I built a coil recently that came out to 1.8 ohms. Vapes good, but after a few hits the tank / battery starts getting very warm and thats concerning me.

I am currently running on some standard Ego batteries (3.7v). What are you using / what type of battery do you recommend for lower ohm coils / microcoil rebuilds (I know thats a very subjective question).

Thanks.

Battery Basics for Mods: IMR or Protected? By: Baditude

Li Ion battery, power caluclation 4.2vx4.2vdc / 1.8Ω = 9.8 watts that is a wee bit high

Most people recommend running 2.0Ω-2.2Ω on unregulated straight battery power rigs

Also your vaping technique goes a long way too, puff puff puffing on it vs slow long continuous drag keeps from drying out the wick and getting dry hits

Good chart to fall back to....but your tastebuds will ultimately tell you where the best vape voltage is

Sorry, which way do you mean this... that primer puffs and puffing in general produces less heat than the slow long straight-to-lung draws?

Your stated ohms and voltage comes in just over 7 1/2 watts. Chain vaping - with any technique - will heat the base and transfer to the top of the battery. As long as it's just warm, no problem. If you like the flavor, TH and "feel" of your vape, no particular reason I can see to change. Bottom coils like your Evod are pretty forgiving on wicking issues. Of more concern would be getting carried away chain vaping, as that might burn the rubber grommet on the head, leading to bad taste. Only way to fix that problem is a new head.

Primer puffs really shouldn't be necessary if you let a new one sit a while after filling. Long slow draws are usually recommended for best flavor/TH/vapor production. Short sharp puffs should be avoided, as they increase the possibility of sucking juice up the tube...

If you're already playing around with rebuilding I think it's time you graduated from those ego batteries to something a little more substantial. If you want to stick with fixed voltage you might look into a mechanical mod so you can take advantage of some larger capacity batteries like 18650s. I have very little experience with these, but there's a ton of them out there at many budget levels and a lot of people love them so there's that.

If you're stuck on the form-factor but want to get your feet wet with VV/VW, the iTaste VV is a great little device that retains the approximate size of the ego while adding variable voltage/wattage as well as passthrough capability (you can puff on it while you're charging!).

If you don't care about the size and you also want more battery power and VV/VW capability, you might venture into the larger regulated mods like the SVD/Vamo/eVic, etc.

I keep an SVD as my go-to device with an iTaste VV as a backup or for something a little more discreet (in practice I rarely use it anymore, but it's there for me just in case).

I'm clearly a fan of Innokin, but there are a ton of great brands out there.
