Many MOD's that I own do not have room for electrical tape around a battery to fit in the tubes for the batteries. That much play would allow movement and just a smudge of e-liquid makes them hang up when removing them. Even the ones like the RX200S or the dna 200 you better have the pull ribbon place correctly or the covers to not sit tightly and correctly.

So from what I gather the plastic liners are protecting my batteries from short circuiting but I shouldn't rely on it alone.

I'm getting wraps very soon so hopefully things go well until then.

Yes, the insulated battery tubes will help but you need get the battery rewapped as soon as possible.

Edit: Please.

I think when you get your Wraps and peel off the Old One that things will become Clear.

Because the Entire Outside of a Battery Cells casing is Negative. Not just the End that we see that Isn't covered by the Battery Wrap.

Something else I need to add is:

DON'T remove battery wraps with anything metal and DON'T wear rings on your hands whilst the wrap and insulator is off the battery.

This applies to when you come to rewrap your batterys.

Good thing you warned me I wouldve used a knife to cut it open! :O

I can't think of any alternatives atm, maybe a dental floss pick? lol

I use a wooden toothpick to lift an edge on the bottom of the battery then kind of tear with my hands, or a plastic knife will also work, just nothing metal.

Plastic and wooden objects are perfect because they wont short-out or damage the battery.

all depends in what you are putting it in... a regulated mod with a plastic tray and plastic battery cover ( no metal parts), I would say no issue. BUT if you have it in a metal tubed mech mod then you run the chance ( very hi probability) of it self firing and causing an issue.

Would my mod just turn off if there was a short circuit? I guess I have to order some wraps.
No. The circuitry will protect you from coil shorts but it has no way of protecting against a direct battery short.

Good tip, thanks. never would have thought to take my wedding ring off to do a rewrap.

Thanks for all the replies guys. I believe the inside of my mod is insulated it may be hard to see but it looks and feels like black plastic on the inside of the battery chambers. Is this even a feasible feature on mods? I have a Joyetech Cuboid btw.

That will be of no help at all if the battery shorts against the positive pins (the tear causing the battery's protective ring to move, and the mod's contact then touching both the battery positive and the casing at the same time.

had a friend who was working on his car trying to remove the starter, his wedding ring contacted the + battery cable connect point on the starter and the frame.... it welded its self to the post and frame and nearly burnt his finger from his hand...
the ring turned glowing yellow due to the heat...

always disconnect the battery first .....

Simply a great thread with a lot of great info for the OP! The only thing I can think of to add is a repost of an old collection of videos in which @Mooch actually discusses some of the things he has seen in full thermal runaway! The video is quite long and to be honest I havent even had the time to watch the whole thing yet but so far its been well worth the watch!

Ceramic tipped tweezers use might have for shaping and strumming your coil while building can also be handy to grab an edge.

Another very good member of ECF called @sonicbomb deserves full credit for that tip.

I'd have never thought of it myself, I feel its a good tip to pass on though.

Edit: was going to post link to thread but saw its already done. Thanks @zoiDman (it would have taken me ages to find that thread, lol).

Ah, thankyou, logic sometimes passes me by with these things. It'll save me from stabbing my thumbs with toothpics everytime they slip from under the battery wrappers.
