I expect you will be able to tell by the battery life. Some of mine seem to not be holding a charge as long as they used to, and I think it's time to start replacing them.
I think as long as they aren't bulging or leaking, and as long as the outer wrapper is intact, that they should be safe as long as you don't discharge them below safe levels.

Me too. I really should get rid of the computer from 1998 though, I don't think there is very much state of the art equipment left in there to reuse!
I see carriesal kinda beat me to it, but was also gonna suggest the Artistic coil gizmo. I've not used the twisty jigs, but most say a very very light touch and thin wire is more difficult to use. I really want to try Super X's tensioned coils. Makes total sense about making a better coil to begin with than trying to fix one later with heating and squeezing. this is why I will be getting the artistic jig. The swamp video with the fishin reel was Russ bein a goofball. He's good at that but a super super nice guy, and does some really great vids. He does get very long winded though.
2/23 entry 3
I lose hours of my life each day on youtube and Russ was the last thing I needed to discover! But I really love his vids! They are a bit long but I do like the way he does things - very enjoyable and helpful to me. I learn better when someone really goes through in such a thorough manner and doesn't skip over anything. The tension coils do make a lot of sense so we'll see if I actually do it or just forget about it. No matter what, I am learning tons. Surprised I never came across him before!

I have every laptop and desktop from the late 90's and on all using up one big closet which is space I desperately need. I would get rid of them but I am kind of worried about strangers having access to my old hard drives with all my personal information. I researched how to take out the hard drives, but I got lazy and didn't follow through, but I still plan on it. I am not a hoarder, but don't tell that to some of my closets! Now my juice, mod and atty collection doesn't count as hoarding, because I use it all even if it is spiraling out of control!
There are a few that I watch. Some get on my nerves, but I like to really see how something looks/works. I'm a very visual person, so I learn much better from a video than trying to read something.
Oh no! He was so cute! They are all so adorable! I love the bag on the headwe had 4 dogs when Oliver passed away in September, the little one we found last year just turned 2 this month, she is a small deer chihuahua (Oliver was a black and white chihuahua) It seemed he was grooming her for the inevitable. he would always try to be where i was. since he has been gone the little one is stepping into his shoes and is doing many of the things he did. for the first week or so after he died I could tell she was looking for him, the other 2 dogs didnt really seem to care.
anyway..............

Okay, so I've been wondering about my batteries (18650) and how long I should keep them. When do you consider them dead, or at least not safe to use anymore?
I've had a few since summer and they still seem to work fine. I know from seeing my mvp start to decline and not keep a charge as long that I will see that happen with my individual batteries too. Is there a rule of thumb for these things?
