The two popular things that many mods will "kick you out of TC mode" are:
"The curve" is what provides YiHi chips the 'dry coil protection' on the one end and what 'kicks you out of TC mode' on the other end. (YiHi chips won't do this)
If the coil heats up to quickly IE acts like there is no juice+wick acting like a heat sink the high end YiHi chips will cut power and give a 'dry coil' error message.
Similar but on the other end of the spectrum, if power is applied to the coil and the resistance is not changing or changing as much as the mod "thinks" (built in curve or logic of some sort) then the mod might assume that non-TC wire is in use and switch automatically to Wattage mode. One of the primary reasons for this is poor connections causing the mod to read the cold resistance of the coil higher than what it really is.
IMHO: building very low resistance coils with very low TCR wire compounds the possible effects of errors in resistance.
Personally, I vape on the other end of the spectrum with higher than TCR=300 wire and resistances greater than 0.3 ohms. YMMV.
- to high of a cold or hot resistance
- wire resistance does not change according to known curve
